This video tutorial on using automatic word document tools for referencing, bibliography and citations can be so helpful to students. We so often hear from students that they do not know how to use these tools. This can save so much time and even help them with quick editing. Thanks once again.

Thank you so much! Very helpful. I have a question: I wanted to create a source, so I opened another word document that already has the information about the target reference (because I wanted to copy and paste as I did not want to type) but it did not work (you can not copy and paste from another document while opening the "create source tab". How can I solve this problem. I can do that from online but I can not do it from another word document, so I have to search for every single article online to copy and paste. Thank you!

Thank U so much. I have a question though: Whenever I insert a citation, it always appears to be in default format of (Author, Year), e.g (Williams, 1945). However, in my text I sometimes have to paraphrase the sources, e.g "Williams (1945) said that..." or "According to Williams (1945), ...", so I need to cite sources in format of Author (Year) instead of the default format". Is there an automatic Word feature to do that and how? Thank you sir a lot.

I'm very late, but I just want to ask, how would you write the bibliography at the end where you have to manually type in author's name, date, title, URL (if needed), page number etc? I've watched other videos where you type it in but yours seems to be automatic? Inputting citation and references very helpful though.

If someones name has Junior in it, where would I put that in the references? When you hit edit for the authors, theres no option for a suffix.

Does the reference automatically update if the page the caption is placed Changes?
@KnowledgewaveOnlineTraining
@KnowledgewaveOnlineTraining 11 лет назад
Shir, I'm not entirely clear on your question, but I have a few ideas to share. If you want to add multiple authors to a single citation, click the edit button next to author and you can add multiple authors in the Edit Name dialog box. If you need an Index entry for each author, just make sure to mark each one as an entry in the Mark Index Entry dialog box. There isn't a way to create different indexes that I know of, but you can give each author credit in the Create Source dialog box.

Hello there, Let say i want to change this citation in text form this format (RU-vid Press - Statistics, 2014) into numbering, e.g [1].
@logontolearn9057
@logontolearn9057 10 лет назад
Hi Ahmad, not completely sure we understand your question. Changing formats is done via a dropdown menu. There are many formats to choose from called styles. These are the universally recognized citation styles by educational institutions. If you Imbed your citations as footnotes, they will be automatically numbered. They won’t be numbered in the Source Manager, but that’s just where Word stores your sources until you insert them into your doc via footnotes, endnotes or a bibliography.

+LogOnToLearn How would you handle citing multiple studies? Something like: "Multiple studies support bla bla bla (Hare, 1991; Skinner, 1988; Smith & Griffith, 1978; McHoskey, 1995)." I just get every single citation in separate parentheses. Like: "Multiple studies support bla bla bla (Hare,1991)(Skinner, 1988)(...)(...)"
@AneraSv
@AneraSv 7 лет назад
cklick on the brecket (Hare,1991) [so the cursor is somewhere in the bracket], and go again insert citation. as you add the citations, they should now go into same bracket. but the problem is i want them to be alphabetically ordered, and without getting them into static text, or manually removing and inserting in the correct order, i simply cannot find the solutoion.

I had the same question as yours Ahmad and I ended up trying all the styles and found that using IEEE style changes it to numbering like [1] [2] and so on

If I use the additional fields you talk about in 1:25, the information from some of the fields does not get displayed in the bibliography, for example URLs, month and day of the article or year, month and day on which an online article was assessed. In contrast, the information from other additional fields like Volume or Issue is displayed in the bibliography. Any idea why might that be and what can I do to change it? Thanks!
@tc_okolo
@tc_okolo 9 лет назад
Depending on the reference type, certain fields not required would be hidden; for instance if you choose a journal article then URL link won't be displayed even when provided. So in referencing a webpage, you need to specify that the citation is a webpage. It's a lot easier using EndNote CWYW.

@KnowledgeWave, I have two separate "Source Files" that would created from doing assignments on two different computers. Is there a way to merge these two source files into one source file? I have tried to search it on Microsoft and RU-vid but can't seem to find any answers. By any chance, do you have some tips? Thanks in advance.
@KnowledgewaveOnlineTraining

Hi Juan, not sure we understand. You could copy the content from the old document to the new one and format etc.
@juanjones3956

@@KnowledgewaveOnlineTraining : Thank you for the reply. Sure, I can clarify. Since I use two difference computers to write papers & use Microsoft Word's "Source Manager" (within the MS Word "Reference" tab) to input & save citations in each one, is there a way to merge these files (which includes the citation data) together? I tried to copy the bibliography from one to another, but it caused and error and didn't add those documents to the other "Source Manager" file. So, I am trying to figure out some ideas to remedy this dilemma. Thanks.

Thanks, it was helpful. the Q I have is how to make an index that should comprise different themes like: Keywords, Author, Adviser and...? I have made the index of Keywords and when i want to create the index of Author (the book is written by several writers) it says do you want to replace the index? while i want to keep both of them. I will be grateful if you could make time to respond this question of mine. Thanks in advance.

If I cite a source at the end of a quoted sentence, does that citation give you the option to click ctrl + mouse to take you to the web page or no?? Like it would to the URL ?
@tc_okolo
@tc_okolo 9 лет назад
if you insert the complete URL in the citation then it would change to a hyper-link and would take you to the webpage when clicked (ctrl + click)
