One of the most exciting teams ever. Best recruiting class ever. 4 out of 5 signed NBA contracts. Most Hated on ever. (jealousy never dies) Winners on the court. Winners in the game of life. FAB 5 FOREVER
You can NEVER take away the cultural impact these young men had on the game, society, etc.....Howard and the boys gna be putting in work with the #1 recruiting class in the country.......GO BLUE 4 LIFE!
The Fab 5 literally changed the way CBB was viewed. These guys are always going to be remembered as the catalysts of change to a sport that never truly accepted them, but benefited from the popularity of the group.
Facts! I brought the official license Michigan uniform because of them. Let me tell you that uniform was heavy lol. Shorts felt padded how thick the lining was on them. Ill never forget I walked in Wolf Sporting Goods in Rockville Centre NY. They had the uniforms I was on a mission to get one. I walked in the park with it on one day with the Barkleys & black socks. Mannnnn I was lit that day! They literally changed basketball for real! I'm still a UM fan til this day.
At least Jalen made it to the Finals with Indiana. He was portrayed as the next Magic Johnson, a talented 6'7" 6'8" who could handle like a point-guard. And pass. And score. I loved his game.
The fab five were absolutly electric, growing up you could feel their energy through the screen. They made me go pull out my nerf rim & play ball on my bedroom door.Saying aloud to myself I'm Jalen or I'm Chris as I played.LOL!!! No matter what happen w/ the violations, the fab five will always be remembered, they made a mark in history,& that is what you call greatness! No one could ever erase all the memories they gave their fans from those spectacular times.!!! FAB FIVE FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s interesting when I watch the Fab 5 in my later years. Never knew any of them personally yet played against 2 of them. J-Rose (AND Voshon Lenard) played with Southwestern and no words can truly express how good they were in high school. Chris played for a smaller (private) school that we played during the summer time. Miss those days and I miss that Michigan squad.
These guys are cultural icons in my book. I remember there merchandise selling like crazy in every sports store I ever went in to. Hell the dudes had basketball cards and they weren't even pros yet.
@@DontDrinkthatstuff I actually liked them I had to watch them because my brother was such a fan I can't diss them my boyfriend is from Michigan and my he would disown me 😂💀.
the greatest college basketball team ever!! they changed the game, but the most important thing is they stuck together and the coach let them be themselves
I wouldn’t say they’re the best college team but the most exciting college team to watch, they changed the fashion style of the game alone with AI and I would say that they’re the best 5 freshman to play together in college

Coach K said "it wasn't 5 of us it was 12 of us, I'm not sure a team should ever take on the character of a group within the team. I felt that was one of the main reasons it never achieved a National championship" WOW!!!! That's some wise ass INSIGHT right there! Not for nothing, The Fab 5 Was all Freshman when they lost to Duke, who were juniors and seniors. And I will forever represent for them. What Coach K said, can'[t be denied though, He was Spot on with his assessment of the Fab 5!
My favorite team of all-time. Played in 2 championship games and an elite 8 w/o Webber. 4 of the 5 played in the NBA 3 of which had very long good/great careers
I pray that I will still live to the day the Fab Five gets reunited. I have been rooting for them since 1991. I am now 47 years old lol! I pray the university will embrace a forgiving culture. It is about time to honor the lasting impact and the legacy of the Fab Five.
Doesn't really matter if they erased what was accomplished. It's still in the history of college basketball and in the hearts of many fans who appreciated this young core of players. You can only erase something on paper but not from everyone's eye & mind.
if the Fab Five had been 5 white guys from good priveledged white families and they had played at Duke, Kentucky, Kansas etc the NCAA whould have never been as harsh....being black, having a in your face attitude and style and being from the hood was what bothered the high ups at the NCAA
When i was a sophomore in high school, i had shed a couple of tears when they lost to NORTH CAROLINA, THIS TEAM CHANGED THE GAME, THEY REALLY DID - AN ALL BLACK FRESHMAN TEAM BALLIN
I remember that team. What I remember the most was how great they stuck together after the spanking they got from the North Carolina Tar Heel’s embarrassing them for the National Championship! But they will go down as one of the greatest teams to choke in a championship game! Great bunch of guy’s!
My favorite team forever .... the excitement awaiting their next game was always exhilarating...Webber was a vicious dunker and great court awareness...Jalen and his swag...runnin and gunnin..it hurt so bad that NC game...Webber should not have been in possession of the ball anyway...that game was crazy good despite losing to NC...hated losing to Duke more....Go Blue!!!!
I was three when they were doing their thing, they looked like they were having so much fun. I didn't understand what was truly going on at that time, but I knew as a kid that they were good friends.
The Fab 5 may not have won a championship but will always be the most recognizable team in college basketball history because they were trendsetters. All freshmen team, brash, baggy clothes. They were definitely fun to watch. I hope Coach Fisher gets the recognition he deserves and makes the Hall of Fame.
I followed Webber and rose in high school. I saw Webber play a couple times at Detroit Country Day. Long before they signed I was telling my friends that Michigan was building the best freshman class ever. And this was well before massive internet use and the stars rating system. They thought I was crazy. They said Webber would go to North Carolina. I saw every single game the fab 5 played.
