I suffer from familial hemiplegic migraine it happens maybe once or twice a year but when it hits I am gone for days... The stroke like tingling, burning and numbing sensation moves through one side of my body and I can't see or speak or walk then once that settles the headaches starts with sensitive eyes, weak muscles on one side (usually my hand) and I need to sleep for days with a slight headache!!! When I feel a migraine coming on I immediately pop 3x300mg of aspirin in a small glass of coke & drink as quick as possible and lay straight down.... Then ambulance is usually called cos I'm still in a lot of pain from the tingling, burning sensations on one side of my body.... Yesterday the hospital put me on a drip (after the tingling went away) which helped with the usual "after headache".. migraine is not "just a headache" I feel so sorry for everyone who has to experience this!!

I lived with migraines for years and years since middle school and only a year ago finally got treatment from a doctor. He prescribed imitrex and it is amazing how well it treats the pain. I’m so glad that I now have an “emergency exit” when I feel one coming instead of having to bear hours and hours of excruciating pain.

Thank You so much!! This helps to explain things over the years that I couldn't figure out. I never knew you could have a Migraine without the pain and that there could be so many symptoms. I love learning. Thank You again.

Thank you for these really clear and informative videos which have explained a great deal I did not know. I remember experiencing my first attack of migraine - aura and no headaches - in my early teens - suddenly losing part of your visual field was an alarming experience. I knew other members of my family suffered with migraine, but theirs was the classic kind with the nasty headache. Interesting that there is still much that medicine has yet to discover about this condition.

I'm a med student and I wasjust wondering, why does the nausea and photophobia is present? How's the neural connection ?

Nausea is from a dopaminergic activation. That's why they give Reglan, as it's a dopamine antagonist. Reglan can potentiate the efficacy of a Triptan.
