Peter Green should get the recognition that Clapton, Page, and Beck get. I saw Peter Green's FM several times back in the sixties and they were the quintessential British Blues band. Still think Jeremy Spence, Danny Kirwin need to be recognized for their greatness.

Your a lucky bloke to see them in the 60`s , i would have been 10 in 1967 nov , i took my son 30th may 2010 he was about 15 to see peter green & friends at a converted barn called the Cheese & Grain ,Frome,Somerset england (about 50 mile journey from where i live) (their`s footage of some of the gig on youtube) , when i`d parked the car at the site who should walk past but peter green with 1 of the young musicians , unfortunately i bottled out of asking for his autograph or just to speak with him.

Peter Green and Rory Gallagher,there are others but these two are so often described as "not getting the recognition"; when this is raised with other musicians however the fairly common response is "maybe in the public but not among musicians".

Went to a number of Fleetwood Mac concerts in San Francisco in the 60’s, and was fortunate enough to sit in the front row of most of them. Experienced every talented group under the sun in those halcyon days, and Peter Green will always stand out for the haunting spell he cast on everyone in attendance….that incomparable, soulful voice, along with his genius on the guitar.

Peter Green really was someone and something rather special back in the day. I never bonded with the later incarnation of Fleetwood Mac. The music never spoke to me in the same way and there were too many heavily medicated egos flying around during that period, for my liking. I was always surprised that they chose to continue under the same name. Any legacy was very difficult to discern. A lot of fans, I'm sure, are quite unaware of the original incarnation.

Peter Green was not only a fabulous musician but a great man with a big heart. For the people that we're touched by his humanity and lack of ego were happy to be part of the tribute concert and it does not surprise me that so many of his peers would show up to pay tribute to him as a man and as a musician I've been following early Fleetwood Mac since I was 13 and as Mick Fleetwood says that was 50 years ago, it's been a great ride and I continue to obsess over the music and guitar playing of what I believe to be the greatest white blues guitarist. Respects to all including Mick Fleetwood, Jeremy Spencer and Christine McVie (I am saddened that John McVie a friend and Band member of 55 years did not make the effort to be part of the tribute) for their efforts to show the impact that Peter Green made not only on the music end but in life in general. Peter always and continues to have a major impact on his fans who have never forgotteñ the kind leader of the original Fleetwood Mac. In the mid 60's Fleetwood Mac impacted the music that consumed Britain and consumed an era of american blues opening our eyes to the musicians that created the blues and opening the door for younger talent to add to the story of the blues and showcasing the talents of many musicians that dedicated their playing to continue the history of the blues. Thanks to all those famous and unknown for their crusade at keeping the blues alive.

I went to see Fleetwood Mac play maybe half a dozen times,and they never disappointed... First time would have been at the sundown in mile end,east London, about 1973 I would think.... Didn't realize just how privelaged I was to have seen them at that time of their career... And the following concerts would have been at Wembley and possibly the rainbow 🌈 etc... At the age of 21 I went to America...never having been abroad before,it was life changing.. While in new York I bought a copy of rumours, which I still have... Now my daughter plays the album to my granddaughter on the school run etc.. Music is a positive influence on us all. Congratulations to the band,past and present members alike

And i understand how you stand, thank you very much for the combination of roles that you have played along with all the other players in Fleetwood Mac. Immediately Christine's recent death comes to mind, despite the fact that she had not passed at the time of this video. BTW, my favorite perter green songs: Oh Well, pts 1&2; The Green Manalishi, Albatross, Rattle Snake Shake, Black Magic Woman. i listened to FM Live from the record plant, 1974 this morniing. this version of Christine's song, "Why" is wonderful, along with other great players and i appreciate you including the playing of a lead guitar player who will not be named. I had Fleetwood Macs Complete Blue Horizon Box Set a number of years back. It had their studio pieces , plus the 5th disc had out takes if I remember correctly. The 5th had Peter playing the blues , and I would listen to that more than anything . So impressive. I bought it back then for $19.99 , and now to replace it cost anywhere from $50 used, to over $100 BNIB . I would like to add that that Box Set is why I became a huge fan of Mick Fleetwod as a drummer. What makes some of Fleetwood Mac's so memorable ? Think of it , it's Mick's beats , along with those bass lines. One comes to mind and it's from Tusk . See , you've already thought of it.

