To the guy who said this is just noise.... Ripping a thousand notes a minute is noise. Mick is being raw, emotional and gritty. There is more to being a soloist than being a show off, mick just happens to do both
It's amazing that even with the bone disease he has he still goes out every night and plays for millions of fans and is still one of the greatest guitarist of all time, I hope im half as good as him one day
Micks style is very different from others, and thats why he's one of my favorite guitarists. I just wish that people would understand that instead of saying that he sucks.
Mars will go down in music history as one of the most innovative and talented guitarists in modern history. There is no question. The only reason why he is not currently higher on the famous guitarist musician list is bc Mick was always a humble unassuming man who shunned the spotlight at all times so interestingly, he selflessly and gladly let the 3 other lower talent little punks ( Vince, Tommy and Nicky) take all the credit while Mick just let his talent do the walking. Every musician expert and academic musical expert knows the real reason why Crue was one of the highest selling hard rock bands of all time but strangely, not all has the courage to state that it is Mick that brought the Crue to the global success it became. He's the only reason why I love Crues music to this day, his guitar work, period!
Mick was never a lead guitar prodigy, but for God's sake, the guy COULD play lead guitar. Too Fast has some great solos, as do many of the follow-up albums. The Mick Mars you're seeing here is an old guy, afflicted by a severe and terrible form of arthritis. Cut him some damn slack. He's out there still giving it his best while most people would be at home, collecting disability and whining about how bad everything hurts. This solo is NOT reflective of the caliber of guitarist he used to be, but god love him for still doing what he loves.
I agree he was 30 years old when he joint Motley Crew when you do the math and his pre existing condition it is understandable. At least he still gets up there and tries.
Mick is a great guitar player! Sometimes doesn't get enough respect, but the guy is kick-ass! Especially when you consider the spinal disease he has had for a long time. Keep kickin' ass Mick!!
These are the kinds of solos he did, he never tried to show off more than others, just create interesting sounds that sound like they're speaking to you which is why I like Mick Mars over a great deal of other guitarists. He's not the most technically impressive, no, but for what he does he's pretty good at it
Only a seasoned musician would realize this isn't a solo, but a statement. Mick has the most rawly constructed arsenal of riffs, and some of the most catchy blues-rock solos (listen to smokin' in the boys room or home sweet home)... In other words, this was merely a "fuck you" to the lack of authenticity that carelessly composed shred solos have to offer. But anyways, continue the bicker, it furthers his point.
Sorry, but i disagree.i am an experienced guitar player, and i love mick as much as anyone, but this solo is not very well.nor is it composed.you can tell hes playing "off the cuff". I know he has age and health issues so ill cut him sum slack.but lets be honest, his guitar skills have taken a big plunge.
ALSO, guaranteed, Little Vince, Tommy and little Nickie absolutely agree and know exactly what I have just written about their quiet leader and reason for their wealth, which is, Mick Mars!
To all these Mick haters please for the love of god upload this exact solo to your channel instead of sitting here talking shit about someone who is probably 10x better than you and more successful than you'll ever be.
what makes Mick stand out from the other idiots is that he doesn't play the same stupid blues riff over and over at every show! He changes it up a little bit every night! He's an amazing guitarist
listen to any of the great guitar players that have gigged and recorded for over a quarter of a century, none of them can do the flash shit they did in their youth. nor would they want to. I toured with Mick and the Crue in 1984 and let me tell all the, know nothing haters, that man could fucking play. he made his strat talk to you. A lot of the 80's lead players were all about speed, scales, arpeggios and triads. a lot of lead solos were ego-driven exercises and had no bearing on the song. While Mick Mars was generating great riffs and great solos that fit the songs.
I love both of them (hence my RU-vid name) but I think Mick is better than Slash because Mick makes it seem as if his guitar is talking to you in some way even I don't know. Slash is awesome too, but literally everyone knows him so yeah. But like I said I love both of them. So I'm not hatin' on Slash.
I know this is a 6 year old comment but, it's the internet.. dude he's an old man with multiple crippling and extremely painful ailments and medical conditions. Put it in context a bit man. I'm sure from 81-2006ish Mick had more left in the physical tank. And could play the hell out of that guitar. Now? I can only imagine how much it hurts his hip and back just standing there. Poor bastard. I'll miss him when he's gone, you should too.
He is good and I agree with his condition that I admire a lot and love the Crue, but trying to compare him to like Slash is no comparison! Slash is like light years beyond Mick Mars in talent, feel, melody, technique!
