This is the finest piece of music ever written. Mike is like Bach or a Beethoven, or like Haydn or Handel. He gives everything necessary to the music and finds the best musicians to bring it across in the live context. Truly brilliant and even more so, awe inspiring.
2019 Anyone.....?.... I've been listening to MO since the age of 6 in 1981..... None of my friends at school ever got him..... F***ing musical genius 💙
RIP Morris... Excellent drummer full of primal passion for drumming...constantly ommited in all rankings for best drummers...maybe not BoTB but with own signature... And this concert probably the best Mike performed... So much passion and energy on stage... Mike's music epic forever😊
Yeah platinum album the main reason why I became huge oldfield fan ages ago ..great to see Maggie again in this outstanding live performance....thanks 🌞
God damn, that bit at 7:45 gives me goosebumps. Mike’s always had his own signature melodic style, and that little solo right there is, to me, one of his absolute best. Quintessentially Mike, all the way. What an absolute melodic genius.
I used to think that his guitars were recorded at double speed because that shrill, frantic vibrato didn't seem possible from human hands. Then I saw this video.
J'ai eu l'occasion de le voir à Strasbourg pour cette tournée en 81 et plusieurs autres fois également en Allemagne ainsi qu'à Paris pour TB2 au Zénith. Bons souvenirs, toujours impressionnant en live.
Saw him live with Platinum, our favorite record in those days. When we started experimenting with hashish and grass and stuff. Man, this music was the best stoner soundtrack ever. My friends and I were sitting in the attic, so we could open the speakers!, and time just passed by - peaceful and in harmony, chatting about life. All day all night, great times. Actually I really miss it. Friendship was so innocent, we were so loyal to each other and so real, not just a click on a website.
I’m 25 and really wish I could have experienced those times. You guys are beyond lucky to have grown up when you did, wish more people my age had that mentality/perspective. Everything is so superficial now, not that genuine people don’t exist they do I just wish it was more the norm like in the 60s and 70s.
que gran talento Mike te dejaria que me tocases como tocas la guitarra eléctrica te encanta es la que mas te gusta de todos pues de nuevo digo tacame como a ella bien y repasame suavecito DEW Mike
this is one of my fav's of mike oldfield. thanks so much for posting it :)! (did drums and guitar play for one single time not fit within the begin ^^ ?!? ;-) ). i couldn't play or compose like that, anyway :) ;-) !!!
@patrickbellersen My best friend and I used to play Exposed hours without end in an old reel music player. These reels could play for 4 hours each, and once it could be played in both side of the tape, 4 hours and more were dedicated to Mike Oldfield. Ther emaining tape space was dedicated to Vangelis. We were pretty much into instrumental music. Loved every minute of it. Hope hearing from u soon. Jose
No, he don´t enter late in second change, he enters perfectly due to the original platinum disc. The others enters a little bit late, no him. But, agree with you, Mike Olfield is the best guitarrist of the history, a true god of the compositions and guitars
Platinum from 1979 must be underrated. But there is a reason for that, the reason is when Oldfield was going for the synth based thing, more vocals and lesser genuine celt music.
@hijisk hi there! If yr father has this treasure in the closet perhaps he has some more for you to learn about. see if he has Ommadawn album, Hergest Ridge and Tubullar Bells, If not, search the RU-vid for these.Great stuff. In myteens Mike Oldfield was my favourite guitar player.and his musc uplifting. Greetings from a Mike's fan inPortugal.
havr learnt the lead on this( regrettably cant paly it like Mike does but its close) anyone know what the chords are please? especisally the "take it away" jazzy bit?
@celebrityscience oh is that what happened? I've been watching this for a coupkle of years totally puzzled...knew it didn't sound right... Any idea what happened at 2:54?
@ColinBobbyDartford regarding the band being "spot on", if you're referring to that rather amusing bit at 1.20, that is entirely the drummers mistake who miscues. Four bars of 5/4, Morris (RIP) instead counts 4/4 on the last bar and throws the whole shebang off. As for the rest of the performance, I think everyone is pretty good really, Mike included.
