@@SteveR5954 Yes the drums and the bass were always massive in Mötley Crüe. First time i listened to "New Tattoo" my reaction was that the drums don't sound the same. And they were played by Randy Castillo (RIP) who was also another legend. Tommy Lee has a unique way of hitting the drums just like John Bonham and Ginger Baker

Man we saw them on that farewell tour and honestly Alice Cooper blew them out of the arena. Vince was so bad, pathetic really, with the mic constantly stuck out to the crowd, Tommy was just a circus act with the roller coaster, and Nikki, well, in an arena, the bass is just booming and rolling around and nothing is even discernable....but Mick. Mick freaking Mars just ripped and roared all night. Every single riff, all the classics...Shout, Live Wire, Feelgood, Kickstart, Looks, he was as good as he ever was. The solo on Home Sweet..OMG. That guy belongs in the hall of fame. Guys can only dream of writing riffs like that and sounding like he does live and on record.

Master volume Fender twin for Jonesy's NMTB tone, mutitracked, This gets amazingly close though, don't you think?

I'm with you Pete, when I get a piece I love, I keep it; Mic letting this relic go is a little baffling. Great vid!

I'm a complete novice without any experience, but this was fascinating. While I didn't understand a lot of the tech jargon, they way you demonstrated what you were saying really, really helped me to understand. I'll be tuning in from now on.

To think back, in the mid 90’s I bought a modded 1970 100 watt SL from a mom & pop store for $450. Nobody knew much about the history of the amp. The seller (relayed to me) said it had a “L.A. mod, cascading channels.” Who knows? The amp sounded just as gained up as the Jose amp here, even at bedroom volumes. The tone was similar however the one I had was warmer, (brown) almost too brown as it buried itself in the mix. Because of that I never really cared for it’s tone, preferring at the time my 50 watt JCM 800 and my Jubilee. The funny yet sad part of the story was these amps started to go up in value. So when I saw that I could double my original investment. I decided to sell. But first I brought it to a well known amp tech in my area to be put back to stock so I could get top dollar. I know, dumb. But that’s how it was back then. Stock vintage was primo. That’s the sad part. The funny part is the tech, I guess by accident, wired the channels backwards so when me and my buddy plugged into it for the first time it sounded like a banjo! Anyways he fixed it right and it sold. Put back to stock the amp was LOUD, bright, and clean, It didn’t start to crunch up until almost 8 on the dial. I’m sure many others here, like me, wished they had kept some of the vintage gear that passed through our hands. That amp was and still is a big regret for me.

Like Custard Pie...you gotta love Marshall Plexi's! Bone stock they're great and they make a fantastic platform for modifications. Just curious since you just did the huge power tube comparison last week, which tubes did Dave choose for this amp when he re-tubed it?
