I am an older guy that got turned on to Seiko's when I was in the U.S. Army overseas in the 1960s. The base exchanges had all types and makes of watches. Even on Army pay, I could afford a nice Hamilton or Omega. However, when I saw my first Seiko Automatic, I was hooked. The quality and materials were excellent, especially for the reasonable price. It is still the same today, over 50 years later. With a Seiko, you get a lot of BANG for the BUCK!

Hi Cody. A diver's bezel is in fact used only keep track of bottom time. Reference a dive chart prior to going down and based upon the depth of your dive, you may have 15-40 minutes of bottom time to avoid decompression stops and especially nitrogen narcosis or even worse, the 'bends', which is when you can develop evolved gases (small bubbles) in your tissues and joints.

Cody, this was an excellent review and history of your watches. I’m glad you found your grail watch. It’s hard to beat a Seiko! One little thing I’d like to mention, the use of the bezel on a dive watch. I also thought it was supposed to be used as you described, until recently when I found a video done by a diver which clarified it for me. The correct way to use it, and this makes sense, is to decide how much time you’re going to dive, subtract that number from 60, and set that number at the minute hand. This way the minute hand counts down until it gets to the marker on the bezel. Most dive watches don’t have lump on the bezel, except for on the marker. So you know you’re out of time when the minute hand gets to the illuminated marker. Thanks again for an excellent video with a lot of great information and for being transparent that this is just your preference! 👍

Nice! I've started wearing a watch again. I can't have a cell phone at work for security reasons and most workers wear watches. For the last year my watch of choice is a Seiko Solar, love it! Never have to wind it, never have to replace a battery, keeps perfect time and tough! Look into them, will run for something like 6 months off of 2 hours of direct sunlight. My Dad is a big fan of those automatics, I got him a Seiko 5 automatic for Christmas.

A good watch with a long history is always the best watch. I have had my (issued by AF) Seiko dive watch (analog) for almost 35 years. It has been treated rough having hundreds of freefall and regular jumpes, low and slow helicopter deployments (sometimes high and fast), dove deep and swam unknown miles. I don't wear it often now but it "keeps on ticking" (to steel a phrase). I swear by the solid strap and the watch has stayed with me with only one pin several times. When my watch goes to one of my grandsons I hope he keeps it ticking. Thanks for reminding me to tell them what the watch has been to me.

I've got a Seiko Kinetic divers watch, known by collectors as the BFK. It came with the stainless band, I don't like those rubber/silicone ones either. Wasn't expensive. The kinetic watches are sort of a hybrid between auto and quartz. It has weights in it which charge a tiny battery, and the battery drives a quartz movement with a 6 month (no wearing) power reserve. Accuracy is typical Seiko Quartz. Not for someone with a small wrist though.

The reason for the extra flap on the 4 ring natos is that when you pick up your watch from the short end of the strap the watch cannot slide off the strap. This is possible especially with heavy divers. So it's really a feature for safety while putting your watch on or picking it up. You can also hang it up on a nail by the buckle and the watch will be held fast.

I work in the EMS field as an EMT. ( Pre-med student ). I wear the Casio Men's F108WH, and bought it when I first started. Its $15 on amazon. I just recently replaced the one I had for 5 years. The reason why I replaced it? Because the band loop stay broke, not even the band, the little rubber loop that holds the band from flopping around... and a replacement one was $8 + $4.49 shipping. So I just bought a new one.. and have the old one incase I ever need any parts from it. Casio makes a great product. The best part is that if it breaks, its $15. If it gets blood, vomit, fecal matter, etc.. on it. I wipe it down with the hospital bleach wipes. Anyway, great video!

@@bingrusginckle g shocks are measured from the widest point as far as I know. my rangeman is measured from the protruding tripple sensor and it's corresponding button from what i can tell. I don't believe the seiko is that way. when it comes to comfort there are also other things to consider. One of these would be the weight. I can't be bothered to look up the tuna's weight but i'd wager it's more than most G's on account of it being primarily metal.

I believe that with the 4 ring NATO bands, the two inner rings are designed to get attached to a custom kit (two end pieces that interface with the spring pin and the metal loop and the watch directly attaches to. They are overpriced IMHO and like most Swiss watches these days, they are made by Swatch (who also own ETA)
@stellarpod
@stellarpod 6 лет назад
ck m: To suggest that an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean has anything in common with Swatch is laughable. The Co-Axial chronometer movement is an *in-house* movement and, by all accounts, is one of the very best, most robust automatic movements on the planet. Expensive? Yeah, I'll give you that. It's very expensive. But, to try and equate it to a Swatch watch is absurd. Steve
@ckm-mkc
@ckm-mkc 6 лет назад
www.swatchgroup.com/brands_and_companies - read it and weep - Swatch has owned Omega for decades and Omega movements are nothing more than modified (some more than others) ETA movements, which Swatch also owns. I personally don't think that there's anything wrong with that, but you can get other watches with ETA movements made by the Swatch group that are equally good and much cheaper, like Mido, Longines or Hamilton. Inside, they are all essentially the same, with ETA or ETA-based movements (yes, I've restored more than one...). There are a very, very small number of movement makers left, with ETA (owned by Swatch) being the biggest - but as of 2016, they have stopped selling to non-Swatch brands. And of all the major, well known watch makers, only Rolex makes all parts of their movement in house (also overpriced IMHO).
@stellarpod
@stellarpod 6 лет назад
ck m: So, according to you, the Omega Co-Axial 9300 movement is nothing more than a "modified ETA movement". Really? Can you cite some evidence of this? Can you point me to any ETA movement that shares the same architecture, or another watch of any label that uses remotely the same movement? And finally, I challenge you to cite a single ETA movement that is "equally good" as the 9300 movement. School me. Steve

If RU-vid really had taken down his video, you can bet there'd be a 'Furious Rant' video in response. The sad thing is, WS makes his living off RU-vid, but decides to use them as a scapegoat for things like this...

Wranglerstar , awsome to get lost in your gadget appreciation . I have to say, I purchased a seiko diver, skx quartz in and around 1986ish. Have the box and recipt somewhere. Have had the battery replaced not more than 4 or 5 times and did a battery replacement myself a time or two. It does not gain or lose time to this day. Although the hands and dial do not really glow anymore and the black bezel is more like greyish from wear. Kinda cool to see they still make these although , in an automatic version. I get the romance of precision machinery and alure of technical innovation of a mechanical movement. But at the end of the day I guess I am a little practical in a sense that I just want the time, and to be the correct time , no matter. Year after year, for my everyday watch. I will splurge on a mechanical at some point, but it is hard to get away from reliable. P.S. my first watch as a younger man , was my fathers bulova accutron wich I used to hum myself to sleep under my pillow. If I could get that analog style sound back, in a quartz watch , that would be the beez kneez.

Really glad to know of these NATO style bands. When there was a clearance on Timex canvas bands, bought the few left because love how they breath compared to a leather band (my everyday watch has been a Timex as what Dad and Opa wore, but now know not the same, though lasted about 10 years). Even better is not having the metal back making a sweaty spot. Also makes a flashy watch not so flashy (why haven't worn the Swiss watch I was given ages ago, as afraid of getting robbed). Another excellent video, thank you.
