The curious thing is that a relatively new member comprehends much more about revelation that many lifelong members. Congratulations, David, for having the faith and humility to receive guidance from the Holy Ghost.

I knew firsthand a daughter (last generation) of a polygamist family. When she went away to college, she felt somewhat out of place because she was from a polygamist family. Her father, wisely, reminded her before she left: "Never be ashamed of your family." They were stalwart members of the church, and served faithfully to the end of their lives. This generation has had no hardship like the pioneers had, and therefore are easily distracted. Letting go of the iron rod in search of whatever satisfies our selfish motives is the single most dangerous thing a person can do.

Apostates don't take breaks and Br Alexander knows this. I'm grateful for Br Alexander's unyielding and tireless pursuit of denouncing deception. We don't have enough Br Alexander's in The Church.

Brigham Young was the right man at the right time! The Church wouldn't be what it is today without his powerful historical contribution. I wouldn't be here today without plural marriage!!!❤😊

The major reason so many of our returned missionaries and Millennials are leaving is because of the NUMEROUS online LDS history baskets! Evidently you’re “beyond” being hurt by it but many are NOT! Thanks David. I am a descendant of a plural marriage family. Years ago, I felt inspired that I needed to study patriarchal marriage until I understood it and gained a testimony of it. I didn't understand the why then but I think I know the why now. I never thought then I would be defending the Church with this topic like I am now.

The fruit of the early saints who practiced polygamy is way, way different than modern polygamists. There is no fruit in those communities. They're crazy. I currently have a missionary friend serving in an area of Utah with those polygamists. He sees all kinds of really bad stuff there.

Both myself and my husband are descendants of faithful polygamist families. Allred is one of the most prolific names in the church. I will always be grateful for the courage and faith of these wonderful, stalwart saints. My husband was absolutely solid in the faith to his death, as I will be; true to our heritage.

My great grandfather was Parley P. Pratt, and my great, great grand father was Nathan tanner Sr. who were both polygamous, and my older brother, 92 years old, has 50 great grand kids. Some fruit.

Hooray for Israel! The Navuoo expository newspaper published portions of section 132 during the life of Joseph Smith, and many members of the high Council recorded in their journals that Joseph Smith showed them the revelation of section 132.

One of the most beautiful truths about the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints, is this: This church will eventually become the church: Of the Lamb, gathered by the 144.000. where only the elect and sanctified will be a part of it. Christ Is The King of the kings, and we are those kings and queens. Sadly many will be leaving the church, just like Paul prophesied. The key is the “temple” that’s the only place where we will be getting this process started.

The “Saints” book series has brought a lot of clarity & understanding for me. Before it I imagined that plural marriage was mostly because of a disparity of women to men. After I now understand that it was a trial of faith for both engaging in the practice & for stopping the practice. The church has admitted that some “priesthood “ holders abused the practice for selfish reasons. From what I’ve come to understand it was mostly a detrimental lifestyle for both men & women. I “think “ that multiple wives under one roof was a rarity. In most cases there would be two or more poor households. All concerned would live in meager situations but stayed true to it. The potential meager means would’ve been well known & still saints chose to enter into it.

Many of us would not be here now without plural marriage. I am grateful for my heritage. I also dont think that people who talk negative about plural marriage know the truth about it. I also am concerned about their salvation. To speak ill of the Lord's anointed Prophet today is also a road that leads to apostasy. I find it interesting how she claims you should address her personally. She is speaking ill of a prophet whi is not here to defend himself. I feel she is living a double standard in this respect.

