So I watched this video when it came out and I thought "yeah, well, meh". I came back, because this gadget just made my day! The Boss GT-1000CORE annoyngly doesn't have bluetooth like its big cousin. So you can't use it with an iPad and the BTS app. Well, with the widi jack, it works! Thanks Henning for putting this in my mind!

I use it with RC-500 looper (type A) and airturn BT-200 and it works great, the RC-500 midi out is powered so no need of any extra battery! The only cons I see is that the firmware updater for android does not work on every device (I tried 2 before make it work) but the their support is very reactive! Thx for the review

I've been a sub 4 a while, I do play guitar..hav been playing for 20+ yrs...I'm not necessarily a gear nerd as much as I am about cars, but this channel has always been entertaining, regardless. Last time I really kept up wit the channel there was 40k subs..awesome to see theres 3 times that now👏👌

They are really versatile bits of kit. Use mine with Strymon Iridium, Sunset, Line 6 Powercab, Plethora, Two Notes Captor X.

The „power via MIDI“-thing uses the two outer pins of the standard MIDI plug. The data uses the inner 3 pins, this is why you can also use TRS-Plugs for the data. CME also makes a WIDI-Master that plugs directly into a standard midi jack, I think only that one can be powered via midi.

@Robert G The WIDI jack can be powered from a MIDI port or USB port. My WIDI Jack takes power from a DIN MIDI or Mini DIN port with the right CME or commercially provided adapter cables.

My dream is of a completely wireless pedal board. Wireless guitar to the board, a battery to power the whole board, wireless midi for a controller to send signals to a multifx in a rack. wireless to the amp, wireless headmic so I can do vocals, wireless in-ear so I can hear myself wherever I go. To no longer be confined to a fixed spot on the stage but the complete freedom to move about and play and control my sound in the middle of the audience if need be.

There are now power cables which adapt to USB and USB C ports so you can run your pedalboard with a powerbank. So the Airstep lite, 2 WIDI Jacks, HX Stomp and a Walrus Audio ACS 1 with a powerbank on the bottom might be a "futuristic" pedalboard haha.

Regarding powering these from MIDI ports: MIDI is intended to be electrically isolated, so the MIDI-In ports typically have no electrical connection to the internal circuitry of the device -- instead, they use opto-isolators to pass the signal from the MIDI cable without an electrical connection. This means that you can't get power from a MIDI-In port (assuming it is designed to spec). Power is provided via MIDI-Out, which is present on MIDI controllers (keyboards, audio interfaces, etc) but may not be present on pedals which typically have no need for MIDI-Out.

I’m making a video right now for the Matthews Effects Futurist- it’s a tiny midi controller pedal. If I mix that with two of these, I could wirelessly do things like change amp channels with a tiny setup!

I have this guitar effects pedalboard used with ipad iphone, it uses a cable, but the app that uses the pedalboard can also be controlled via bluetooth pedalboard.......my question, if I can hook up the pedalboard to a midi adapter and the adapter to the widi.....can I turn this pedalboard into a wireless one?

So if you wanted to use a midi controller to control a modeler (ie hx stomp, ampero 2, e.t.c) you'd need two widi jacks? One for each device so they can communicate?

Doesn't the DC7 have an USB outlet? Can it power this thing? If yes, that would solve the power problem (at least for Cioks users) :-)

Boss GT1000core has no bluetooth, unlike its bigger brother the Boss GT1000.., this should be useful to give it blutooth functionality, so you can use the app on your phone or tablet.

There may be pedalboard-powersupplies that deliver the power required for midi so that you can make your own cable/adapter to inject power. Or maybe a power supply that has a USB-port. A power supply with 12V can be used to power a 12V/USB-charger. There are many options to power this thing on a board. Batteries everywhere is a hassle so I would avoid that unless I find some form of power bank that will power the entire pedal board

Pedals might not universally provide power, but my Wampler Terraform does. So does my HX Stomp.

Did you have to use 2 widi jacks to use your hx stomp to a midi controller?

@@oao8227 If you are going to send MIDI from a MIDI controller to the Stomp, yes, you need 2 WIDI devices. The controller needs one to be able to send commands, and the Stomp needs one to receive the commands. UNLESS they are sitting right near each other on your board, in which case you can connect controller out to WIDI In, and WIDI Out to Stomp In. But, if they are sitting right near each other on your board, you might as well use a cable. I have my controller on a separate board, so the wireless capabilities are helpful. Also, I send some MIDI commands from my iPhone, and for that purpose the wireless is very useful again.

Or, if your MIDI controller is wireless already, like the AIRSTEP, then you only need one at the Stomp side.

@@steveliberty thanks for the reply! I ordered two. If it turns out i only need one I'll just send one back. Im gonna try with a modeler (ampero 2 stomp) to controller (ampero control). My goal is to have controller up front and modeler on drum riser or near amp
