You go to heat something up in the microwave just to find out that when you open the door it turns off... Or trips the circuit breaker... Maybe you woke up in the morning went to the microwave ready to heat up something and it's not on... In this video, I show you the easy way to fix that issue. STOP .. Your new fuse blew out already when you opened the door at the end of the video. The door latches that go inside the microwave frame activates three switches at the same time. If one of the three switches is bad or flaky and was not activated it will burn the fuse. It's for safety. The switches have a part number on them, order and replace the one that does not click when you press the little knob sticking out of it. Note that two of the three switches have the same part number, and one is different.

You should check your door switches to see if they are causing the issue. Otherwise you’ll just keep blowing the fuse.

If it keeps blowing it’s because there is a problem. If it does went opening the door, fix or change the door switch.

Okay, my 2015 Samsung Microwave had many issues. First was the light, ez fix, then after three years, the microwave would start turning on when I opened the door; so youtube university told me to changed the door switches. "Caution" please make sure you purchase the correct door switches from Amazon or your local appliance repair store. Next, I kept tripping my braker everytime I opened the door while it was running, so just when I was about to purchase another microwave, I came across this video, and for $5.99 at the local hardware store, I'm back in the game..... until the next issue. Thank you for sharing this.... change out the 20A fuse and all better now.

Good video. But I must admit, i had a good laugh at 1:03, just as you were telling why you had placed the magnet on the shank of the screwdriver, the screw falls off. Your expression and silence, as you were trying to spot the screw on the counter, was EPIC! couldn't have planned that any better, my friend!

This was a huge help! I was having the same problem with my microwave. Two suggestions: 1. I was looking for a Kenmore video specifically, and only stumbled upon this. Maybe put Kenmore in the name. 2. Also, it looks like the same model as mine, but mine had a small screw above the panel. I only discovered this when I was trying to slide it up and it wasn't sliding up. You may have removed that before the video was recorded.

Good clear instructional video. But there is always a reason for the fuse to blow. It is designed to shut off the MW in the event of some other problem. Maybe just a current/ voltage surge or perhaps early indication of a door switch failure (common).

A fuse is a protective device. If it is failing and blowing repeatedly, then the system is trying to tell you that something is not right. Replacing a properly designed factory amperage fuse with a larger fuse to prevent it from blowing out is a dangerous thing to do and it is absolutely not recommended. Solve the problem. Don't patch it with the equivalent of a bigger band-aid. JMHO.
@ianwarren5297
@ianwarren5297 5 лет назад
The actual issue with this microwave is one of the 3 micro switches for the door has failed. Replace all 3 micro switches with something like these universal ones. These universal switches will have 1 extra wire lead than the original, make sure you connect the wires on the same lead as the originial: amzn.to/2VrVtIv
@4plus2wj
@4plus2wj 5 лет назад
Its not just your opinion. It's a technical fact. This patch job is a potential fire and or minor explosion with adverse consequences.
@EdTube444
@EdTube444 5 лет назад
It's also important to listen before commenting. Not a big deal on RU-vid but maybe in real life. He never said replace it with a higher amperage fuse. He said the type used by manufacturer suck and then said the above range microwaves use 20amp fuses. He repeats that later again. So he is wrong in the long run, its probably one of the 3 door switches blowing the fuse, but he never said to use a higher amperage fuse. Murdering the English language is a different discussion entirely.

Mine will blow after a few months I think it has a lot to do with how much food do you cook that has Grease or oil in it. Because when I replace the fuse the old one is covered in oil. I think the oil is causing the fuse to blow. I believe it's just a bad design they should have covered the fuse somehow because it's wide open for oil to cover it.

*I have been doing this for five years now with my microwave. Because my mother gave it to me and it microwaves your food in the time it says it will. The new microwaves are worthless. But I bet you never took the fuse that blue out to the hardware store or had somebody test it. I have 12 blown fuses that turn my microwave off but yet they are not blown. Can’t tell because they are ceramic so you have to test them. Give it a try and let me know how it turns out?*
@CastIronCooking
@CastIronCooking 4 года назад
*PS the reason why you can’t see inside is because it is an appliance tube. It is ceramic to protect it from breaking glass inside the appliance if it blows. Much stronger than the clear glass kind that you use for old cars and stuff.The hardware store sells them in a two pack labeled microwave fuses or you can get them singly in the fuse department. Mine is a 15 amp but it differs between different microwaves.*

the real issue is if the 20amp fuse still blows... .like mine does. My Smegg microwave has OEM 12amp fuse ceramic, like the one you had originally. they are heat resistant, more so than the glass fuses so they are the far preferred fuse to use. I will put a 20amp fuse in mine as the 12amp fuse keeps blowing, but that indicates there is another issue blowing my fuse and going bigger fuse to accomodate isn't really the safest option, as there is a reason they put a 12amp in and not a 20amp... they want the fuse to go out before it uses more power.. but we'll see how we go

My door switches are working. I did a continuity test with my multimeter, and the sound came on. Even the clock and lights are working, the fuse blows out only when you energize the magnetron. I ordered a thermostat for $40 thinking that was not working , since continuity test failed. However, note that the issue was not with the thermostat , since the normal operation of the 70 degree thermostat is in the open position (no continuity) . It only kicks on at more than 70 degree temperature. Anyway, I still do not know what the problem is.

One of the door switches should have continuity with the door open, but not closed, or maybe the other way around. If you’re showing continuity both ways, it’s bad. You can check by removing it and holding the button in while you test.

The fuses and circuit breaker will continue to blow until you replace the door switch assembly. It will only happen when you open the door WHILE something is cooking. There are three switches in that assembly. Replace them!! Your problem will go away. Fuses do not blow for no reason!! You fixed the symptom not the cause. Do not tell people this is a fix. It is not

We have a problem. I’m sorry man, but I was startled when I saw your face. There is a real underlying problem with racism that no one really wants to admit. I’m sorry.😑 Your video was top notch, you know your stuff. Actually liked your video better then the you know, my own racist ass’s white dude doing the same thing with his ass hanging out. In my opinion I must be honest 100% of the time or I am doing a disservice to others as well as myself. With lies comes tyranny. Keep doing you and don’t be no ghost. Speak, sing, share what is inside. It’s the only way for us all to be free. ☁🌥⛅🌤🌞One love. I subscribed, if that helps😕

This is a common problem on this model of GE microwave. This model should be recalled. I have the same model, at first it start tripping the breaker everytime the door open on heating cycle, then it started blowing fuse. I checked the door switches but all 3 of switches tested good, neither were shorted or open.

Check if the hook latch has any wear where it is supposed to connect with the micro monitor door switch button.

How did you fix yours?

@@justojai I fix mine by a sticking a 3M double sided adhesive tape on the bottom latch that's in contact with the switch. The problem was when opening the door , the switches has to be activated simultaneously . When one switch activates ahead even a split second of the other switch it will blow the fuse. By sticking the 3m tape, it resolved the problem. Its been 2 yrs and its still working. I have the built in above the stove microwave , so we always pull the handle on the lower part of the door hence the bottom switch disengage first.

You are overloading the circuit with the microwave; it takes a lot of electricity. you need to have an electrician wire a separate circuit to your panel not just get another fuse. that is dangerous.
