The second episode of Micro Melee! Shoutouts to Evan Oliver and Kushman420 for helping me record the clips.
Micro Melee is all about focusing on specific smaller scale moments in melee, rather than larger universal concepts. This means I'll often focus on a specific characters ideal response to specific situations, all while trying to be as concise as possible. It's worth noting that the "Micro" in Micro Melee is referring to the micro interactions that I'm focusing on. Not the length of the video!
Thanks to everyone who subscribed and enjoyed the first episode. I'm working on more content that I'll hopefully produce on a weekly basis.

Double counter is the most swag option therefore the best, thats why he doesent show it being done we would all be convinced

I love these! Could you do some episodes on some of the more rare ICs desyncs (wavedash, landing, OOS)? That would be wonderful, and keep up the good work!

White Nerd hate to bring bad news but I literally just know how to wobble and some basic hand off stuff. Not an ICs expert at all. My videos in the future will hopefully help players in universal ways (especially the future complimentary series, Macro Melee) but yeah I don’t see myself making Ice Climber only videos really ever, sorry. Just not worth learning stuff for a character i never play.

White Nerd thanks! Honestly I think the upcoming content I’m working on should be able to help all kinds of players, regardless of character. Of course I’ll do character specific tech, but a lot of stuff should be universal

In what cases do you shield? I dont think you can do it on reaction, and it you always do it you're just gonna get ledgedash grabbed every time

The short answer is if you can’t shield on reaction, your opponent can’t ledgedash grab on reaction so try shielding! If you do it too much, they could ledgedash grab but shielding absolutely is a common option used by pros

Nope, just been playing for nearly 5 years. I'm far from an expert in all characters or anything like that, but after playing this game that I love for so long I've learned a lot and wanted to share that knowledge. There are a lot of super important concepts in smash that people don't understand, that don't need to be explained by a pro. In the same way you don't need Jimi Hendrix to teach you how to play guitar, you don't need Armada to teach you that stage positioning is important, or knowing how to punish a certain option is useful. For what it's worth, I'm a professional writer so those skills have helped me map out how I wanna explain things, and how I wanna write the script in general. Hopefully you're enjoying the content!

peach can throw a turnip if she had one, otherwise a preemptive dash attack works well or shield nair. Am I missing something an option besides these 3?

Does this beat or lose to ledgedash shine/utilt?

hopy921 just guessing right now, but I imagine it loses to “good” ledge dashes where Falco retains enough invincibility to not get hit by the counter he triggers with shine. I imagine it also might lose in general since it could activate counter, not connect and leave marth in lag for a punish. Ultimately...I don’t know! Worth testing with a friend for sure

There's less lag with an activated counter, and I think it has a few immunity frames.. haven't tested it explicitly though.

Love it, but forgot to mention that Falco can counter option 2 by using Side-B and killing you if you are not ready or already used your jump

Philipp Wodenutscharow there’s really no reason for you to use your jump before that though. If you think he’s gonna side-b you can react and meteor cancel. On top of that, that counter is basically falco commiting to killing himself, so it’s not really that big of a deal in my eyes because most falco try to survive. Plus, if it’s last stock, falco’s fall speed will make him die first, so again, I don’t think it’s as big of a threat as you’re arguing it is

MichaelRadar I have lost a set because of it. If you try to cover a well DIed counter as a read, and at relatively higher percent you can only reach woth the fair or up B by double jumping. It is something that should be worth mentioning to be aware of.

Philipp Wodenutscharow I still disagree, but respect why you think that. Ultimately Melee is a super complex game, so trying to cover every situation is challenging and dramatically increases the length of the video. I don’t think that scenario is really such a problem, or common enough that it’s worth mentioning in the video. If you’re having trouble with that, just grab ledge instead. I feel like that’s a solution people could figure out on their own.

I think that only happens if you assume up-b instead of reacting to it. Falco's up-b is pretty short, so if you wait a bit, they have to up b at a certain point or they die. Around that point is when the Marth should come off stage to fair imo. If you fast fall it, you should always have enough time.

hi, good video. just some constructive criticism, the vid title is a little misleading. I came here expecting more applicable options for most of the cast. Otherwise great video (if this series is all about marth disregaurd my comment)

In the video before I start explaining the technique specific to Marth, I discuss the techniques that are "universal" to all characters. This starts around 0:32. I also feature videos showcasing how different characters deal with it throughout the video, such as Yoshi down tilting, Sheik down smashing, Falco shine out of shielding, etc. I don't think it's fair to call it misleading when it does offer options for all the cast.

I still disagree. While there were a few clips, the vast majority of the video is just talking about Marth's option. The only other characters whose options are discussed are in those brief less than 5 second long clips and then only covered one possible technique for them. Maybe title should be "Micro Melee #2 - Countering Falco Double Laser as Marth (and a few others)

One possible technique? I said you can punish out of shield, which includes shield grab but also any option that the character can do quickly out of shield (such as shine OoS, nair out of shield, up-b out of shield, etc). I also explain that you can duck under the laser which opens up tons of options for a lot of characters (down tilt for most characters) and that you can jump over them. That's at least three techniques. Ultimately, even if you think the title is misleading, the thumbnail has Marth in it and the move is called counter. It's obviously a video about Marth's specific option, but I did my best to cover other techniques. I do think it offers at least three ways to handle double lasers for other characters, but it doesn't seem like you think that's the case. Also why does it matter if the clips are less than 5 seconds if they show the option in full? If you watch sheik down smash the lasers, does that need to be slowed down? I don't really get why them being short is an issue.

Toy wow so much knowledge of Roy, thanks!! I honestly don’t know much about him because he sucks so much lol. Only that his down tilt is good and his dash attack is ridiculously bad. (Which is saying something considering how bad other moves are)

Not worth it. You're better off using counter against badly spaced up+Bs by Fox and Falco.