@Gyro911 Now hold on Gyro. UNLV will go down as one of the greatest college basketball teams of all time but they didn't have a cultural impact like the Michigan Fab Five. Perhaps the greatest college basketball recruiting class ever. It wasn't just about baggy shorts and black socks. These dudes changed college basketball in one year. They got beat by good teams and showed there youth. But the fact that 5 freshman could lead a major university to the NCAA championship game twice is unheard of.
I was in the U of M student union watching the timeout, and everybody flooded the snowy streets of ann arbor and we started throwing snowballs through windows, it was crazy and we were all drunk and it was a mix of celebration of the team and anger at the gut punch ending. we laughed our asses off and threw snowballs and it was frankly a lot of fun, if a bit destructive. great time overall haha😅
Coach K still hating in that piece... 22 year olds that have played together for 4 years are supposed to beat 18 year olds that have played together for 1 season... but the proof is int he history, aside from the Hill to Laettner pass vs Kentucky, who really remembers that Duke team? EVERYONE remembers the Wolverines tho!
I’m a 61-year-old white boy. The other day I went to the gym and happened to look down at my feet as I got on the treadmill: black-on-black shoes over black quarter-height socks.
The Fab 5 are the GREATEST college EVER to exist! They DESERVE the props, that they created not just the style they created on the basketball court but ALSO the things that they created for our society? I DO NOT care that they never won the big 1, there STILL BETTER than that Duke team - I HATE Duke! Show the Fab 5 the respect they deserve is ALL I can say!
They went to the title game 2 years in a row 1992 and 1993, didn't happen since then until Florida in 2006 and 2007. Then they went to the Elite 8 in 1994 without Webber. Every one of those guys would have probably stayed there until they won a title if it wasn't for Webber trying to forget his mistake and going to the NBA. He was the #1 pick in a weak draft. The Fab Five brought the street ball style to college basketball and teams have been less fundamentally sound since then.
That 1993 draft was not weak. Him leaving had nothing to do with him trying to forget his mistake and everything to do with him being the #1 pick. That draft was far from weak
@NYCRyderman One more thing. As long as fans like us keep mentioning and referencing the Fab 5 and others, they'll stick around. Anytime a school signs a talent freshman class..you can be rest assured that there will be guys like us to reference the past. The only hinderance that may come about is the fact that the Fab 5 won't be mentioned in an official way. Meaning you probably won't get many old Fab5 games on classic and the announcers during March probably won't reference them.
@Gyro911 yea and one tenth of the U.S. gets HBO almost everyone get espn thats the differance. Are you saying that 5 expierienced UNLV players going undefeated in the Mountain What and beating a terrible MSU team then going on a run in the tournament just like virginia commenwealth is doing now is more impresive than 5 freshman in a strong bigten playing with indian, illinois a number one ohio state team and winning 32 games and going to the championship is not is impresive u crazy.
out of all the fab 5 guys, i'm the most impressed with Jalen. he should be an example to these kids coming out of the city who think that they have to live the thug life to survive. he came out of HS as an A hole and a racist A hole at that and used his basketball ability to get him to were he is today. he is a very well respected commentator now and my opinion of him has taken a 180 turn since he was a freshman. good job J, you should be used as an example to young kids from the city
@Gyro911 Yep getting a two hour special on national tv definately means nothing. and UNLV was a expierence team with seniors. The fab five were ALL freshman and went to the championship game their first year. Along their way they beat a 1 illinois sead by 28 points. Oh and what conference is UNLV in the Mountain west? wtf? oh and you can say the mountain west has Bringham Young and San Diego State. but tonight they both lost to teams from big conferences. Why have i not heard about this HBO thing
Michigan didn't beat anybody by 28 in the tournament. Illinois didn't even make the tournament in 92 man. There is a documentary called the Running Rebels about UNLV. Not surprised you haven't heard about it
Dominated by Indiana get real. Check your stats Pal. Record is even, plus largest margin of victory was owned by Michigan in that stretch. They revolutionized college basketball and the NBA as the piece suggested.
As a Duke fan, I am well aware of the Duke NBA curse... I don't even argue against it because it's true. We have currently Carlos Boozer, Luol Deng, Grant Hill, Elton Brand, Corey Maggette, JJ Redick, Dunleavy (an incredibly average player).. everyone else is a scrub as far as I'm concerned (and maybe I forgot someone but I doubt it. But now we have Kyrie Irving, Nolan Smith, Kyle Singler, and Seth Curry who I think will all be at least average NBA players and Smith and Irving could be stars
most exciting game i ever attended was that duke game at home. i think it was fab 5's 5th or 6th game ag defending champs; they lost in OT. webber and hurley traded 3-ptrs late. chrysler never rocked like that.
I remember watching them play against North Carolina and Chris Webber called a timeout. Cuz in the original version that they made Chris Weber declined to be in it.
That's why I kind of hate college sports...these schools and university's be making millions off the sweat of these athletes yet they not allowed to accept money from any outside entities...
@@NeighborWOODTx dude you are saying they don't get pay right? A scholarship of their choosing can be up to 50k or more and they are getting a free ride for 4 years with room and board. So even though they might not get pay in cash the school still provides them with a secure future.
