This video is about MicroCap Tutorial 3 Boost Converter. I demonstrate more MicroCap tools and we delve a little deeper into the circuit. Then I open and present a new Vacuum tube audio amplifier circuit with more vacuum tubes in it. #microcap #microcaptutorial #micro-cap
If you haven't heard - you can get Micro-Cap from Spectrum-Software for free, so help spread the good news that Micro-Cap SPICE Simulation software does not any longer cost $4500, it is now Free. I really like the waveform overlays and the zooming. Nice that you actually showed the effect of rDS of the MOSFET. Finally, really like the stock circuits they provided 73...

Another great video. Very informational and helps with the analysis techniques. It's been like 30 years or so since I dabbed with Analog. Just didn't have the equipment on my work bench. So, a major WOW with all the included circuits. I've taken a stab at trying to set up an plasma ignition circuit with an out put of about 40Kv to 80Kv. Both the Spark Gap and Transformer are based on macros and can't be stepped the usual way. So I'm trying to understand how this Macro capability works. So, yes, you are so right this is an extremely powerful application. Chugging onto the next Tutorial. Hoping you'll have some stuff on how to configure macro based components. Like the Transformer and Spark Gap. :)

Great video again!! At 0:44 where the blue smoke came, I thought... "oh no what are he doing!" but then when the blue screen came, I thought, wow that's well made, and funny. I did also like the small subscribe animation you had put in, good decisions. I like the way you teach, I am the type who have hard time learning things if they are not logical, so your part about the 4-way crossing was something I do not forget, thanks to your simple and logical explanation. By the way, I have designed a rectifier circuit in the program and got an analyses, thanks to you. I have combined some of Mr. EEVblog's ripple elimination, some noise suppression and voltage reference. Only strange thing is that the analysis says it takes about 20 minutes (1200 seconds) for the voltage to get up to the 5 voltage out. :-)

Thanks for this great feedback Fried Mule!! I’m glad I’m teaching so it is understandable;) It sounds like you are having fun;) I’ll have to show some ways to speed some sims up. I remember going out to lunch or even to bed to wait and let my simulations run...and hope the pc did not freeze.

@@KissAnalog Thanks to you, do I have a lot of fun:-) Maybe also an tutorial on how to change a component to fit your needs. I.e. a 6 pin (3 pin active) voltage reference where you want to add a 4th noise reduction pin or something like that.

Kiss Analog Eddie measured a 150-200 Elcos learned that higher voltage is higher ESR also JJ Elco,s 500uf = 650 uF 500 volt having a low ESR 0,15-0.2 ohm and another Brand MA Black with Gold letters and graphics High End 😉 2 to 3 times higher ESR

That’s really interesting! Some capacitors change capacitance with voltage, but I guess I don’t remember if I’ve looked at esr over the caps voltage range. Great info!

Nice. Interesting to see the operating characteristics of that circuit. I think you should do the simulation of your little converter and show the difference between simulation and reality; it would be interesting to see what you would change in the simulation to get it to agree more with reality (adding in parasitics, ESR etc.) That would give a good feel for what has to be considered. For example, my simulation was great but the actual circuit wasn't really behaving like it - that's because I chose my output caps badly and had an ESR of 350mOhm!! Once that was added in to the simulation it went to @£$% as well! I'm no expert on simulating by any stretch of the imagination but I came to the realisation that you still have to know what you are doing otherwise you get a warm fuzzy feeling from simulating only to find yourself under a cold shower on the bench. Showing that in practice with your converter would be great. Another thought: remember when you flipped the inductor over to add wires so you could probe it properly to show us what was going on - simulating the impacts of that 'build decision' might be insightful??

LOL Andrew!! You are so right. It really does take both hands on and simulation time to get the sims to work better the next time;) I’ll try to do this boost video very soon,

I was wondering if you have videos that would the three boost videos that you have but for buck SMPS? Thanks for the heads up on MircoCAP. When I started at GE back in 82 I got one of the first desktop computers in the department and one of the first software packages I picked was MicroCAP.

Thanks for this feedback! That is so awesome! Yes, I do have plans to go over buck converters, so that anyone can design - and simulate one;) I'll have to do that soon!

Does it work on Linux and Macintosh

John sweda Great question! I use it on my Mac with the parallels program. I don’t know about Linux. I think the new Macs will be able to run it without parallels, but I don’t know.

david luther David, I am sorry to hear that - I wondered why I haven’t heard from you in awhile. I hope you get better soon! I have a friend who had that and he actually felt a lot better when he had all those stones removed. I’ll post some other videos very soon - I hope you will like. But do download the Micro-Cap just so you have it. Thanks for letting me know and feel better.
