Response to one of jaykay18's videos.
I remembered I had a motor for the turntable in a microwave oven that would generate a considerable amount of voltage if manually driven. Although it does not produce a lot of current, it will still light a string of LED Christmas lights.
CAUTION: Open circuit voltage may reach or even exceed 200 VAC depending on how fast you turn the shaft and will administer a nasty electric shock if contacted. Be careful around the connections!

Thanks for the shoutout! I'd guess that turntable motor is geared down considerably since it spins at such a slow RPM. That's probably why when "run in reverse", the motor spins really fast inside, and makes such voltage. That seems to make considerably more voltage than the gizmo I have, though it's a lot easier to shock yourself with mine! I'll have to see what else mine can power, though its internal LEDs are probably dragging down the amount of power it's producing. I guess in reality we've sort of reinvented the hand-crank flashlights they make for emergencies. Oh, in fact, that reminded me, since we ran these motors in "reverse", I did a video on that running one of those hand-crank flashlights in reverse, it's called Hand-Crank Generator Flashlight Repair, from over 3 years ago. Anyway, thanks for making this video, I really wanted to see that!

If your curious ,I'm working on the Model 120 ,I need to get two motors for it and I need to send the drawings in to a fiberglass and metal shop to have the horns and frame made. When the frame assembly is done the siren will stand 59" tall (from the bottom of the blower to the top of the rotor motor) ,and the largest diameter is the horns of the siren which is 75.45" in diameter. The length for each horn is 32" long and height is 39". If you wanna hear what it truly sounds like go on my channel ,My friend Edaan Freidman runs it up with a 3300 RPM drill and the max speed with the motor is 3450 RPM. And we are just using an air compressor to blow air through the stator ports because we don't have the fitting made yet that would connect at the bottom of the rotor assembly to the blower. When its complete ,since I live in Yorba Linda you can come see it in person.

Also you should tell CABLEvision on a thread about the Model 120s from 2007 that the so called diesel generator inside a utility can was actually a control cabinet. The blower was a electric Paxton blower that was under the sirens rotor and horns on the flange that supported the frame and now the Whelens.

I got one of these and you can shock yourself pretty good. I made a full bridge rectifier to convert it to DC.

If you use that setup to charge up a capacitor, it would be really nasty (I got a very nice shock years ago messing around with the flash unit from a disposable camera)

Take out the gears and spin just round small magnet and spinning it easier than with the cogs also hook upto 5 v drill USB and see voltage it makes. Just magnet and coil. No gears to slow it.

Thanks a lot

take the gears out and hook a dc motor to it and produce 220 vac from 12vdc thats what im playing with

Does it produce a pure or modified sine wave?
@yuandrew
@yuandrew 2 года назад
I would think a sine wave since it is a generator vs an inverter but I don't have an oscilloscope to check this

Take out gears and use the magnet and a motor then it will stay on constant 100v or near to it. But 5 volt usb to old drill motor or any motor the electric still flows 5 v to 100 v

2 questions, 1) what is a ‘’square wave’’( if I’ve got the name right, not sure what the words were), 2) I have several of these Microwave motors that I’ve salvaged from old cookers. I have been trying to use a ph charger for the USB to change the AC to DC, and even though the microwave motors I have a 240v - 4W, i can’t get it to charge a ph, any ideas? I have a collection of old obsolete ph chargers that don’t have USB sockets, just the wire that goes straight to the ph( as they used to do before USB’s). I would really like to utilise my 6-7 microwave motors as ph chargers to give to homeless people for emergency charging. Any help/advice would be much appreciated! ✌🏽🌎
