I love Krispy Kreme, but I will never say their filled donuts are the best. Their real draw is the Basic Glazed when they are Hot and Fresh. Especially at midnight when you are craving a donut.
That makes all the difference. Hot vs. cold and old. When I was 12ish we sold some Krispy Cremes for a CubScout camping trip and we delivered them right after coming out of the bakery. Ooohhh man! I made myself sick eating those things!
Might be difficult to get a grasp on which one’s better when you eat two completely different products like a jelly donut versus a doughnut like what’s going on here guys
A berliner is a very thick PANCAKE that is filled with a jelly and coated in sugar. It is defined as a Berliner Pancake or short Berliner, because traditionally a deep pan is used to fry them.
I won't go to insult level, so i'll paste the wikipedia article The jelly-filled krapfen were called Berliners in the 1800s, based on the legend of a patriotic baker from Berlin who became a regimental baker after he was deemed unfit for combat by the Prussian Army. When the army was in the field, he "baked" the doughnuts the old-fashioned way, by frying them over an open fire. And we germans still call them Berliners, Krapfen or if you are in Berlin, pancakes. But doughnut is not very correct. It's like if germans called a sloppy joe a shredded squash burger because both use bread and ground beef.
I am not a big fan of filled donuts no matter when they are from. I prefer tried and true glazed donuts. My family donut shop is locally owned and adds in potato flour to the recipe. I tell you the moisture and flavor in these donuts are heaven sent. Customers start to line up before they open and it’s not uncommon for them to sell out.
In Italy the filled donuts are called Bomboloni they are good but for someone like me who’s ate them my whole life the rare times I get to eat donuts I prefer them to Bomboloni.
Too bad that there are not more independent bakeries. I think the small mom & pop bakeries are the best. For big chains, I prefer Winchell’s. Krispy Kreme was much better before they got so big. There is a Dunkin Donuts in my old neighborhood that still had the bakery. Theirs were pretty decent if you got them when they came out of the oven.
in Germany, specifically in Berlin, we call them Berliner or ppl also call them Krapfen but I never actually heard anyone german refer to them as doughnuts, you get those with the fruit jam basically anywhere with a bakery for cheap (like at Lidl for 50-60 cents a piece) They are my favourite but at the same time the one filled with plum I hate with a passion 🤣
Love Ollie. he has such a amazing personality regardless of whether it is show or real. everyone needs an ollie in their life based on how he is on camera
You have to compare the same type of doughnuts, though. And I don't care how fancy anything is, there's absolutely nothing better than a *hot* Krispy Kreme glazed eaten right at the shop.
Krispy Kreme donuts are great donuts but in my opinion the best donuts I have tried in California are from specific local moms and pops donut shops and theyre not even very sweet. Just some great deep fried bread.
Meche's Donuts in New Iberia Louisiana is the best donut in the world. No Michelin Stars in Louisiana, because the French are afraid of admitting... They lost to Acadiana gas stations.
I literally spent $60 on 6 contour donuts in Perth western Australia and they were some of the best donuts Iv had they had a tiramisu donut creme brulee donut they were so good
I stopped at Krispy Kreme with my friend so we could each get a donut. The line was super long so at one point an employee walked around handing out donuts to people who were waiting, assuming we were each buying a dozen or something. So we looked at each other and walked out with our free donuts 🍩
I want to repeat for emphasis what @Carbon7549 says above. Krispy Kreme made its name with its unfilled, glazed doughnuts which are at their best warm just out of the oven. I'm not actually a fan of doughnuts filled with anything other than vanilla custard and I can't say I've ever had a filled doughnut from Krisp[y Kreme. I would only go there for those glazed ones.
a regular glazed krispy kreme is fantastic donut. but when they are hot out of the glaze waterfall… literally nothing else like it in the world. i happened to drive by the other day and the hot light was on, bought myself a half dozen donuts and ate 4 hot donuts sitting the parking lot and I felt no no shame.
No jam! But nothing beats sweetened dough fried in hot grease and eating it warm. Sugar for the sweet tooth but the fat is where the true satisfaction value comes from.
Dude, I have never liked Krispy Kreme glazed donuts. They are awful. And I like old-fashioned glazed (aka sour cream donuts) for yeast donuts. I grew up with Lamar's donuts (which dominated for year's as the best in the US) and we have Donut King's chocolate long-johns. This place is a special place that my parents have been taking us to since before we existed...with a line around the building at 5am on Saturday mornings in December in Missouri (snow, wind chills, icy rain). About 15 years ago they moved to a new building with a drive-thru window next to the hospital. The chocolate long-johns are just that great.
How much did you pay for the Michelin star donuts? If there's one thing I absolutely detest is when hipster bakeries overcharge for their products. If I'm to pay 5 quid for a donut I'll expect it to be coated with gold dust instead of icing sugar, or have diamonds in it instead of jam.
Lol i always hate when theres less cake or bread when it comes to desserts because sometimes the icing, topping or filling just isnt as good. Another reason why i hate cream puffs 😂 eggy thin outside and a a crap ton of filling 🤮
