This song manages to be both motivational and sad at the same time. I love the message - if things don't go right, or it doesn't work out, it's not your fault, and don't think you're not worth it. It's just not the right time or place.
The hidden gems are just that. Hidden. For the few to discover. Maybe because these special treasures call out to those of us who are able, innately, to recognize a unique combination of both voice and music that calls out to our soul. We have the gift of knowing where the gems lie in the desert.

Takes me back to a beautiful time in life which is long lost and I can never return to. This was the first song at our college valentines dance. Song came on and all the couples on the dance floor with the lights and mirror ball. Wish I could go back, such an awesome time with amazing music. Thank you Mike & the mechanics for the memories.

Personally to my own taste I would rate this as one of the most beautiful ballads ever written in british pop. I'm always amazed how music can bring emotions or energy to your heart and mind. Probably paintings or other arts do too but I always come back to music to ease my mind and body. Although this is a sad song about people parting ways or not being able to find a common direction for whatever reason - we all lived this at some point in our lives - I listen to it whenever I feel down and the beauty of it wonderfully sung by Paul Carrack lifts me up and recalls that we should appreciate every tiny little moment of life even in this maelström of difficulties that is living - there is a Time and Place for you to have your dream
Unbelievably moody and bittersweet. Heartbreaking yet motivational. Ugh!! Absolutely brilliant. It's one of those songs that takes me back to really emotional memories. The bridge is UNBELIEVABLE. And Paul Carrack--come on!
I'd forgotten all about this song, until I got their Greatest Hits CD, this is such a beautiful song, it takes me back 30 years to a time when life seemed much better and more uncomplicated somehow.
This is *hands* down my favorite song from Mike + The Mechanics! "A Time and Place" just gives me *goosebumps* whenever I listen to it. *Especially* at 3:22 when that guitar riff kicks in!

I remember when having a tape player in your car was staye of the art, the ultimate entertainment and I remember sitting in my car just listening to my Mike & The Mechanics album tape over and over, not being able to decide which was my favourite song, but I realised I couldn't pick just one because they were all my favourites! Every single one... Even though this is a slow song, it's really hopeful and is really great inspiration if you are feeling a bit low. It makes you feel that really it's ok, things dont always go right. Just don't give up. Live and learn as it might be your right time, place or person tomorrow. Just do what you do, enjoy what you have now, there's always something round the corner. Keep dreaming.

Sheffield alone has had a lot of great singers. Joe Elliot, Jarvis Cocker, Phil Oakey, Alex Turner….but IMO Paul is the best singer Yorkshire as a whole has ever produced. Makes me proud to be a Yorkshireman.
Another less known fantastic British band was Budgie , absolutely a fantastic band who sadly missed the bus ! I absolutely love them and another great British band I adore are Wishbone Ash and Yes!

Paul Carrack is one of the unsung heroes of rock music and jazz and I think it is a bloody shame in my book !He is one of the guys who made British music numero uno in the world !!!I can say because the best bands were British , Beatles , Rolling Stone , the Who , Genesis , Moody Blues , Deep Purple ,Led Zeppelin , Rod Stewart , Cliff Richards , the Shadows ,Bad Finger , Sad Cafe ,Screaming Lord Sutch , Tears for fears , Duran Duran ,The Pretenders , Simple Minds and the list goes on forever !
