I am now in my 70s, and I still remember as a child of around 12, my father telling me, that there were people in this country, who were so rich & powerful, that they were above the law. They could even commit murder and never be investigated. This is a classic example of that power.

Why can’t they pay the money back to the government or government request it back with interest. Also the lawyers fees should not be tax deductible in this case as the public were misled.
My big fear about this scandal. Is that it is in danger of disappearing. The mainstream media have barely picked up on it. I think dark forces are ensuring this is forgotten about. Crowd fund this to be on mainstream tele before the news.
I'd recommend reading the recent Guardian article as there's actually more to this story. Barrowman tried it was a second company called something like LFI Diagnostics to provide lateral flow tests. Fortunately he didn't get a contract as they'd probably have been completely useless like his PPE.

I get it that under the circumstances, there was limited time for normal due diligence, but surely the contract would have included the standards required of the products and if not met, then no payment would be made? How could all the risk fall on the government (or rather, taxpayers)?

In the Netherlands we have a chap who tried to get away with a similar operation: Sywert van Lienden reportedly pocketed a profit of €9m for supplying PPE (face masks, which were rejected after a technical inspection). Sywert now enjoys the undivided attention of the Dutch Public Prosecution Service...

There are quite a few Tories and their cronies that should be arrested and jailed in the UK for exactly the same greed/fraud/or whatever you want to call it. They were fast tracking contracts to their party donors, Tory cronies, business friends etc where they all profited from bad PPE, Medical Equipment, Legal & Management Consultants Companies and T&T systems etc which were all a money making scams and often turned out to be useless or not fit for purpose. These greedy scammers filled their pockets, putting public money into private pockets. They were/are Oxbridge and upper-class crooks in expensive suits, all looking to get their snouts in the trough. We need to have a good clear out of our political classes in this country. We need to get rid of this crooked wealthy self-serving over privileged political class regime and bring in real Democracy to this country. PR is needed for a start. Bring in UBI and recoup the lost £billions that was given to these charlatans and snake oil salesmen (and women) for all the useless defective PPE etc that they scammed the public purse for. Then jail them.

The most disgusting thing of the lot is the fact that ways have been found to bypass the FOI Act, so that their corrupt shenanigans can go unscrutinized by anyone. Unfortunately its because these crimes are complicated to find out. You have to follow a large trail of paperwork, most of which is secretive and doesn't get released. In this case, it seems that a leak from HSBC provided the main link. This is what the rich do all the time - hide their wealth from the tax man so they can pay as little as possible back to the society that gives them their riches.
So the Dept of Health rejected all of Mone’s cockamamie PPE supply. So is she giving a refund? In normal transactions if something doesn’t work, the buyer is entitled to a refund.

This has been repeated time and again. My ex Tory MP tried to get on the corrupt gravy train... obviously not well connected enough...he voted for the privatisation of NHS logistics...in 2015, you remember them...they were a specialist group within the NHS...dealing with procurement of medical equipment...why is it no one is talking about that scandal.
This is great but she's not the only one. What about the rest of them? She is an easy target for the Tories to throw under the bus. No political capital to expend.