I just don't agree. Slash def had his moments, some terrible ones too like that MJ performance and I've seen him f up majorly, but Mick created some of the best heavy rock riffs and solos of all time before GnR was even a band.
@@stiffrichard2816 - U have ur opinion, but Mick plays a lot of the same scales and his solos all sound the same! Him and Kirk Hammett have the same robotic stuff over and over for the most part! Good example is I could listen to Marty Friedman or Chris Poland all day long and never get bored, but Mick and Kirk I would! Mick can't compare to Slash imo!!!
hes a very good guitar player, but his awful back disease really messed him up, hes a multi millionaire rock star, loved by millions, so who cares about what you have to say? no one, you have a lot to learn about life and people... good luck kid hehe
Looks like he has gotten his money's worth out of that fender though mick is the shit motley crue ain't shit without him very underrated most bands need a rhythm guitarist and lead mick says fuck that I'll do it all myself gtfo
he is not a virtuoso, but he made songs people seemed to like at the time. i just came to check him out because the contest between him and Zakk Wilde. I never really liked motley crue at all.
Mick has never been on the same level as other 80's guitar players from LA like George Lynch, Jake E. Lee, Randy Rhoads, Warren DeMartini, etc, but he still had his moments. He can play a good solo, some of his leads on Too Fast For Love are great, but I doubt if he can even play those any more. I wonder how much his age and bone disease affect his playing. That sounded like so many 13 year olds at Guitar Center trying to sound like they can play.
Mick is not the best guitarist, so I guess you have to enjoy him the way he is and how he plays. For the skillset that he has he plays very well. And the guy is like in his 60's, Mick Mars is cool as fuck.
Calm down everybody, it's just a fucking rock show. They all do their solo bits, Nikki makes synth noises and blows up in flames, Tommy plays sample trigger beats upside down on a rollercoaster, Mick make a wall of sonic distortion with his finger noodling... Motley Crue is all about great songs, not technical virtuosty. It never was. If you don't like MC then get the fuck off this video!
"The musical abortion". Lol. LOL. What is that supposed to mean? Don't you mean "abomination"? Do you know what an abortion is? I'd just like to say that even if MacDrian is a famous millionaire musician (very unlikely) then why haven't we heard of you? What band do you play in? The Sisters of Premenstrual Agony? Ha. Mick Mars ftw. :3
Agreed. The ability to tour for years and years and convince people to hand over money has nothing to do with actual musical talent. Fuck anyone who says otherwise.
None of that is a solo, its all noodling, do that sht all the time. Now I did see them in Houston during Theater of Pain tour and he ripped out some good solos, even did a great slide guitar solo on a steel guitar.
Yeah, He sucks so bad that he's managed to make a fortune doing what he loves, toured all over the world many times, band came out in 81, and 30 years later still sells out stadiums. Man what a freaking loser. I'm glad I don't suck that bad.
He wasn't trying to reproduce it, he was quoting for a second, distorting it and then onto the next idea. I know cause I've done this kind of thing. Doesn't always work, but why the hell would I want to play the exact same lick? That's boring.
Ehhh? This is embarrassing No one with a shred of musical ability would tell you this is anything other than f-ing around, and not a solo. BUT IF YOU LIKE IT...THATS FINE I like Motley Crue, but Mick never could play. They are more about rock star attitude, getting p-ssy and putting on a show...which is entertaining! I've seen them several times. but calling him a guitarist is a giant leap.
upload you doing this then. every guitar player has their own style. many great guitars players could have trouble playing this, considering every one has their own style and technique.
MrTokedo The fact that you call this technique, disqualifies you from the conversation. I do not mean to insult Mick Mars (God Bless Him), but if you think this is displaying any "technique at all, you have never tuned a guitar! If you want to see technique, search Muris Varajic, Paul Gilbert, Brian Setzer. Chet Atkins. Junior Brown, Les Paul, Eric Johnson.... Even Glen F--king Campbell. Different styles? ....Yes, but I don't think they would have a hard time replicating this,
Seriously? You'll be half as good as him IN one day. No offense, it's admirable to do shows in front of millions of fans when you are suffering from disease.... but after over 30 years of playing guitar he barely manages hitting random notes thrashing sloppy chromatic notes and raping his whammy bar. Sorry, but calling him "one of the greatest guitarists of all time" is plain bullshit and just not true, in no fucking way. If you want to see one of the greatest guitarists, google john petrucci.
Hmmm....you appear to be mistaking commercial success for talent. These 2 are NOT mutually exclusive. Nicky Minaj has made a fortune doing what she loves.....do you appreciate her as a musician? Do you see how vacuous your point is?
