I loved Sam on TMBS so much, this was great. I actually remember that clip very well, I was a sophomore in high school, attending an evangelical private school where we basically worshiped the Bush administration (my graduating class was like 13 people). When the bombing started, it was announced over our PA system, and we were shuffled into the chapel to watch the bombing (our school was connected to a not-quite-mega-but-huge church). Sitting in the chapel, in “the house of god”, we watched the explosions 10,000 miles away on a large projector screen, and students and faculty both cheered, and “praised god”. We were led in prayer by the pastor, praying for safety for our troops, and that Bush would be led by god, and “continue” to follow him. Looking back, it feels like I was a part of a cult, and I’m ashamed to say that I was very pro-war, though my 15 year old mind had been brainwashed, and believed that we were saving the people. It was the same when 9/11 happened btw; we were shuffled into chapel to pray for Bush and the country, even though we didn’t know what was happening. The school administration was convinced that it was an attack bc we were “a Christian nation”, and even fears air planes being wrecked into our church/school, I fucking kid you not (though in their defense, the Somerset plane crash of Flight 93 was about an hour from where we were, but sill, it’s insane). Looking back, that experience was the first shadow of being a future leftist, or at least when I started to think for myself. I thought it was so absurd to think that it all happening bc we were Christians, and didn’t believe it was bc “we had freedom and they were jealous”, or that this was a legitimate good vs evil, which we were fed like propaganda every day. I actually cried hysterically watching the planes fly into the buildings when we watched it on replay in the chapel, and ppl laid their hands to pray for my protection and courage, even blabbed in tongues.. lol.. I was like, I’m not afraid, I’m disgusted at all the needless suffering and pain that this caused, and how horrible the violence is; they looked at me like, “you don’t approve of violence”, or something like that.. anyway, I digress. TMBS giving me flashbacks to the Bush years, and my crazy fundamentalist Christian upbringing... 🏴🚩🏴🚩✊🏾✊🏼✊🏽✊🏿

Nikola Demitri perhaps this is bit insensitive or even borders on the “outing”, but have you by chance made your way out of the religious mindset to something less hysterical, like let’s say, atheism?

@@bradyperl662 sad you want to shift this poor soul from one cult to another. Nikola has been through enough. Atheism is such a downer.

Sam and Janeane were two of the only people we could turn to back then, aside from some blogs. Assuming you lived in an area that could tune in Air America or else (like me) purchased satellite radio to get it. This was before widespread high speed internet. There was almost nowhere for the left to turn to in 2003-2005.

My house was Military anti war. My grandfather hated war after serving in the army. We believed that war was the last option.

Damn, what a duo. It’s so unfair that we won’t see more of this again.

Wait, the Supreme Court actually invoked the 14th amendment to justify giving Bush the presidency? Holy shit

The best democracy money can buy, from Greg Palast is a great read about the recount and all, at least it gave me great info.

I was born in December 1993. This was a huge crossroads in my life. 9/11 shocked our country into acting irrational towards others in a new way.

Weird how 2003 very clearly delineated right from wrong.
