I’m afraid I find this all a bit frenetic and rushed which means moves are not finished off properly and cleanly before moving on to the next. It was all a bit of a blur. I’m not doubting her fabulous technical ability, just feels like she needs to enjoy each moment a bit more
Are you just repeating what Peggy Fleming says verbatim? Do you even know what it means? Do you hear them screaming at the end for doing moves that basically everybody else did as well, at least in the short? Live she was so much better in every way than everybody else it was almost a joke. Witt winning the 1988 Olympic gold dressed like a prostitute was laughable compared to what Midori threw down there. Ito had a connection to the crowd that only Kwan could rival. There are many ways to be an artist. Ito was an artist, you just had to think outside the box. The excitement she generated was unique. By 1989 the judges finally got the memo. You’re stuck in 1972.
You are absolutely correct even though people are trying to pretend like two things can’t be true at one time. She was extremely powerful exciting, and her jumps were great, but the overall presentation, especially with her stiff arms that were not soft at all, and as you mentioned, not finishing the moves off, her presentation has always been weak. If Midori is not jumping, or stroking around the rink, I can barely stand her, Skating, and I often fast forward, because in general, it’s not what I would call beautiful Skating. However, she is by far one of the most incredible athletes ever, but that doesn’t just invalidate that her presentation was very weak.
