.La Piscine's One at a Time has had a good run in various guises including a small group session on Ifcopod. This is another song from the sound track attractively sung by Sally Stevens. Although the lyrics have a questioning aspect the melody is relaxed and sunshiney in a late 1960s West Coast style. Oct 2014 Am I missing something but how is this version in Ifcopod streaking ahead of other Legrand songs? ~comparatively speaking of course.The other observation goes along the lines of What on Earth is John Coltrane nestling in the Ifcopod environs or is U tube just throwing darts at dartboards so to speak . While you're at it mister google how about some juicy selections from John Coltrane Ascension. album to scare the natives. In fact in the 1960s Ascension was the big brother of A Love supreme . A Love supreme was for jazz juniors whereas Ascension was something else still takes its place even in these post musical Blitz times among the very Avant of the Garde. Though there are detractors let it be asserted Coltrane's outfit was capable of more spiritual intensity than any other band and in the 1960s decade of the Beatles great small and big bands were still knocking about. Factor in more heavy hitters to fill out bigger aggregation give them carte blanche to cut loose risking indiscipline and sonic chaos and wait expectantly. The Ascension Coltrane band was such an aggregation The big band version almost proved too much for Ifcopod at the time even if in spirit it got unqualified thumbs up.
The album proved too ferocious for some . Some? It signalled the end of progressing rectilinear jazz forms a cul de sac ? at least a dissolution or an overexercised Ifcopod term catastasis ~of a music ratcheted to a sundering climax. about to fragment into constituent parts. A postscript to the above. As I bash this into a typewriter and hope for the best some would say what the hell has this spiel to do with Ask yourself why? or indeed any Legrand music ? Rest assured ~ a lot . In fact if you don't get the connection you've got the wrong connection. Ifcopod channel does not all but a lot of jazz.
~~ Permit one other observation Suddenly in its/ his /their wisdom Google ~ presumably for my delectation has suggested Cynthia Lennon and Yoko Ono @ 60 minutes video . Let it be said promptly and assertively despite her association with the great John that I am not now and never have been a fan of Yoko Ono. At its kindest I simply dont get the Yoko schtick So what's the gimmick ? Just before I toddle off to another Ifcopod video to see how things are ~this poser Why is this Legrand video doing so well and me breaking my back trying to encourage enthusiasm for his Cole Porter album ~ to thundering silence . I don't know sometimes I think I should join the opposition and crank out a few bars of Like a Rolling Stone. Yet it's still irking s why this video is pulling in the punters. Any Ideas?
