I agree with your analysis of the benefits of 16:9. I think part of the issue is that since lenses are round, for a given lens size it’s possible to fit a larger 4:3 image in the image circle of the lens than a 16:9 image. So it’d be possible to gain a bigger FOV with a wider angle lens, but the 4:3 image would still be able to be larger. One interesting solution to this can be seen in newer firmware with the “16:9 Full” mode. Check out my review of the HDZero Nano V2, near the end of the video. Basically, because the sensor in these cameras is a 16:9 sensor, they added a mode that reads out the entire sensor, giving you a large 16:9 image. Since the sensor is larger than the image circle of the lens, you get heavy vignetting, but you get the full 4:3 FOV and a bit more horizontal FOV. It also opens the door to using a wider lens on the camera. Since the HDZero Goggles are native 16:9 and have the largest view in that mode, I’ve been enjoying this 16:9 Full mode with the goggles.

@@ATXAirborne Thanks for the technical correction and insight. I'm sure you can see the cause of my mis-conclussion! Ryan has pointed out the same to me and also added that changing to a larger lens is beneficial. All a bit strange when the goggles are 16:9, so why would anyone not want to optimise the view in the goggles!.

Yes it will require a firmware update. Not sure what all features that update will include, I’m sure it will be out soon. Thanks for the compliment on the video.

On the 04X you should be able to set the camera to 4:3 and leave the VRX in the original aspect ratio with no h960 or cut. Make sure in the 04X settings you have the input set to 4:3.

@@ATXAirborne I've got the goggle half covered, but I see pre-orders but no stock on the v2 cameras, I still haven't seen the 1W VTX though. Looking forward to converting at least 2 or 3 rigs in the Spring at least one using the Micro the other 2 probably the nano. I'd love to see a 20x20 or even 16x16 VTX at 600mW or above too (eventually). I am very happy with the progress (both in quality and options) I have seen so far. It's going to be a fun year!

The micro v2 should be at retailers very soon. Latest I heard on the freestyle (1W) VTX is end of January.