Dear Brother Alexander, you rebutted Sister Stone very well. "By their fruits ye shall know them" is a perfect test. I am grateful beyond words for the revelations that our Father has poured on you, on the Sister who wrote you, upon the Saints who correctly and in purity practiced the holy order of plural marriage, and upon many others who humbly have sought light and understanding on the subject. As far as fruits go, we can also check the fruits of our own doings. If we are bitter and accusing, feeling superior over our particular point of view, and coming to hate someone over what we believe, those are bad fruit. The fruits of the Spirit are peace, love, humility, sustaining of the Lord's servants. Lucifer accused his Heavenly Father of leading his children down an incorrect path. That is why he thought he should be worthy to take away his Father's glory and keep it for himself, because he, Lucifer, was going to do the right thing and believed the right thing. As he didn't get his way, he determined to destroy everyone who followed the Father and the Son. Real loving. He was just full of charity, wasn't he. I have seen plenty of Saints fall because they fixated on one subject that they thought they knew better than the brethren. It's completely foolhardy to think one is more expert in knowledge than the servants of God. The Lord says He will justify His servants if they make a mistake. He will not justify those who turn on his servants. I know from reading Brother Brigham's teachings and learning of the success of the church under his prophetic guidance that he is a beloved servant of his Savior. He made a few small errors, which errors fell by the wayside. Plural marriage was not instituted by him. The fruits of plural marriage, as you so ably expounded, are there for us to see. Imagining to oneself a certain kind of life under plural marriage and caused by the practice does not make it so. When God blesses it, it prospers. When He doesn't bless it, it causes heartache and apostasy. He can do both and never had indicated that it is utterly and always against His commandments. To believe so turns many of His own declarations on their heads.

Earnestly contend, brother David. Thank you for the example of contending plainly and patiently. Thank you for defending the faith that is so precious.

Thanks for addressing this. 🙂 hopefully people will have eyes to see the adversary in their friends and family who are being hurt by him. And Hopefully stop the ravages of the adversary on their souls before he takes them fully. Truly seeing the underlying adversary is key in addressing the wolf in sheep’s clothing of these days. He is cunning.

I actually didn't think about the sheep, that it would be gutted and skinned in order for the wolf to wear it's skin, the "sheeps clothing". Calling it "clothing" had previously made me think of the wool only, not any actual death of a sheep. The whole skin idea really makes the dangerous nature of "wolf in sheep's clothing" more stark. Satan (wolf) is able to use that "skin" to deceive others. At least with this kind of spiritual death there is a recovery available through repentance. That repentance will not undo all the spiritual damage done to others, but it will at least stop additional damage.

The basic problem is presentism. Because we live in a time of ease and plenty (for now), we can forget that historical people lived in other circumstances. As an LDS youth, I chose to ponder how I might feel about polygamy hypothetically in my life. I realized that, if circumstances existed where one my beloved best girlfriends (fraternal, or course) needed a husband but couldn’t have one, I had the kind of divine love for her that I would be willing to share with her the great gift of my husband. And speaking of different circumstances, my original family was very small (my mother and one brother and essentially no other extended family). So now, as an adult with a husband and children, I can also imagine the fraternity a “sister-wife” could provide me. I recognize that there are cons to anything (including monogamy) but my theoretical ponderings remind me that there are also pros. Follow the prophet!

"...and they were in the attitude of mocking and pointing their fingers towards those who had come at and were partaking of the fruit..." I respect your testimony brother David. My Father was a Pentecostal Preacher and I converted to the church in 1994. Why not just invite Michelle Stone to a prayerfully guided conversation. In my experience those who have been converted to the church have a different conversion experience than members who have been raised LDS all of their lives. I never trust anyone who pushes donations from followers to spread their agenda. I believe that comes from watching my father preaching in churches and receiving tithing from the congregation for preaching in their church. Unfortunately this has become a business for many who are using the Gospel of Jesus Christ to increase their wealth, and moving away from the importance of the restoration. Leaving people in spiritual limbo. I went through a faith crisis. What helped me return was visiting the sacred grove and praying to my Father in Heaven there sitting on a bench. It was the second time the Spirit has guided me to this very sacred place and it has changed me and my life. I pray that those members struggling with a faith crisis or being led astray can rely upon the Spirit of truth and cling to The Gospel of Jesus Christ. I pray they remember he is the Chief Corner Stone of the Gospel it is in him we should build our foundation and not in the opinion of Man.

