agreed! the MiG-29 is an aerodynamical masterpieces, capable of incredible maneuvers without the use of fly-by-wire. Actually, the only thing that handicaps the Fulcrum performance in the air is the human pilot.
Check out the Mig-29 OVT promo video by Wings of Russia studio. You can hear there the complete version of the intro music. I have it on my video list. If you want to download it then visit the site "aviapedia" and go to the Mig-29 section.
@russiaviation F-117 is still in service... Serb shot 1 down because it flew the same flight path every mission and they knew it was going to be coming and managed to pick up a weak signal. We continued to fly them even after and no others were hit or ever picked up. If serbs supposedly found the magical way to pick up the F-117 then why didnt they shoot more down? Could it be that once we changed the routes up, they never were able to find it again..... Imagine that
@sophiemaggie1 The Indian AF not only has Russian MiGs in its inventory but Mirages, Jaguars and Sea Harriers among many others. Actually, the SHar has one of the worst records in terms of crash rate in the IAF. The Su-35 was never considered for MRCA since it is in the +20 ton class, the Su-30MKI does just fine and India who's quite plased with them is purchasing more.
Technically this russ jet fighter does not exist. They’ve got only 3 of them and they are all kept in the museum. Their army will NEVER get them and that’s because they have no money. It’s just an exhibition forever.
There is some opinion saying the OVT is not nessesary, but to me the lession about the F4 without the gun had proven to be a costly mistake in Vietnam war. When the high tech missiles fail you, and the only low tech cannon is the only thing can save your ass, the OVT will prove to be "life saver" and you can live to fight or to fly another day !!i But then again, we all might just need a WW3 to prove this theory !!! WORLD PEACE, of course !!!
Great aerobatics, but its a demonstration, in a real dog fight loaded with weapons which affect flight characteristics and add drag, even with TVC, your not going to maneuver nearly as well as a stripped down, reduced weight display plane that wont ever see service, thats where the Raptor has the edge, no external weapons or tanks, always a clean configuration to maximized dog fighting, yet has the best BVR abilities of any fighter in the world.
@lape2002 then why is the F/A-18E/F considered? India intended for it to be a light weight single engine fighter but then changed its mind and now has the Ef-2000, rafale and superhornet in the running. They are also producing their own light weight fighter in country called the LCA.
Of course the radars does matter, how can you lock on enemy plane beyond visual range without a good radar. Also I'm aware that the MIG-29 have a limited range that's why I mentioned long-range missiles on my comment. Please bare in mind that you don't need to travel that far, all you need to do is wait for the enemy to come into your own backyard and hit 'em hard! One more thing, even the MIG-29 is light but it posses a very powerful engine.
@nedeljko031 No I didnt forget about the properties of radar defelction on 2D surfaces was first realized by a russian scientist. I give credit when credit is due. But Sukhio did say that the PAF FA will have internal stores compartments. It will have long range fuel hardpoints on the wings just like the F-22 does, there are pics of them when they flew to Alaska. And dont get mad russia and USA copied Germany after WW2 on all plane and space designs. It happens all the time.
very nice manouvre...unfortunattely, there's no more good ol' dogfighting air combat these days...if the Mig is have face the Raptor...I must say, my money is on F-22...
@nedeljko031 When you are talking about areo dynamics yes you can copy it by looking at it and scale it. And if you think Im wrong just look at pictures of the YF-23 and tell me the general design is different. The chinese did it with the J-10 and mig 1.44. By the way the 9 months was refering to a baby being born, I dont know how it happens in russia but it usually takes 9 months everywhere else.
I know that. But do you know that the missile have to maneuver to reach the airplane as well? if the missile is fired from over 20km and the mig starts to maneuver, the missile will be out of fuel pretty soon, and fly pass the plane in a big distance. mig will lock on the enemy airplane as well.
I just wish somebody or even REAL pilots post some video of the Raptor doing something like this for a chance (Just something like this only, dont even bother to try hard to be better). After all, it is a brand new, "high tech" and super expensive aircraft of the USAF,and the U.S taxpayers r entittled to at least see it in REAL action! Or is it only as good as on paper! Of course, it is also a way to shut all those critics up for good!
well having personal friends in the airforce i these pilots are conditioned and tought special ways to deal with G forces... so to them its not very hard... but to you or me we would probably grey out with in a few minutes
Not true? :D Don't say that. I was at MAKS 5 times. 1st one in 1999 I really can compare. And this is not only my opininon. The best was MAKS-2005. And you just watching promos :) But, from 2009 MAKS will be organized by another company - that is good news.
