Here are a few laps from an afternoon session on old tires at a David Murry Track Days event at Road Atlanta. Trying to set a data lap, but there is a lot of traffic. The fast lap starts at 3:55 and still has a bit of traffic at the end.
Just curious, when driving the SR8, does it feel a LOT faster? Thinking of doing a track day in one, the guy that will rent one charges pretty much double for the SR8, wondering if it's a one off, is it worth it? For someone who has limited but not negligible track experience
It definitely feels a lot faster. If you have limited track experience, I'm not sure I would advise renting it to be honest. An SR3 is still quite an experience and takes a bit of trying to trust the downforce.
Thanks for the insight. i also have the option of going the more traditional "supercar track day experience" and renting a Gallardo, 430 or (what I would choose if i go this way), a 458. I'm guessing you think that would be more rewarding for me based on my experience? I have been on track in a few non super cars, including Mustangs, a Mazdaspeed 3, and an M3.
Closest thing to a true high downforce experience I have had is an F1 Simulator with a professional driving instructor (ex race car driver from group C era), and he was impressed and thought I should get into more track days/racing, but obviously whatever I go with here will be my first real launching point from something casual to something a little more serious
You are wasting the time and money, you have no car control and have no idea how to brake, rotate, accelerate and many other things which never though at any HPDE since they do not know how to do it as a professional racer. Stop been a cafe racer, as novices like you are called in Italy. Buy a decent shape NC or ND MX5 cup Miata, get SCCA, NASA racing licence, hire but only a professional race car driver - coach (however, still not most of them good to teach) and in a couple years if you have some racing genes and do at least 12 weekends in a season and never miss the Test - Practice Day you might get a bit faster car, also do drifting and in a few years you might try some really fast cars and maybe you would be able to control that car sliding in turns having no any car stability computers ON, braking for a corner in twice less distance than any HPDE "maser", trail brake, get in the corner early with higher speed and accelerate early, and etc. and you will control the car, not the car computers without their help you are not able to drive, learn to be fast, not modifying the car to be faster. Never miss a rainy day, push yourself and you will have a blast, but you also could go as the majority and modify a car, go fast on straights and parking at the corners barking before you even "see" the corner, etc and never race in a rain, it's easy and still you can brag that you are a race car driver.