My ancestor, Emma Smith, who was named after the Prophet Joseph Smith's wife, Emma, and who was the daughter of Samuel Smith and Martisha Smoot, was sealed for Eternity to Wilford Woodruff by President Brigham Young in the Old Endowment House in Salt Lake City on March 13, 1853. On that same evening, another sister was sealed to Brother Woodruff. Wilford and my ancestor had 8 children. One of them was Abraham Owen Woodruff, who was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Martisha Smoot's brother was Abraham Owen Smoot, mayor of Provo, founder of Brigham Young Academy, and father of Reed Smoot, Conservative Republican Senator in the U.S. Congress, and a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

But getting into an extended, ongoing fight with her gives her too much attention and credit. The apostles aren't giving her any direct attention. Why should we?

She forgets too many things 1. Abraham and Jacob were polygamous. God's condemned polygamy in the BOf M only because the 2 people mentioned as Solomon married multiple women outside of the House of Israel who brought in their Idols. David committed adultery and murder so he could marry a certain woman. 3. Many of the polygamous marriages were not normal marriages but a way to provide for widows. 4. In a rural farming community, women needed a man. 5. They even condem our current prophet who remarried after his first wife! He was advised to remarry. As a prophet he needed a helpmate. 6. Even today, there are so many women who are single . Some have never married, are divorce d or widowed who would consider a polygamous marriage to a worthy man. Yes I am a product of polygamy and I am okay with it.

Thank you Brother David. I watched Michelle Stone on Ward Radio and I was flabbergasted at her spouting her “teachings”. I was angry with Ward Radio for giving her a platform when there show appeals to so many Millennials and Gen Z. She will lead many out of the church because she is listening to false spirits. I hope she is not a Korihor as in The Book of Mormon, but there is a part of me that believes she knows what she is doing. I like Cardon Ellis but he reminds me sometimes of the saying President Hinckley coined “ stand for something or you will fall for anything” just because someone is popular does not mean you need to give them a platform to spew their garbage. Buckle up everybody it’s getting dark out there!

David Thank you once again for being willing to defend truth of the restored gospel! I was especially grateful for you quoting the words of Joseph Smith that was given to us in “The Teachings of the Prophets - From the Life of Joseph Smith, Chapter 27”. I had never forgotten his message that was given to protect us from the wiles of Satan coming from other members of the Church, but I did not know where to find that quote. In the very next paragraph in the same manual is a quote from He er C Kimball. When I was converted to the gospel, after my sincere effort to prove the Church wrong and to help destroy it, I knew without even a shadow of doubt that Gods really had restored his true church on the earth again. Even thought I did not doubt that plural marriage at that time, as well as other times mentioned in the Bible, I sought my Father In Heaven to help me to understand it, and he gave it to me in the form of a dream. Any concerns were immediately removed and my understanding of it is as you say, Glorious. How I love that you are willing to give your life defending the truth. Thank you for giving us a far greater understanding, that it is not the member who is the wolf, but rather gutted members wearing their sheep’s clothing, pretending to be faithful members of the Church. They surely have no idea that they are cloaking Satan’s real identity as they are doing his bidding of falsely accusing the brethren as they are blindly following him straight to apostasy and hell. You know.....God commanded Abraham to sacrifice his only son, Issac. Why would God give that commandment to sacrifice his only son of Sarah? Can you imagine the agony Abraham went through? God is asking Abraham and Sarah to end their posterity....How outrageous is this sacrifice if one looks at this command from a man's point of view. However in Proverbs 3:5-7 writes, "5 ¶ Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 ¶ Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil." Abraham followed God's command until an angel of God stopped him. Basically, God was showing Abraham how painful it will be when God the Father sends his only begotten son, Jesus Christ, to be crucified on earth. The command may have seems very strange at first, but there is a serious reason for it. God gave the command to Joseph Smith, Jr. to marry more than one woman. Can you imagine the agony and anguish Joseph Smith, Jr. was going through. For three years he struggled with this command of God. How was he going to explain this to his wife, Emma? A lot of people are going to struggle with the issue of polygamy, but they need to understand that God the father gave this command. Isaiah 55:8-9 writes, "8 ¶ For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." MICHELLE STONE: your thoughts are not God's thoughts; you are leaning too much on own understanding. In Matt. 19:26 writes, "26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible." Yes Michelle, 'all things are possible' including polygamy. If Jesus can raise Lazarus from the dead (John 11), God can command plural marriages.

