The movie is a masterwork to me. But the actress? She's good. That's it. Amazing? Based on what? Gimme some context here. Okay what is your favorite female performance ever?
Dendelion Blu Based on personal feeling. Do you need more than that? This movie talks to the person who Watch it. Can’t explaine why i feel the actress. But i do. It may be her excellent way of being vulnerable and so innocent. A perfect cast imo.
Corrie - If you look at Christian, you can see how pathetically stupid he’s going to look in about 10-15 years, doughy, pasty, still thinking he has that youth to carry him, lacking the self-awareness that he’s perceived as a jackass.
Corrie - Ugh, it’s the worst quality when combined with a guy who thinks he is hot. I’ve met so many men who actually think they are appealing or hot, based on how clever they think they are...doughy 😂, pasty assholes with shiny bald spots, clammy hands and bad breath. They walk in a room, though, and think every woman wants them because they drive a cool car or were a football player 20 years ago. 🤢 🤮
Oh god, yes, Christian reminded me of my ex and it made me so extremely uncomfortable. It was like having to deal with my ex again and I was so upset throughout the movie
Very much like Yellowbrick Road! Another horror film which mainly takes place during the day and makes it much more disturbing then most ones that take place at nighttime, or seemingly.
Florence was great but can we appreciate Jack Reynor for a sec. He did a perfect job of portraying a guy who isn't necessarily evil but is kind of a douche
@@p994able Will Poulter is phenomenal. The guy who plays Christian... well Christian was a pretty boring character. Realistic I suppose. They all did good. But Florence really got to shine
“There’s no heavy handed foreshadowing” yeah except for the giant murals that literally spell out the plot which are lingered on for ten seconds by the camera
the initial grief dani feels in this movie freaked me out and set the tone for the rest of the film. it's something florence pugh made so real, especially for people who have lived through grief like that. such an insane movie and I honestly believe I'll never see anything else like it again.
I just absolutely love the concept of the people taking over each other’s emotions. Like when the older man who jumped off the cliff didn’t die and he screamed they began screaming because of his pain. Or when they are crying with Dani after she finds Christian cheating. Also, it’s very symbolic when they take a breath out and then sharply inhale, they are taking the emotions from them. Just the little stuff like that made this film otherworldly
Christian wasn't cheating he was raped... their transfer of emotion feels less like communal empathy and more like love bombing. Making it impossible for someone to process emotions and turning it into some perverse group mind experience. Agreed that those elements def did add to the movie.
Something cool I noticed is that when Dani blows out her birthday candle she does in a VERY similar way to the quick breaths that the members take. It’s too close to not be intentional. It’s like she’s already subconsciously becoming part of the community
I can say with absolute confidence that watching this movie was the worst viewing experience I have ever endured. I have no idea if it's a good or a bad movie, because I couldn't look for half of it. Hands down the best acting I've ever seen, but I am literally scarred for life. I was crying out of pure discomfort.
Man you have to watch Salo that damn movie was horrible , I felt so bad after watching it , i feel like Anxiety , depresión and human despair we are the worst thing in the planet... check it out
Oh god me too. I hated every minute I spent looking at this movie, I exited the theatre in a total daze, it took me almost a week to feel normal again... so I guess I have to say as a horror film it was very, very successful
Sergio Calderon is that the 100 days of sodom movie, if it is that movie was beyond fucked in every single way, thanks for reminding me of that disgusting movie 😂
My anxiety levels were through the roof when I was watching this. It didn’t help that you could hear Dani hyperventilating at times and I felt I had a hard time breathing during those moments. It still had a lasting impression a week after watching this.
I love that the film uses such vibrant, popping colors yet desaturates and dulls them to subtly imply something darker is occurring behind the bright and shiny veneer.
I Demand a movie like this and Hereditary but with prehispanic theme in Mexico because Aztec an Mayan cultures where full of colors and beutiful rituals and shit and this is the weird thing avout this movie: so much joy, colors, flowers, sunny and happy landscapes even tho is a horror movie.
This film hit too close to home. It reminded me of my last relationship so much. My ex was checking out of it for a year, didn't want to be with me for longer than that, and was always emotionally unavailable, even when my Dad got diagnosed with cancer he wasn't very affectionate to me. All in all, we were very wrong for each other. It still hurts as he was very cruel to me at times, so the ending was pure magic to me. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy ahaha.
@Ginnungagap i go to therapy once a week, thanks. i think ari wanted you to feel a certain level of ennui or a fucked-up closure at the end of midsommar. her smile says it all
Moments with Maggie - Just my honest opinion, but if you have to skip the beginning, I would say to skip the entire film. It makes no sense otherwise. Why even bother? It’s meant to be taken as a whole. To me, that’s like only looking at half of a painting.
Moments with Maggie - You’re right....that first part where she’s wailing...ripped my heart OUT...and I was so not ready for that. That scene stayed with me for days. It’s still hard to watch.
Wow. I thought the actors were American! Shows how good their acting was. Ditto Toni Colette in Hereditary although I've loved her since Muriel's Wedding
The first time I watched it, I hated it. The second time I watched it, I fell in love with it. I've watched it five times now and notice something new every time.
I never ever watch movies twice and I mean NEVER, it's just boring for me to watch movies twice. But Midsommar I've watched 4 times already. It get's much critisism, but to me it's an unrivaled masterpiece!
I lost a family member to suicide and then I saw this movie like a month later in theaters. The opening sequence pretty much wrecked me for life. Now it’s one of my favorites
This horror ish movie is actually amazing compared to other horror genre movies because we dont expect what was going to happen unless we deeply observe the situation and the characters personally. It increases our abilities to investigate clues and easter eggs that we dont often see in other horror films. Thumbs up for this movie👍
#1 what is so impressive is that 3 of these brilliant actors have an accent but find an ubelieveable way to do an american accent in the film, #2 Ari aster, thought his plots are wierd and distrubing, cinematogrphy, music, visuals, acting, editing is out of this world, and maybe hes my new fav director.
