A quick overview of my tiny workshop two weeks On from the beginning some storage ideas and secondhand things which can be useful for storage organisation
I LOVE hearing all the different names used for things in different countries! shop vac= hoover, oscillating sander= bobbing sander, dust collector= chip extractor, drill press= pillager. This made my day! An you have a great shop ,you have utilized the space very well!!! Good job sir!
Thank you very much for watching yes I do enjoy the same videos tomatoes tomato It’s funny the differences have a great Christmas and a happy new year all the best Ben :-)
Congratulations on your workshop. Your efficient use of every teeny, tiny space in the tight shop layout is inspiring. And even the DIY scraps and gently-used pieces are tastefully finished to complement (or color-match) other hangers, an often-overlooked tool wall essential. “See the tools, not the hangers.”
Thanks for a insight to your space likes immaculate, you have some very nice planes and saws, very envious. I like you cache all amo box might steel that idea looks grate and practical. Thanks for tacking the time cheers mate.
You’ve done a fine job of utilizing the space you’ve got. I have the same problem, but it has worked for years. I have everything mounted to wooden bases so I can clamp it to the bench when in use and then change it when needed. Take care. 😁👍🏼
Nice job. I'm in an 8 x 16 and have less tools and it's still a chore getting stuff organized. I built a work bench with multiple tiers to hold heavy stuff I didn't want to pick up and move around (planer and jointer). Top gets the miter saw, band saw and incorporated a router table.
that sounds like a fantastic idea the more things you can build in the better :-) you’re lucky because your workshop is a little bit bigger as well but she’s always nice thanks for the message mate :-)
You are one organized fellow. Giving me some great ideas. I have all those tools minus the workbench. I'm going to try to get either my garage set up or get another shed in the back yard. Beautiful. Cheers.
Love this stuff I have a shed that I have a 13x36 clausing colchester along with a 9x42 Bridgeport mill with a baldor grinder and a powermatic 6x48 belt sander and tooling
The chip collector, compressor, and hoover could all go into a "closet" built onto the back, side of the shop. My shop is only 10' x16' and those items took up too much room. So off the back, I built a small shed or closet to house them all. I just use a 3 outlet extension cord that is feed through the wall via PVC pipe or stove pipe works too. The chip collector hose also goes through the same hole. The compressor is hooked to a short length of hose that also goes through the pipe and hooks to a moister gauge/remover then connects to a reel inside the shop. It keeps the noise out of the shop as well. Just a thought. Rag n' Bones channel did something similar if you want to check out his set up. (This was in his old shop)
hi there if you are in the UK and are buying the exact same model this runs off a standard 240 V plug so can be run off an extension mine is run off an extension from a mains socket as well it is quite quiet and quite compact so it might not be necessary to put it inside a closet but that might be an option as well I would recommend it it has been excellent the handful of times I have used it and the way he hangs on the wall is very efficient with space I hope that helps kind regards Ben
Very nice! I am working with a 10 x 5 space with a water heater taking up one corner so seeing how you utilized the space to conserve on floor space being used was very helpful. Awesome set up you have there.
Good job on your shop. In mine I hang lots of tools overhead to save space and still be able to quickly get them without having to walk all over the place.
just took a look at your channel wow what an amazing garage American hot rods Wilson bullet vise and fantastic wooden cabinetry wow what a set up have to say I would be quite appreciative of that level of space but in the UK we really are tight on space thanks for the comment regards Ben :-)
Thanks John in truth I just bought a load of tools and then put them inside hope they fit it :-) but it turned out OK in the end is your wrist OK? Still holding up
that’s a fair point Daniel it’s a great thing I bought it on eBay for 500 pounds it is 72 inches long and it’s very useful for storage and it has a lovely wooden top well we’re picking one up if you have the space thanks for the comment mate 😀👍⚒️
I loved this video, you have given great tips ;) I have recently started on my workshop/studio, it is not far off the space you have (10"x8") the only propper machines I have are a lathe and a bandsaw at the moment, drill press next month hopefully.
Looks very neat. Will be working on mine tomorrow, setting up the first fit electric. Size is similar to yours, but squarer and with one 'wall' a double garage door. It can open up into a wider covered area - so the everything on casters idea is def something I am embracing.
A covered area is always very useful especially when you’re doing dirty dusty work unfortunately I am a very limited on space wouldn’t mind a useful covered area to the grinding and you should put a video up on your channel I would like to see what you were getting up to?
@@tooladdict7463 I did consider it as a means to drive me to finish the work, but I've not stopped working all year, and it would just be another chore on the list.
Hi Ben, Back again! I remembered liking the flooring you had in your shop and came back to ask if it is real tile or a peel and stick type? I really love that you have maximized the space you have. Your layout is perfect and all of the items you purchased as holders are such great repurposing examples. Like that plate rack for example- what clever reuse for your chisels and it only sticks out a few centimeters! Really nice collection of hand planes too. I think aesthetically they look awesome as you have them on the shelves. You get to display them while having a good place to store them.
Hi there thanks so much for the great message I really appreciate it the flooring is a tile which I laid down myself before it was a shop thanks again kind regards Ben 👍😊
thanks Josh that’s an interesting idea I might do that one soon it’s not the size of the space is what you get done I’m sure once you’ve unpacked you’ll do Lots of exciting projects:-)
Hi, Your are making very good use of a small space... Interesting video... If i ever get more space myself i would like to get an old Emcostar machine as i think it would be great if you have limited space. Take care Paul,,
thanks Mike I’ve been trying to buy my neighbors garden off them so I can build a proper work shop for two years now but no luck I won’t be making lots of things Because you end up with all the useless items I’m just gonna use the tools when I need to do something every now and then I don’t want to hundred wooden bowls I just Made the workshop so I don’t have to cut things outside on the wheelie bins thanks for the comment mate :-)
I commend you...I currently have a 14 x 24 shop...and its to small. Mainly just the way its set up but luckily wife is allowing me to build another from ground up. 24 x 30 is what I'm building now. I know after building entertainment centers and curio cabinets I have to have better space as well as a carving area for my best seller flags. This looks nice but I really hope it works for ya.
Thanks Steve I appreciate your comment mate good luck with the new shop sounds exciting especially if you have both shops you will definitely have enough space for storing things and the workspace as well which will be great :-)
Thanks for the tour Ben. You are much better at organising than I am, I will for sure be adapting some of your ideas into my workshop. Did you get your dust extractor from Axminster? All the Very Best
hi Nick thanks for the message I bought my dust extractor on Amazon because it’s record power seem to be a little bit cheaper than the Axminster version and more compact and it had some good reviews on RU-vid if you’re interested check out badger workshop he did a good review thanks again for the message kind regards Ben
Ben!! I made a video not long ago which I showed a Fridge vacuum tool which is a long wobbly crevice tool for getting behind tight spots, Ill have to demonstrate it
Hi Brad your workshop is amazing I would swap any day :-) no they’re just metal holes and the little metal screws thread onto them like tapping works really well great design much better than the pegboard which is quite loose and things fall out thanks for watching all the best friend :-)
Great use is space! Can I ask what extractor that is with the filter on it as well as the bag? I have a wall mounted extractor with only a 5 micron bag and the extraction isn’t great due to the bag getting clogged. Thanks
hi there the bag is plastic so the filter does all the work on the extractor I bought it from Axminster tools and have found it to be excellent I hope that helps kind regards Ben :-)