There's a great book by an LDS author that shows that there is perfect harmony between the prophetic statements concerning the garden of Eden being in Missouri and the Old Testament account concerning the garden of Eden. It's called Canaan, Babylon, and Egypt A Comparative Theological Analysis on Creation sold by Eborn Books.

How did she get a Temple recommend. 4. Do you sustain the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the prophet, seer, and revelator and as the only person on the earth authorized to exercise all priesthood keys? Do you sustain the members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as prophets, seers, and revelators? Do you sustain the other General Authorities and local leaders of the Church?

Your perspective on all this, as someone coming into the church, is most helpful to help those being duped by Michelle Stone. Her doctrines are very seductive to many.

I personally appreciate Michelle Stone’s manner and her candor. As every person on this planet is aware, there is much about the Mormon narrative and experience that is very difficult to defend. Largely, it is silly for Mormon leadership (and Mr. Alexander) to defend these specific things. Brother Joseph stated “It is an eternal principle, that has existed with God from all eternity: That man who rises up to condemn others, finding fault with the Church, saying that they are out of the way, while he himself is righteous, then know assuredly, that that man is in the high road to apostasy: and if he does not repent, will apostatize, as God lives”. Isn’t it a somewhat spectacular fact that the entirety of this specific observation most obviously applies explicitly to Brother Joseph himself. In his own 'rising up', in his own condemnation (of all / every single contemporary Christian 'sect'), in his own 'finding fault' (again; see prior), in his own traverse of 'the high road', in his own demonstrated unrepentance, in his own self-importance. The 1844 publication of Doctrines and Covenants (section 135) also presents this view, without apology; “Joseph Smith, the Prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it.” Further, “If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation. There is no salvation outside The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”; see Mormon Doctrine; 1958 pg. 603 McConkie. In the Mormon publication, History of the Church, vol. 6, P. 411 you will find the following statement, “What a thing it is for a man to be accused of committing adultery, and having seven wives, when I can only find one.” -- Joseph Smith Jr. -- May 26, 1844. Mormon leaders have acknowledged for the first time (Nov 10, 2014) that the church's founder and prophet, Joseph Smith, who is portrayed in church materials as a loyal partner to his loving spouse Emma, took as many as 40 wives, some already married and two only 14 years old (Helen Mar Kimball and Nancy M. Winchester). (see:www.nytimes.com/2014/11/11/us/its-official-mormon-founder-had-up-to-40-wives.html). Despite his blatantly and deliberately misleading (dishonest) protest, in reality, by May 26, 1844 Joseph Smith had married 37 women. ***Careful estimates put the number between 30 and 40. See Hales, “Joseph Smith’s Polygamy”, 2:272-73. (see Footnote # 24-LDS Gospel Topic Essay, Plural Marriage in Kirtland and Nauvoo). If polygamy was lawful (or even necessary) for ‘a time’, then there was no reason for Joseph to attempt to conceal his actions. In a speech made at the Harvard Divinity School in March 2001 by Robert L. Millet, former dean of religious education at Brigham Young University, Mr. Millet said, "At the heart of the doctrine restored through Joseph Smith is the doctrine of the Christ." He actually quoted Joseph Smith next, “The fundamental principles of our religion,” he (Joseph Smith) observed, “are the testimony of the *Apostles and Prophets (the 'Bible''; see Ephesians 2:20), concerning Jesus Christ, that he died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended into heaven; and all other things (D&C, Book of Abraham, Book of Mormon, POGP…) which pertain to our religion are only appendages to it.” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg.121). Again, this record, as noted by Joseph Smith above, permeates (the length, width, height and depth of) the bible (“the Apostles and the Prophets"; see Ephesians 2:20) AND it is "The fundamental principle of our religion (Mormonism)", according to Joseph Smith. It is an extravagant and inordinate waste of time and resources for Mormon leadership to defend those facets of the Mormon narrative and experience that exist, or have existed, outside of this crucial message.