And in te background the painting on the cover of Then Play On. Before superstardom, Fleetwood Mac were a respected blues rock outfit. They were also noted for having lead guitar players who went a bit bonkers: Jeremy Spencer and Peter Green. 1969’s Then Play On was the finest album of the Peter Green era. It also has a swell cover, that’s described as follows in the LP’s Wikipedia entry: The painting used for the cover of the album is “Domesticated Mural Painting”, by the English artist Maxwell Armfield.[6] It was featured in the February 1917 edition of The Countryside magazine, which states that the mural was originally designed for the dining room of a London mansion".

Then play on painting behind Mick.
@MrCherryJuice
@MrCherryJuice Год назад
A couple things: - The painting on the wall is the cover of the 'Then Play On' album Mr. Fleetwood mentions. - Though he and John McVie were together with Green in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Mick did not play on 'The Supernatural'. That is on the 'Hard Road' album, which was recorded prior to Fleetwood joining and had Aynsley Dunbar (Jeff Beck, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Journey, Starship, Whitesnake...) drumming. I realise he didn't get specific so as to keep the story line simple, but for those interested in the facts, that is what happened. Mick would use the same type of drumming on early Fleetwood Mac's biggest 'Albatross' as Dunbar did on 'The Supernatural' - tympani mallets on toms. - To put Green in context for those unfamiliar, when Eric Clapton left John Mayall to form Cream, Peter Green took his place in the Bluesbreakers (Green had filled in for several gigs the previous year). When Green quit to form Fleetwood Mac, a teenaged Mick Taylor was enlisted, doing three studio albums prior to Mayall dissolving his electric band and recommending Taylor to Mick Jagger as the one to fill Brian Jones vacated spot in the Stones. - Prior to the Bluesbreakers Green and Fleetwood were together in Peter Bardens' band Peter B's Looners, which also included bassist Dave Ambrose (Jeff Beck, Julie Driscoll/Brian Auger & the Trinity) and keyboardist Bardens (Them, Camel, Van Morrison). - Listen to Fleetwood Mac's 'Black Magic Woman', then listen to Peter B's Looners version of 'Soul Dressing'. They are like the raw beginnings of Santana's version of 'Black Magic Woman', though Santana already had the latin thing happening and likely never hears the Looners' version of 'Soul Dressing' (though possibly heard Booker T. & the MG's version). - Green is considered by those in the know as Britain's greatest blues guitarist. And like Carlos Santana, he was greatly influenced by BB King. Though they both styled their playing after King's, early Carlos was also audibly influenced by Green. Listen to Green on 'The Supernatural' and you might think you are listening to Santana. - It is nice that Mick mentions Christine McVie. Though most fans of the Mac know her only from that band (she had helped out on early band recordings including doing the cover art for their 'Kiln House' album before joining for 'Bare Trees'), she was a star in the UK thanks to success with blues band Chicken Shack, with whom she had a hit with the Etta James classic 'I'd Rather Go Blind', a tune she also included on her debut solo album way back then. Her recent passing from this life was such a shock. She was the band's not-so-secret weapon...a real gem who was loved and is missed by so many, including Mr. Fleetwood.

I remember Sue Marchant mentioned only a few years back that Peter Green did a gig at The Secret Garden venue in Cambs. He was spotted in Norwich a few years ago as he lived near to Great Yarmouth in his latter years .. I always play Man Of The World and Green Manalishi. I like this English attitude and roots, much better before they became Americanised imo

Green was the best in the late 60s, and most people knew it. His demise as an artist remains a significant loss to music lovers.

There are two Fleetwood mac`s. Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac was first, Disco Mac came later.

Black Magic Woman was influenced a lot by Otis Rush, the CHicago blues guitarist, that probably hardly anyone will give credit to

Santana never played Margate, but I think he understands the U.K!

Any of the Peter Green Tribute Concert profits go to charity? I haven't heard. Now that would be a real tribute to Peter Green. Give all the money to the needy. It's why he left the band and the music industry. "Green Manaleshi" says it all.

@@bjr4567 Thank you. I did find brief mention of that. I think it's a Roger Daltry/Pete Townsend initiative from what I understand.
