Mike you’ve been an outstanding role model for kids all around the world, I remember being 12 years old watching dirty jobs singling along to the intro music lmao, I can’t believe we are lucky enough to keep getting content like this. I’m positive I’m not the only one that feels this way thanks for doing what you do Mike!

Mike, I studies Physics and became a physicist doing radiation exposure safety inspections on healthcare facilities throughout Western Europe. I truly loved my job…Until I watched Dirty Jobs… I retired, moved back the US, bought a farm, sheep and hay…then I bought a tractor and started growing my own hay, added rabbits and chickens a garden and suddenly I’m living off the labor of my own hands! Thanks Mike. You’re making a great difference.

lol you mean you made TONS OF MONEY so that you could play farm. sorry but most real farmers live very hard lives struggling to be overtaken by large corporate farms.
@joelspaulding5964
@joelspaulding5964 Год назад
@nnbnbnn That is a choice. The initial investment always comes from somewhere, family, bank or savings.
@Kyosumari
@Kyosumari Год назад
@@nnbnbnn You don't need to be a corporate farmer to be a "real farmer" and that kind of gatekeeping isn't helpful to anyone. Anyone who raises livestock, takes care of the land, and supports themselves with their own crop and resources they grew or raised themselves is a farmer. Im not sure what the point of your comment even is - you come off as if it's somehow looked down upon to earn money at all, which makes no sense. it takes money to make money, investment is a thing, and that's not unique to farming... are we supposed to look down on OP because of what you said or what? So someone is farming for themselves and their own happiness... why is that something you need to shit on exactly? I'm not really understanding what your goal here is. It definitely sucks that smaller farms that do things right are often pushed out by the corporate greed and need to see big numbers, but that's not OP's fault, not applicable here, and certainly not a reason to hate on someone who's just living their best life. I'm pretty sure shitting on the smaller farmers isn't how you encourage equality for smaller farmers, not to mention that level of "ReAl FaRmErS" nonsense might just be making that situation worse - imagine if more people did what OP did, and like other countries and like in the olden days, raised their own food. The need and market for big-wig ran farms raising food for the entire nation would arguably grow smaller as a result, don't you think? So again - what was the point of what you're saying, exactly? Your tone sucked balls and you just seem salty that someone was more successful and happier than you. You don't have to make everyone else miserable just because you are.
@viscache1
@viscache1 Год назад
@@nnbnbnn you demonstrate your obvious ignorance of what a physicist makes and your elitist attitude of what only someone who has farmed all their life is worthy to do. I’m sorry that you are so closed minded as to think you are the only one putting in a full day’s work or struggling to make ends meet.

What makes America, Murica is people that think that collectively Americans just don't give a shit and what you demonstrated so well, lack of grammatical skills. That is what you are describing. If that is what you think America is, no wonder we are in the mess we are in. What makes us great, collectively, as a species and as Americans is making things better. When you can say that America isn't perfect, that she has always had serious problems that linger today but that you are willing to take her hand and help her get better. That is what makes us great. Americans - plural not possessive that's - contraction for that is You forgot to complete your motto, "makes America great" - again. We can tell by your grammar that is what you mean. Not just men with penises, either. Men as in humans! Lady of the femme variety here, Hi there, and ALWAYS loved Mike Rowe and Dirty Jobs - that era of Discovery television dedicated to learning and fun in one, not just Dirty Jobs, but things like Mythbusters - and coverage of unsung heroes and curios was a family event - I bonded with my mom over those programs, and gained even more knowledge and reason to respect the trades and the backbreaking work that goes on every day to make our world run. I think its a universal good deed to anyone and everyone who has the inclination to stay and listen. But I have to say, you have a good point - I think Mike Rowe being the Bob Ross/Mr. Rogers of Trades is an apt description!

This is fantastic. One of the main reasons I don't eat a lot of meat is because of the way livestock are mistreated at factory farms. While I personally couldn't ever raise an animal for slaughter because I'd get too attached, I very much appreciate that these animals are given a good living environment and treated kindly. If these conditions were the norm, I wouldn't have any problem eating commercially available meat. Mike, I was just a kid when I started watching your shows nearly 20 years ago. Was watching avid where a guy was trying to grow a lot of food in poly tunnels in Southeast Alaska. Not a productive way to spend ones time as the return is very small as there isn't enough sun most years to ever get a decent harvest. Having spent seven years living in the wild in southeast I learned that one of the biggest factors to surviving out in the bush successfully, i.e. not suffering more than necessary, is to learn to spend ones time on the MOST productive way. In southeast alaska, using what grows naturally is the most productive and tasty way. There are dozens of varieties of good edible plants and dozens of berries to harvest, as well as shrimp, crab, fish, venison, bear, beaver, moose, blue grouse, and a large variety of the best eating of all, wild mushrooms. Rather have ten pounds of big yellow chanterelles than a few pounds of fish or red meat. One benefit of mushrooming is that one has to go slow, pay close attention and take ones time, which means running into a lot of animals as well.

As an Iowan i would love to see more farmers breed similar pigs to sell through either their own farm or through the local butcher's, however Politicians will side with with those "big 6" producers, mostly due to potential job loss if that ever takes off, or gets a foothold. On one hand, they claim they are for Iowa Farmers, however they don't do nearly enough for them. This could bring back the smaller farmers throughout the state instead of the trend for the past 30+ years of mega farms due to being forced out of farming, those farms bout out, etc. all so they can make it and not go bust. When Corporations get their shareholder driven sticky fingers into things it is all about quantity and not quality.