I really dont see how people preferred hereditary over this?? Hereditary was only good at the very beginning and end, the main movie was so boring to me but midsommar literally had my attention the ENTIRE time. From the get go my eyes were hooked onto the screen. It was intriguing the entire time.
Hereditary was much more tightly plotted. Virtually every scene and narrative element came together at the end. This one has plot threads that go nowhere or just serve to underline themes, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but for some it can come off as lacking narrative cohesion. Also, Hereditary has much more sympathetic characters. All the male characters in this one felt like stereotypes.
in terms of horror hereditary works much better. midsommar wasn't very scary, more disturbing, and at times was quite hard to take seriously. hereditary was incredibly tense and built tension very well, and was actually scary imo. i felt like i had no room to breathe when watching it. midsommar was relaxing in comparison and by the end the shock value had sort of worn off and it didn't hit me very hard, unlike the ending of hereditary. both films are good but for me hereditary is much better as it achieved what it set out to do more successfully than midsommar did, at least for me
I noticed when Dani was walking by saying “I really need to not be here right now.” All the people were watching her with various mixes of concern and hope
Without a doubt, *MidSommar* is the most splendid movie of 2019! Great script, excellent acting and interesting filming techniques. The atmosphere of *MidSommar* reminded me a bit of the original *The Wicker Man* (1973), which surely is a good thing!
The "Blood Eagle" scene was surprising and gruesome yet at the same time strangely satisfying to me. This is only because I had read about this torture technique about two years ago in a "Viking Ways" article. Truly horrific and exactly the way I had envisioned it. FIRST!!! BTW
Yeah, it was pretty cool. The Vikings only did it to warlords/high officials. Also if the victim didnt squeal or cry during the process, he died and honorable death and was eligible to enter Valhalla.
This movie worked extremely well for me I’m not a huge fan of horror but this movie wasn’t the “horror” you always have in mind. I love that Instead of basic demons and ghosts it was something different and not really related to that I feel like it’s more chilling that way.
I loved this movie. Saw in theaters and purchased. When it comes to art I wish that the love of a few could outweigh the indifference or disdain of the the many.
Reminds me of a twisted, horrific wes Anderson. I love this film so much, it’s astounding. By far the most disturbing film I’ve seen in my life, though :”)
What happened to that levitation shot?? It's in here and also the trailer, would like to see a longer cut which has the deleted scenes. My assumption is having levitation adds a supernatural element where they maybe realized in post that they didn't want any of those elements. Would have been very interesting though and a little more creepy.
It was removed from both the theatrical release and the directors cut. It was during Christians sex scene with Maja. He was meant to appear to be floating towards her since he was tripping but it was then felt as though the audience would have felt confused and saw it as more paranormal and not a trip.
blueyes6474 oh yeh, it’s VERY disturbing. If you are able to emotionally detach (I had to, I am a very emotional and sensitive person) but it is very beautiful and interesting in a visceral way
The ending was disturbingly relatable and that is a terrifying accomplishment. I feel like you know its wrong to empathise and see her point of view, understand why she feels that comfort, that relief and that finality for her. It does feel good, no matter how vile and disgusting the journey and reality is. The cult does an amazing job at accepting her and juxtaposing the hardships of her relationships. Her grief is accepted and shared between the members, she has cut all ties with her old life in the most violent and literal way. The fact the director is able to make me emphasise with a violent cult and feel happy for their victim is incredible and terrifying.
The scene when she has the bad trip was so realistic and visceral it made me weak in the knees because thats exactly what it is like, she conveyed panic so incredibly!!, she is one of the greatest actors of our time. The film is a masterpiece really.
What’s really scary is how many people were brainwashed into thinking it was a happy ending for Dani. When in reality she’s lost all sense of herself and who she really is and reality and has been completely converted into the cult and will probably some day be sacrificed when she reaches the old age.
I only have one issue with this movie and it’s that the relationship didn’t feel four years old. It felt like a one and a half year relationship that never got very deep.
that's the entire point though, both of them have been dragging this relationship for so long even though they know they don't have that much love for each other, it's just the commitment that's been holding them together
I saw this film last Friday for the first time. I think that this became my favorite modern horror movie, although I don't consider it an horror movie, but more like a psychological thriller or a drama. It's just beautiful.
This film was the most intense thing ive ever seen. I went with my sister and my niece and i actually almost got up and walked out. But im glad i stayed for it. I was still trying to wrap my head around it about 3hrs after lol
Woah Florence Pughs accent! I thought it was an actor from Harry Potter or something it sounds so refined like she's been in the business for ages I honestly thought it was Molly Weasley. She had such good acting in the film tho, top gal.
Florence Pugh has a very particular voice! In Italian she is dubbed by Mrs. Domitilla D'Amico who often dubs Scarlett Johansson, Eva Green, Kirsten Dunst, Emma Stone, Margot Robbie because they have deep Alto's voices. But Miss Pugh's voice is the most interesting and peculiar!!! Wow!!! I loved every her single character and Dani was extraordinary!! 😍😍👏👏 She is wonderful and Midsommar is an incredible great movie! Great actors for a great movie!!!
I've seen some people say they didn't like this movie and that's okay, but I feel like most of them were just very confused... this movie requires a LOT of attention and patience, overall a really good film.
Everyone has an accent. It's just not the accent you were expecting. It's a flawless American accent and I've never seen him in anything else, so I hadn't expected it.
