This instrumental song was recorded in the Swiss Alps within sight of Lake Geneva as well as whole album Discovery..this place has had the main influence on this ultimate song.
8:48 - this part was wonderfully sampled by Noon for Pezet/Noon - "Ukryty w miescie krzyk", an awesome Polish rap song. Check it out. Oldfield's music always was great, even when used as a cut-up sample.
I found out about this band for the exact same reason - a russian hip hop band used the same sample for their song or mb even took the Pezet remix, Im not sure. If you’re interested to check it out - its
bizarre,,,can dimly remember travelling thru the middle east in the innocent 80s listening to this album..i remember hearing mike on the radio in a market in Haifa...crises i believe, thanky for this nostalgia break!!!!!!!!!
So that has been a really long time, you've been searching for this. I absolutely agree..this piece is one of the best Mikes compositions I've ever heard, if really not the best one. You're welcome.
Ha, me too... the first time I had it on, I was in my uni-box room with the volume up loud - that part hit, and I nearly died from shock. This song brings back those memories and has completely shaped me - def. his most underrated piece.
ONLY YOU MIKE YOU ARE THE ONE WHO COMPOSE THIS SPACE MUSIC AND MAKES THE MIND TO RUN OUT OF THE GALAXY TO SEE OTHER UNIVERSES WITH THE SPEED OF LIGHT. YOUR MUSIC PERFECTION FEEDS OUR BRAIN AND MAKE US BETTER. PANOS FROM GREECE
I really love the "Discovery" album. Listen to the solo in "Discovery", the bass line in "Poison arrow", Maggie's voice in "Talk about your life"... and "to france" and "the lake" are perfect.
Hi tutanchamon1 !! Mike Oldfield is my all time favorite musician. I don't know where he get it from, but the man is a pure genious when it comes to music. "Discovery" album are one of his best released albums, but, might i say, that crisis,qe2 and ommadawn are some of his finest works also.. Thank you very much for posting this fine music..
@Szederp.. You are absolutely right about the emotional part of this composition! This is where Mike Oldfield really shows his talents in a solo that says everything, and can't be forgotten! Tutanchamon1 are not to blame for doing his best for us to listen to this 10 minutes of (still beautiful music) version of The Lake although we agree, we miss the last approx 5 mins of the number...
I Love Mike Oldfield since i was a youngling, well as also a fan of Tolkien whenever i heard this song for some reason it reminded me of Elves and Rivendell and Middle Earth,Plus one of my Ever Fist Strategy Games:Yhe Lords of Midnight,Please make a new video containing the entire song please!good work though!
Wonderful pictures and great, great work from Mike Oldfield. I really sorry, that the most beautiful part of this track is missing. But thanks for the uploading tutanchamon1. Peace...
Wow - great upload... this is the best track from Discovery!!! It just invokes so many emotions... Can see his instumental talents blazing through when you listen to it in comparison with the rest of the album. It's a real shame the ending was cut off, as it's just the most amazing collaboration of sounds imaginable.
Discovery is a great album of Mike Oldfield, my favs are Poison Arrows, Discovery and of course the Lake - especially the final part. (I have chosen this section for my High Tatras 2 slideshow) The pictures you selected are great as well.
Hi Tamas, Discovery is my favorite album from Oldfield and Poison Arrows is No.1 by me as well. That time I have uploaded this post there was a limitation of 10 minutes for an upload, so I was forced to cut my full version..unfortunately, YT terms... Well, thanks for viewing and have a nice day.
@ColinBobbyDartford let me tell you this,I met Mike in Edinburgh and he was the nicest, most down to earth millionaire,multi-instrumentalist composer of modern times I've ever met.
Tutanchamon, as much as I respect you for putting this song on RU-vid I must say that I can hardly understand what you have just done! You arranged a beautiful video only to EXCLUDE THE FINAL, MOST BEAUTIFUL, EMOTIONAL PART OF THE SONG!!! Why, oh please tell me!
Hi karstenmp, thank you and yeah I'm also confused when thinking about, where is this guy taking so much power and inspiration to perform such a great music..he is a genius, no doubt and of course albums like Crises , QE2, Ommadawn are incredible too as well as AMAROK, which is my top...just got Music of the Spheres..one worth MONUMENTAL.. You're welcome and hopefully I'll post some another songs soon..
@NICKY752 Nicky if you wish full version..... I think its still in my PC somewhere. That time there was a time limitation... 10 minutes or something for 1 upload. that"s why. Originally I made full version. I'll upload full version soon ;-)
loved this piece back in the day. check out the related less well known number in the pool, similar but also very good. best of all songs of distant earth. (read the book Aurthur C Clarke) it makes it all so relavent
@OMA2k I've seen him from just a few meters of distance treat pretty poorly a fan who just humbly asked for an autograph. Also, he didn't attend a fan meeting *he had already agreed to attend*, back in his NOTP 2006 tour. He left his fans waiting for him and the NOTP organization had to cope with that. Not what you would expect from a serious professional musician.

Hi Szederp, thanks and you are right!! I've made whole video, but there is a limitation of 10 minutes lenght you can maximal upload..you can imagine how pissed I was after I've realized that alhough it fits with size of the file..its too long...!!!
:) this was exactly my first reaction when I found out that although I made whole music video...it was too long. YT terms of use that time..max 10 minutes......max 100MB, YT ToU now still 10 minutes:(....max 1GB..as soon as they will extend the runtime, I'll make it whole once again, I promise;).Maybe I'll use the remaining runtime on some of my new videos.
I like the contrast between this from 1984 and Crises in 1983. Crises has a sort of futuristic sound to it, whereas this is more serene. I like Crises slightly better but this is not far behind.
You certainly knew I'm french because of my english faults... "il est inutile de Vex" : I was not offended, don't worry (Why should I had been?). Regards
:))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Lacherlich :D Welt is wunderbar.....Guten morgen
@triffiks Trust me, you don' t want to meet him ;-) He might have done a lot of great music but the guy is kind of a jerk with his fans most of the time.

You killed this song ! Cutting off the very end - classical Mike's climax - is something that I can't understand. You spoilt everything - even if your intention was to keep the listener interested with hiding the best. It did not work. Congratulations - you ruined it... Oh my...