@lape2002 It took boeing less than a year to make the F/A-18E/F with AESA and 38% changes in structure. the Su-35 is not even in ILRP phase at 2010. Look at the planes in russian history, they have all been simple to manufacture and carried simple onboard systems. This gave them a numbers advantage over the west which had complex systems and cutting edge materials. Why do you think china purchases IAF weapon systems and radar for J-11/Su-27
@nedeljko031 If someone makes a breakthough in design that you didnt you are going to copy it just to fully understand what the tech is and how to better fight it.
@aeroshark1 We just lost the B-2 which was the biggest lost in aviation history . The F-117 so called "Stealth fighter" was shot down in Bosnia by some second class SAM system. And recently, the entire F-15 had to be grounded for so called " Structure failure" aka...the plane will be apart in plight ! F-22 cost 350 million a pop and even the Pentagon isnt impress with its performence ! The F-35 continuie to be delay and the cost going up when it supposed to be cheap aircraft for all.
@lape2002 how is it market strategy? F-35 has had over 100 flights in 3 different configruations with the avionics, radar and engine intended for the aircraft. The reason it is so delayed is because with an order book of over 1000 aircraft lockheed martin and its subcontractors were spending more time and money on infastucture to poduce the plane and complicated systems, something russia has not ,which is evident in the Su-35.
@aeroshark1 HEY, my "wing" man! I cannt help but really enjoy posting "comment" with you! hahaha! Good luck with all the flying, man! NO, I MEAN IT! CHAOs! hahaha!
@SovjetPhoenix yeah the Indians buy Russian jets and they have the highest crash rate of any known Air Force. Thats why the new MMCA competition has the F-16 block 60, eurofighter, rafale, F/A-18E/F, mig-35 and Grippen going for 125 deal. I would say the Su-35 but it couldnt make it considering 1 of the 2 that were made crashed and was a complete write off. By the way NATO standards are at 120+ hours/ yr russia was less than 50 hrs/yr for pilots.
@nedeljko031 no.....look at the trapizoidial shapes and nasels of the T-50. Look like something you've seen before? Now take away those features and the f-22/f-35 nose cone and it looks like a su-27. Now look at the vertical tail fins. Name one russian fighter that has them bent and not straight up, also what other russian fighter has trapizoidal fins?
do you know what a high g barrel roll is? it is not performed at high speed, and still it is the best maneuver to outrun a missile. looks like you really dont know much about airplanes and aircombat.
@sophiemaggie1 ! Whatever you have to say, just post your comment here, please! let the entire RU-vid communities read your reply, comments, or whatever! OK! You are entitle to whatever you say. We live in a free society after all! But do I give a fuck about it is the entire different thing !!! wouldnt you agree??? hahahahaha!
Wanna bet? Air to air missles don't have to physically strike the aircraft like bullet does to destroy the airplane, missles blow up in proximity and still destroy the aircraft. That Mig is NOT going very fast to 'show off' those moves, it is slow and vulnerable, and it takes TIME to get your speed back.... time he may not have. Lets's see him try that move at 650kts! Those moves are good only if you have nothing else to use and you're in a desperate situation.
@MrTrajan69 you have to admit that russian planes look much cooler than u.s. and they can make maneuvers that no single u.s.plane can fly. if you see an u.s.plane after u saw a russian plane on an airshow you think "boah thats just boring and loud"
There is no engine like this one !!! I wonder how the americans dare to yeld so much about the GE-ics of F-22, I don't know about its supercruise capability but as regards to thrust vectoring it looks like a complete woodwork compared to these State of technology nozzles. Fighter aircraft like this one, not even say something about the Sukhois would bring US over-confidence and most of all, imagination back to its original place - on the ground.
Well, it is good, that you don't have on the tail of The Typhoon. ;) Russia has the best airforce, but we don't want war with Europe. It is better to be friends, than enemies. Clear example - Russia-Greece, Russia-Germany, Russia-Spain, Russia-Italy.
Russia is 20 years behind USA in aviation now and that gap grows bigger every day. So this kind of videos is just a fuss and a tribune to their good old days aviation which has eventually gone…
"Just look what patroulle de france and Russkie vityazi with strizhi have done." All from theese groups were at 2005 also. And you haven't good manners. I have no wish to continue discussion.
@sophiemaggie1 U're completely mixing up everything here and just shows how bad your whole knowledge really is. First, the PAK-FA was kept under wraps and constantly delayed for a reason, market strategy. The T-50 appeared right when the F-35's program was getting into trouble... value in combat being debated and price tag always rising, suddenly Russia pulls out the Trump card, an F-22 capable air-superiority fighter at a cheaper price. BTW it was Algeria taking back its Mig-29SMT not OVT
