I love their chemistry in that they are shown to be completely supportive of each other and affectionate as friends. It makes them leagues better than all the canon couples in media who are based on just attraction instead of having an actual bond.
@MotorOil235 It's not an attack on relationships that work and/or are also based on friendship. I'm clearly dissing the couples that that DON'T work. The ones that have no real basis in mutual support. I'm not sure what exactly you're finding so offensive about my comment since I never said any blanket statement. I didn't say that all canon pairings never work/are bad, just that there are lots of bad canon pairings and Mike/Julie can outstrip the BAD ONES even as a friendship.
Mike jumping out of a window because he knew Julie will catch him / Julie throwing herself off the pod because she knew Mike will catch her!! 🥺🥺🥺 i am unwell
This is actually one of my most favorite disney series couple, it shows how they really support and protect each other no matter how the situation can be, also a very good chemistry.
I remember loving their relationship when the show came out. But I also remember the fandom preferring Julie with Texas over Mike because "Main boy/Main girl sucks!" and I'm just like, "They're the exception tho!" Julie had WAY better chemistry with Mike than with Texas.
Uhhhg I hate the Julie/Texas ship. Like obviously this is a personal preference and people can ship whatever they want, but I will just never understand the appeal there. They have nothing in common and Texas is super disrespectful towards Julie a lot of the time. Like he can't even be bothered to remember her name? Wtf? And Mike/Julie is so much more than just a generic Main Guy/Main Girl ship. They understand each other so well. And he shares his fears and insecurities with her and confides in her in a way that he doesn't with any of his other friends. And you just know that if she ever confided in him about Kane being her dad he'd be completely understanding and accepting. You get the sense that they get each other better than anyone else could. But apparently none of that matters because "hurr durr it's a Main Guy/Main Girl ship so it sucks! Sure, Texas is a jerk who doesn't respect her enough to learn her name, but at least he's not the main character so it's not boooring!" To hell with that. Julie deserves better. Sorry for the rant. Good comment.
@@unknownjewel4815 No, no, thank you for ranting about it. I think the only reason Julie/Texas got popular was because fans preferred Mike with Chuck and wanted Julie to be paired up with someone else (either with Texas or Claire). Ya know, "Subvert expectations!" kinda thing. Even though none of those ships had any chemistry IMO. Honestly, the only saving grace from the show's cancellation is that those fan-favorite ships never took off, so... yeah.
True, true. I never got the appeal of Mike/Chuck or Julie/Claire either. Again, people are allowed to ship what they want, but personally I always preferred them as friendships/sibling-like relationships. Thing is though, even if the show hadn't been cancelled I highly doubt any of those ships ever would have been canon. Mike/Julie was always planned to be endgame. There are old official sources from early in the show's production that explicitly mention the two being in love and having a "Romeo and Juliet-esc" relationship. And the show's pitch bible states that they're "close, but not in a romantic way... yet." Of course things could've changed during production and the writers could've decided not to make them a thing in canon, but it's still something that was in the cards from the very beginning. So, I think if the show had gone on longer it's more likely that A) Mike and Julie would've ended up together regardless of what anyone was shipping, or B) nobody would've ended up with anybody because the show wasn't about romance, in which case everybody kind of wins and loses at the same time lol. Sorry for another rant. I love talking about this show. :3
Never seen this show before but it's giving 'Gorillaz' aesthetic with the art style Funfact: An animator from Gorillaz actually worked on the show n Mike's design was also inspired by Murdoc (makes so much sense lol)
6:15 I think abou this scene constantly. Mike really just skipped past checking in with Chuck and Dutch who are not at a HQ and also potentially in danger and just immediately jumps to find Julie, he could have called them but no Julie is the priority
Somehow I've never actually seen this show, this just makes me want to watch it! (It does seem kind of familiar though, but I've definitely never watched an entire episode)
?????? Idk what that other reply is talking about. There's 20 episodes, not just a pilot. And you can watch them all on wcostream if you're interested.
This was the video that got me to start binging Motorcity. I had never watched it, never even heard of it until I stumbled across this video randomly. Thank you for introducing me to this awesome underrated gem, and especially to the power couple that is Jukebox.
It only just clicks to me that Mike and Julie have the unique connection of being so emotionally connected to the big bad Kane. If Mike and Julie were truly on his side, Kane probably would have encouraged the two to be a couple someday, with the young man who was "like a son to him" being there forever for his precious daughter.
Julie and Mike are from the Disney series "Motorcity." It's a show about teens in the slums of future Detroit using their vehicles fighting against the oppressive regime of an industrialist named Kane.
I honestly hope that Disney makes a separate channel for older teens and young adults (kinda what Disney XD was supposed to be) with just a bunch of these older canceled cartoons and shows being continued
The Art Style was something that set this show apart from anything Disney did, but fuck XD was SUCH a shit block I missed almost every airing due to the timeslot being ass growing up. I know the production was expensive I mean LOOK AT THIS SHOWS DETAIL. Had this show been on CN it would have lived for 1 or 2 more seasons, Disney really, really, REALLY dropped the ball on Motorcity.
I want the series back, but we've all been asking for it for many years, I don't see that it can come back, especially since they cut Disney XD, but it's not bad to hope, I always hope that they can put it back on another channel on TV
Hate when these old Disney shows (mostly this and RC9GN) pop up on my fyp and i remember we didn't get the full story since disneys greedy ass decided they didn't want to fund a "failing" project
If i remember right there was a episode where they got stuck in a show for some sick guy forgot everything else but that episode was the best one i have seen
Bro when tf did this come out no idea how this flew under my radar 90% of my media consumption is comprised of cartoons and niggas on RU-vid seething about lovingly crafted ambitious animation canned unceremoniously... and another 4% is replaying demondays for the 414th time so seriously wtf how tho
This series look so good. I'd definitely gonna check this show out. I don't know why Disney canned this show. Just like when they did to Tron Uprising.
