I have to be fair to illumination here though... Most of their movies are original. Despicable me IS an original concept. Then we have "Sing." "Secret world of Pets." "Hop." For all of illuminations faults and there are many... over half their movies are original concept and stories so I can't fault them for that at all.
@@MoonPhantomok, I should’ve been more specific, what I actually meant was Illumination doing something original for once that isn’t a sequel or adaptation. Because after 2016, they stopped making original stories and either did sequels (for despicable me, Secret life of pets, sing, and minions) or adaptations (for the Grinch and Super Mario Bros), which isn’t bad, obviously. But something new is nice every once in a while. I apologize for the confusion.
@v2007sentertainmentinc. you should totally watch Migration it's amazing 10 / 10 for me even 100 / 10 xd you should totally watch it . Truly illumination's best movie so far easily .
I also liked how in this movie humans don't actually talk. They grunt as if they're saying something, but nothing is actually said. I just thought that was cool since this movie is in the perspective of birds who wouldn't understand non-bird animals.
This is a perfect example of a simple and generic film being good. You don’t need constant originality and complex writing to make an enjoyable movie, and since that’s one of the most important things for movies to achieve, it shows that this is a good movie. Gorgeous visuals, fun characters and a genuinely charming sense of humor, it’s a great movie to just sit back and have a good time in the movie theatre. Hope we see more films like this in the future, to help balance out with the golden masterpieces like the spiderverse franchise and the recent puss in boots the last wish.
Migration is actually a really good film, and feels different to what Illumination have done prior. Props to Benjamin Renner for instilling a unique identity into an animated film.
It's New York City baby! We have ninjas turtles, pizza rats, gangsters seagulls shoplifting - a duck walking through a dance floor is just another Tuesday 😂
Well actually, it arguably should’ve done better because Christmas Day is when Jewish people hit the movies to bide their time in the day since they don’t celebrate Christmas. At least that’s what I hear.
the thing with mack checking the cellar out makes actually sense when you think about his character as a whole. He started off as someone who refused change and slowly starts to build this sense for adventure, especially building up his courage at the chef's place. He clearly felt good with everyone thanking him and thinking him as a hero. So ig with a inflated ego and a new found sense of bravery he went in. It's a cool character arc and quite obvious if I can say so myself... And macks whole character arc ends with him reminding erm... I forgor her name, but his wife that whatever is happening there is still light at the end of the tunnel. It's quite cheesy, yes, but it's enough for a good family movie and the topic of migration is not gate kept by only ducks and thus many humans can also relate.
Me & friend went to see this film because Godzilla Minus One was out of our local theaters, & for what it is it's actually quite good. I think animated films like Spiderverse & Puss in Boots really spoiled us making us forget not every film has to be a grand epic full of deep & emotionally torn characters. It's okay just to be a simple fun family movie.
why was it paintful ? like it was barely advertised ? agreed unlike their other movies Migration was a bit less marketed than it should've been , but hey i guess they were saving up for despicable me 4 and going all out on that rather than this movie , because original idea maybe is breath of fresh air always , but a risk also . And i mean it was advertised , but not enough in my opinion , but the advertisements were funny and i liked most of them .
Oh my god I like this kind of upload time no more waiting 2 months or 1 months for a single video now we can wait 1 week or 2 week for a video haha this is fantastic
One of the reasons why the movie is better that the rest of Illumination's package is definetly thanks to Benjamin Renner's influence as a director. He also made Ernest and Celestine and Big Bad Fox and Other Tales. (My Review ) With that said I couldn't help but to compare some scenes to Rio with how similiar they were like the escape from the plane at the climax and the dance sequence. I would not be suprised if they "inspired" by it. Sometimes it was a bit repetitive with how the main characters met other ones while having wacky hijinxs with together and I do kinda wish we could get little bit of explanation as to why Mac was so worried to leave the pod. There was deleted scene where Mac as a duckling left his family and flew beyond the pod only for him to get attacked by predators. If I would give positives its that the animation is beautiful while staying true to Renner's artstyle. The soundtrack by John Powell is great and the characters are very charming and fun. I especially enjoyed the dynamic between Mac and Pam and how much of a sweet couple they were. It was a complete 180 compared to Super Mario Bros in many details. While I don't find the movie to be as good as everyone else I had a fun time watching it and I would recomend it if want something simple yet charming.
I watched this film on the plane, and my thoughts on it are... that it's really safe and a bit generic, but it's legitimately heartwarming, fun, and enjoyable. It's basically a fun, simple romp that reminds me of animated movies of the 2000s, and kinda nice when you want a break from Disney and Minions. Legitimately would watch it again.
I watched this movie in theaters, I had zero expectations yet it was INCREDIBLE. I highly recommend you watch this movie, it genuinely feels like a family movie (like jokes for all ages) rather than (just) brain rot for iPad addicted toddlers.
I KNOW. I JUST WATCHED THE MOVIE YESTERDAY. And for that reason, this obviously combines the two elements from the Rio series and that are what subjectively makes this rather... similar in a way.
@@sullivanhouse4697Awkwafina finally gets a good role. Sisu and Scuttle were characters Disney shot at her like a riffle, and the wolf in Kung Fu Panda 4 didn’t exactly fix everything, but Chump is proof she can voice a character if given the right role (AND THE RIGHT SCRIPT, DISNEY WHY DID YOU MAKE HER VOICE TERRIBLY WRITTEN CHARACTERS).
@@juanca2567 yeah.... Yeah you're right. I've been thinking about that ever since I saw this movie. Although she doesn't have much range she still can play character as long as that character isn't annoying.
