I’ve been using a GSAR (except with the steel bracelet) as my every day watch for the last couple of years. It is my adventure watch. I’ve worn it SCUBA diving, camping, playing in my Jeep Wrangler, etc. If you can do it, then it can do it.

This watch actually has an NSN, so if your unit supply has the funds & is willing to order them, you can get them through the supply chain

True story. That's how I got my TSAR. I still have it 14 years later. Was it a waste of money to issue TSARs to all 10 of us going on that deployment? Yes. Am I grateful that I benefited from a mild mismanagement of USASOC GWOT era equipment funding? Absolutely.

Im active duty Marines and the Gsar is my go to. I love the watch. I love the tritium and the rubber band is very comfortable. Got mine as the arctic version used for $850 and couldn't be happier with it. I average about 6-10 seconds off per week! The movement is very accurate for a mecahnical in this price range

Random Rob here on YT did a review of the GSAR. It was on loan to him from a friend who was on active duty for several years and wore the watch during his deployments. The GSAR is my daily carry you could say. Its all I could want in a mechanical watch. The accuracy is well within ISO specs, losing only about 4 seconds a day. The lume on the tritium is fantastic and very convenient during the night. I've dropped, bumped, and dragged this watch many times with no visible or adverse effects.

I've had mine for well over a decade, and still runs flawlessly for me. Tritium is still plenty bright, and even as a beater, their steel takes damage better than any Rolex I've see. Though I've been running a bracelet on mine for most of it, I will say that there's nothing quite like the vanilla smell of that natural rubber strap 😂.

This review is exactly what i was looking for. I got my Arctic TSAR last month and its quickly surpassed my Zodiac SSW 53 as my new favorite piece. It’s nice to hear a service member endorse Marathon.

I have had the same watch for ten years. When I first got it, it would stop. Sent it back in, and customer service was GREAT, eventually provided me a new watch, not a glitch since. I do think they make diver's watches with bigger faces, as well as an arctic with a white face ion that is what you want. I prefer the black like the one I/you have. Great watch. I might also add as a mechanical, you can't get tracked by your watch. If you are wearing a GPS theoretically if you know your position, someone else can know it as well. If you carry a separate GPS you can always turn it off once you get your bearing/position. Besides, if you can't navigate with a map and a compass, then you could be in trouble in war or during a SHTF scenario. Since I am retired now and not as active (movement winds the watch) I got a "winder" - you put your watch in it and it turns it now and then, to simulate arm movement to keep it wound. Have it on my desk, and can't hear it. I suggest you get one - several are on Amazon and they are about $50.00. The watch is nice and I also wear it with suits and all dressed up.

Hey brother, Mike Jones aka Garand Thumb has a TSAR as his duty watch and did speak about wearing it on duty. It’s pretty beat up. I’ve had a TSAR since 2011, wear it every day as my only watch.

Can’t speak to the GSAR but I’ve got a JSAR I’ve beat the crap out of and it keeps going. Don’t have it on active duty but from what I’ve seen it would be just fine.

Interested to hear what you think over time. I've been eyeballing one of their TSARs for a while now. I wore a more traditional watch for a long time, but recently joined the garmin gang. I miss having a "real" watch on my wrist, but haven't resorted to double watching just yet.

It’s not an either or thing between analog and smart watches. They’re two distinct kinds of watches that complement each other. One is high tech but is battery charge dependent. The other is lower tech but requires no power or charging and can operate in extreme low temperatures. Batteries typically fail in very low temperatures. I’d get both as part of a well rounded setup.

It's going to be a little bit longer before I do an update. My last video was over a month ago. That doesn't give me enough time to test and confirm if the watch is viable in real world use.

Former Security Policeman and disgruntled fan of the Seiko Diver's watches carried in the BX for many years. I discovered that my body chemistry disrupts the mechanical watches ability to keep time accurately. Years after quitting on the mechanical watches I found that I also disrupted the Casio digital watches. I no longer wear watches but I did wear pocket-style watches for many years. Finally because of cell phones I stopped buying watches altogether. I find myself wishing that Marathon would put your military issue watch in a pocket watch chassis.

@@PreparedAirman enlisted, when half of your -E-5's and below are on food stamps barely making ends meet with their families. That's your "AVERAGE" military. Sure officers could probably afford this or maybe your special teams.
@PreparedAirman
@PreparedAirman 3 месяца назад
That is false, my guy... 90% of the financial issues younger troops face are user induced. meaning bad spending habits... booze, party's, expensive cars, no saving plans or accounts and much more. I've been an NCO for over 8 years. I've mentored ALOT of troops. "Barely making ends meet" is very often their own choices. Most troops do not qualify for food stamps because they have housing allowance (BAH) or Barracks provided to them. Not to include BAS for food. Sure, more money would be great, but realistically, it's poor decisions made on the behalf of themselves for alot of the issues.