Very sad that Michele stone chooses to see and understand things solely through her own wisdom. Her followers seem to use the same processes. It’s a slippery slope that these detractors are on! They put them selves higher than God when it comes down to it! I was reading comments on the video David Boice of 52 churches in 52 weeks who recently got baptized. One person told him that our stake leaders prophet worship?! The person said they did in their stake conference! I know that NO leader would put another person above Jesus Christ! Do we revere our amazing leaders?! Yes, but we know that they are not the Savior! They point us to the Savior!! I had to stand up and tell that person to be careful what they say because it’s not true! We ONLY worship Jesus Christ! The whole thing about the vaccine choice is in the CHURCH handbook!! In there it states that we are to choose for ourselves about vaccines!! It was never a commandment! Ppl have left the church over it! We chose not to get that shot but I 100% know the church is the church of Jesus Christ! We didn’t lose our temple recommends or be excommunicated because we didn’t get the shot! Ppl just want to be mad over issues that they don’t need to be!! Ppl need to READ the HANDBOOK that’s available to ALL to know about every issue. You’re spot on in defending the church against anyone who twists truths into LIES because in doing so they are putting themselves higher than God!

Maybe they should read that history before they continue trashing her by wearing her name as a trophy. My ancestry is not only from polygamy but also from the Youngs from Tennessee. I have my grandmothers journals and life sketches and they do not indicate any of the ugliness that many say existed. THEY LIVED IT! They didn’t read it and try to guess or put words in the mouths of the dead. I wonder which noble person from the past is next to be trashed or get their name worn as a name tag trophy by the people who have left the prophet to build their own following.

If you believe that the true Church was restored through Joseph Smith and that Joseph was a true prophet then you should also believe that Brigham Young was a righteous second prophet. Why? Because the Lord told Joseph He picked Brigham to be the next prophet and also because Brigham was a trusted friend and one of the only two men who didn't fall away or try to deceive Joseph. Also, if the Lord was unhappy with Brigham, He could have gotten rid of him at any time. Instead, He allowed Brigham to be the man who was the longest-living prophet (30 yrs) in our dispensation! If Brigham was in danger of leading the Church astray, God would not have allowed him to live.

That is an important insight about the sheeps clothing.

Great analysis. I'm surprised she hasn't left the Church yet and can only determine it means she has nefarious motives. There are tares among the wheat and we absolutely need the discernment of the Holy Ghost. Great point about how she is defaming the most faithful and moral people that existed on the Earth and even a Prophet of God and yet gets upset when people "misunderstand" her. Her sheeps clothing is very deceptive.

I mean, we all should have read about Nehor recently as we read through The Book of Mormon in Come, Follow Me. I have never heard of her before, but if she is doing what David has described here, she is sadly, just another run-of-the-mill, modern-day Nehor. (The list is getting so long!) I really like the analogy that the Adversary is actually the wolf and the sheepskin was once a church member that the wolf has devoured and now wears to deceive others. That absolutely rings true. These false teachers usually fall under the category of "The Church doesn't teach MY pet issue the way I want them to!" They're ark-steady-ers. I mean, sadly, all of these modern-day-Nehors who teach things that vulnerable members want to hear, are (ironically) fulfilling prophesy to sift the wheat from the chaff. They sift out themselves (and their followers-as chaff) from the Church, which will not fail. I love David's boldness and willingness to speak out against them. I recommend the Lawrence Corbridge BYU talk from 2019 called "Stand Forever." Every church member should at least watch the Corbridge talk. Brother Corbridge talks about how his assignment in the 70 was to read all the antagonistic things against the Church. He talks about how to not be bothered by any of it. It's wonderful. Also check out the book by Brittany Chapman Nash called "Let's Talk About Polygamy" (which is part of a series called "Let's Talk About...".) It's great.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and those of others, brother David. Additionally, we can read of the Lord's approval of brother Brigham Young in 3 revelations recorded in the Doctrine and Covenants, sections 124, 126 and 138. How wonderful that the Savior uses some of His precious time to name, in His scriptures, those who faithfully represent Him during their mortal lives, and who merit His honor and eternal blessings after their missions here are finished!