@@sullivanhouse4697 I know. Seth Rogen had two great roles as Mantis and recently as Donkey Kong. The latter being the best since his laugh actually sounded both fitting, intimidating, and funny in the scene it was at. Remember the Mini Mario scene? 🦍: NYAHAHA 👨🏻🔧: haha he … AAAAAH

People complain about chris pratt taking too many roles in kid movies (even though he only had three emmet, Garfield and mario), awkwafina is in every kid movie (little mermaid, raya, migration, bad guys, angry birds, kung fu freakin panda. Seeing you rank the duck movie itself truly made my day and honestly I have to agree with you Migration is just simply a fun movie to watch and it made my 5 year old bird lover me explode with joy when I first the news about that movie because back when I was just a child I used to absolutely *FUCKING LOVE BIRDS!!!* I used to adore them back then because they were just cool creatures and I used to be invested on almost every single species of them and when I saw this movie with my mom it made me a bit nostalgic for a moment because not only because it kinda reminded me of Rio a little and it’s also a movie I absolutely adored too but also because it reminded me of simpler times on back when life used to be so much simpler and that is something I really need for a long time and yes this movie along with the Mario movie and The Spider Verse movie are probably the 3 most anticipated movies I wanted to see this year and they’re all amazing so yeah Migration a good and fun movie for me and that’s ironic for someone where’s the channel OC is a literal duck saying this but yeah great movie highly check it out if you want something to make your day😊
i just want to let you know that i really do love your videos!❤️ i remember finding you and binging EVERY SINGLE VIDEO you have, and even then it wasnt enough😂 when im bored or need to watch something when im studying, rewatch my favorites, so thank you for your dedication to these videos (:
I was and still am very surprised by Migration. This is probably the least Illumination feeling movie out of all their movies. Also as you mentioned it has great animation and cinematography which feels weird because I can’t really remember a time when Illumination would attempt this. I feel one of the best things you didn’t point out about this movie is the score. Holy moly this score is fantastic. John Powell has to be one of my favorite composers and like always he definitely brought his A game. To me this is now my favorite Illumination movie. This manages to take all the fun of Mario with some of the heart like Despicable Me and it just ended up being a blast to watch. It is surprising that of all the studios that released more than one movie Illumination was the studio to be the most consistent. Yeah they most likely will still make a bunch of sequels but with this feeling like Illumination is stepping up their quality I might be giving them more hope than usual. Migration for me is an 8/10.
I think there’s further potential to expand upon it, as it did eventually become successful at the box office. For me, Sing 2 is my personal favorite Illumination film. Far superior to the first (it’s alright for what it is) and had an amazing soundtrack and felt more mature at times.
watched this with my family after not going to the movies for a while. we chose migration and honestly it was a pretty cute movie! i came out liking it more than i thought i would!!
@@SandsUnderthetable I watched in theaters because I wanted to see Godzilla Minus One, but my theater didn't have it, so I went with that instead. My brother and sister warned me that the movie was bad, but I figured it would at least have some stuff. They were right. The characters are cliche, like as soon as you see the father you know what character arc he's gonna go through, and it's done very predictably. The kids are just window dressing to look cute. The uncle is unfunny. The side characters were fine I guess, but nothing noteworthy, the climax is lame, and there is no consistent narrative, it's just scenes being stitched together haphazardly. It's a boring experience, and I would not recommend it. 4/10.
My girls wanted to see this in theaters so bad and I agreed to just have some fun with them. I wasn’t expecting much from it, just thought it was going to be a silly kids movie. But I surprisingly enjoyed it more than I thought I would lol
This movie surprised me by being like a 2007 Alpha and Omega/Open Season type movie yet in 2023. I just remember the weird Shark Tank promo feeling so awkward and forced.
the & animations & camera work & visuals & pacing are absolutely perfectly executed, even tho theres loads of scenes are illogical, it was ok because they made it fun, being creative is more fun then being realistic ❤
The thing why I love watching your every video - the conversations of the film industries. Anyway the movie was good. It was surely a film for families and kids mostly, but it wasn't a bad animated movie. Also the animation was really pretty and I liked its characters. It wasn't a pixar movie or studio ghibli movie suuree, but it was nice for Illumination.
I liked this movie. The plot was simple but well executed. It was fun, heartwarming and exciting the animation was absolutely stunning too. My favourite scene was the mallards flying in the clouds 🩷. Good job Illumination, i hope you can keep it up.
Migration might be the best illumination movie, simply because the story wasn’t rushed, the movie was funny, and the funny was visually amazing. All other illumination movies only accomplish 2/3, for me, this one accomplished 3/3 requirements 😳✨✨💅
Let this sink for a second. Illumination, the studio behind The Minions, can make a fantastic family movie, out of the blue. The most absolute random shit from Illumination is unironically one of the studio's best movies. Who would've thunk?!
I just assumed Ducks need some sort of "running start" in order to fly, or go in any diagonal motion, like they can't fly up and down easily. But how would I know.
This was a good movie. It’s not the best as I can see its faults but seeing it is an original concept, something that isn’t done as much and it to me, is funny, it was good.
My dad is the human equivalent of Hugh Neutron (nuts about ducks), so I'm thinking this is something we'll end up enjoying someday. Good to know it has the beaniie stamp of approval!
I saw this trailer at the theatre and I SWEAR I've seen this movie before, like this movie already existed from another studio with a bunch of the same jokes as the trailer... but like when I was younger. Like it's gotta be 10 years old AT LEAST but I haven't seen anyone else talking about it but I remember this movie already existing so clearly UPDATE: WATCH THE TRAILER TO YELLOWBIRD AND THEN RE-WATCH THE TRAILER TO MIGRATION
"The way they animate the ducks taking off looks so natural and meticulous it's insane." Bird watcher here and Mallards don't actually take off like that, diving ducks do the pattering on water before flight, while dabbling ducks (which includes mallards) just jump out of the water. :)
