Michael has the most amazing male voice I've ever heard. Michael defies description. Listen to him singing ala Cesare Siepi!!! It is utterly amazing how Michael can sound just like Siepi and then turn around and toss off the tenor high C's and D's.

I still can't believe how he could sing Tenor roles as in Bellini's Bianca e Fernando, touchin' high F, D an so on, then using his voice as a perfect Baritone touching low notes more than other Baritones singin' 'em so reachful... What has he got in his throat???? Spectacular...

In 100 years people are going to talk about him the way we talk about legendary greats from the earlier part of the 1900s. He is just a phenomenally gifted and versatile singer. Every time I see a new video pop up of his I immediately watch it. Bravo!!

@@texican1048 Essentially, some things he does in this performance are not written like that. It's actual showing off. He sometimes goes one octave above or below what's actually written, which demonstrate a huge effective vocal range ("effective" meaning he not only can produce the notes, but he can produce them with agility and projection above an orchestra during an actual performance), he does different voices, and goes into multiple vocal registers. The written piece is extremely difficult, steep, mountainous, yet somehow, I can't believe I'm saying that, still much simpler than what he does. And then yes, on top of that he acts. This performance is legendary. Source : Am currently deciphering it. I've got the range, except for his high, unwritten, contra-F (I stop at contra-E), but not the agility, and the projection will be a work in progress for years to come. I did not expect him to do all this extra stuff.

Il est incroyable de virtuosité vocale . J'ai la chance de l'entendre quasi tous les ans depuis qu'il collabore avec l'Opera national du Rhin . L'année dernière je l'ai entendu entre autres sur cet air du Barbier de Séville . Et il y a quelques jours, en Don José dans Carmen en version concert. Il a des possibilités tellement étendues , stupéfiant .

Great performance, really fun. Nice touches all over (the octave jumps, the added "lalala" etc). I was blown away when, after anticipating the timing on "Pronto prontissimo" at 4:17 (he had to say "della citta" 6 times instead of the written 5 times), he was still able to take the piece home!

I will give this as an example to all the boring baritones that make audition with this phantastic aria that you can easily tell a story if you are smart enough, like Michael, and do not think that some high notes are just enough for making impression. I dont think you really understand. Tenors can easily hit the notes of this aria but very, very few tenors can do it justice because it requires much more than high notes.

So much fun and enjoyment here. At times he sounds like Canio, Don Curzio and Figaro. A spinto, tenor, a character tenor and then a lyric baritone. A lot of colors and approaches here make for a flexible and warmly unusual yet very attractive performance. Bravo!