I have never questioned or been bothered by the history of polygamy in the church. I assumed that there was a reason for it at the time it was put into practice. Time would be better spent on today and the future and making changes there and do what I can do to make it as good as I can for my family, friends and the gospel of Jesus Christ my Savior then continually bringing this subject up. No one can change history it is history! There are a lot of things in history that shouldn't have happened but they did and there are somethings that have happen to make things better. You can't beat a dead horse to death it is already dead. I agree with another post that the church is not going to waste time on this subject and on Michelle Stone until they have too. They have so many other things that require their time. If, Michelle keeps it up she will face discipline and then quess what she will blame the church not her own self. I have watched it for years no accountability for themselves and what they have done.

The House of all Israel is built upon plural marriage. Jacob married Leah and Rachal and had children by both of them as well as their handmaids Bilhah and Zilpah. God never turned away Jacob and even Jesus Christ blessed Abrahm, Issac and Jacob and is the progeny of this plural marriage. God is still blessing the children of Israel. Saul also though he was doing God's work too, until he was shown that he was the wolfs sheep's clothing.

Abraham, Isaac, and Israel received the highest blessings through the highest covenant with God the Father and Jesus Christ available on this earth. They were practising plural marriage and could not have qualified for those highest blessings if they were not following the will of the Father and the Son in their age and time.

As someone said in the comments - they came to understand that the practice of it and then stopping the practice of it at its roots were a trial of faith for the Lord's people. Let me make a list of other issues of church history and recent history that has at its roots been a trial of faith for the Lord's people and a 'sifter' for the Lord (just like the 300 sipping or lapping water at the water's edge in the Old Testament... just like the church bank failing and the losing of the 116 pages and Zion's camp). All tests of faith. The Lord proving His real people. Here is the list... this is not exhaustive: 1. Plural Marriage 2. Priesthood ban and then universal blessings for all 3. First Presidency initiating the policy to gate keep the baptism of minors with LGBT parents, and then rescinding said policy. 4. The August 2021 letter about the con-vaids thing. The letter that gave room for both decisions... but there were people on both sides of the issue that sifted themselves. Note: I nor my family took that poison... and we followed the prophet perfectly. There may be more beguiling trials like this on their way. That's why keeping our eye on the prophet who has told us to worship more in the Lord's Holy House and learn and practice spiritual self reliance (ie: listening to the promptings of the Holy Ghost and acting on it). Russell M Nelson has warned us that we cannot survive spiritually in coming days without the guiding power of the Holy Ghost more in our lives than ever. Please do the spiritual work everyone to have that guidance! The ride I nearly over. The Lord is nearly here. Keep the faith everyone!!

Will apostasize ? It appears she is currently in a state of apostasy. We are all encouraged to have and ask questions about the church, doctrine, etc but when it becomes conviction & condemnation scripture and the prophets you have become apostate. Sonia Johnson who believed strongly that women should hold the priesthood got excommunicated in 79 because she strongly believed that women should hold the priesthood got excommunicated for hindering the worldwide missionary program, damaging internal church social programs, and teaching false doctrine. I’ve also been told that her main offense was not at all her dissenting view but rather because she went full corihore & was actively recruiting followers. I’d go further & say that if she’s married to a member of the high council or stake presidency then he may need to be released since since his wife obviously lied to get her temple recommend. There’s no way he doesn’t know

Without polygamy there would not be a Savior of the world. Heavenly Father did not come to earth to create a mortal body for Jesus Christ with Heavenly Mother. He came to the Virgin Mary. That is polygamy right there.
