Milling an ugly pine log on a Wood Mizer sawmill.
In this video I mistaken call the Cooks Dura Tooth Super Sharp blade a Cats claw blade. Oops.
Here's the link to Cooks:
cookssaw.com
In this video I mill a Southern Yellow Pine log. This log was part of a batch of yard trees that were given to me for free. Today we take the Wood Mizer LT15 sawmill and make it into siding boards. This ugly log turned out some beautiful lumber. The Kubota L4701 and grapple is proving itself invaluable for milling as well as other homesteading tasks.
Cooks Saw was kind enough to send me a box of blades for free. Today we use a Dura Tooth Super Sharp.

As pictured in your video those large blobs of old grease that are displaced by new grease are left hanging onto the machine. I found that using a pressure washer removes them promptly each time I re-lube my tractor. And that beats getting it on your clothes, your hands or all over whatever they drop onto. Plus it gives you an excuse to break out the pressure washer and have fun with it. And by the way, a bit of Lestoil in the water helps remove the sap from the blade and makes it last longer. Less sap equals less friction and less heat. The heat causes the blade to lose it's set quicker. Hope that helps. I like to use a gang saw for ripping slats on planks like that. That "blue stain' in the wood is mold and it's called spaulding.

I like how well your setup is coming! As an engineer, I think it’ll be helpful/safer if your sawdust was able to fall into a trough with a metal grate over it.
@andycobbcobbbroslogging7125
@andycobbcobbbroslogging7125 4 года назад
Bill Boger Hey Bill. I have a 15 Go just like Wes’s. And one thing I wish that was better is the sawdust exhaust. They do make an extension that carry’s it to the ground. Probably helpful. I hang a5 gallon bucket over the end of the exhaust on mine and keep a Rubbermaid trash can toward the hitch end of the mill. It’s easy for me because I can dump it easily not far from my setup. It fills up fast but keeps the trail from piling up fast also. It helps on dust being in sawyers eyes, clothes, etc Got to deal with it ether way. I have seen a few other brands have the controls on the right side of the head. When I watch mine from the left side the dust is bad on the eyes. I just chalk it up to , “that’s Sawmilling”. Maybe Wes will let us know his thoughts on it. Yal b good.

Hey dude, love your channel, keep em coming. I have a suggestion, not a "your doin it wrong, do it like this" lol, just a hey try this and see if it helps. Trust your grapplers lol. In stead of going around the log to put a log on the mill, tilt them down and keep the points even with each other and only grab the light half way down and clamp it tight. Try it in the open yard before dropping a log on the mill lol. That's how I do mine and I'm able to put the logs on there super gently. I did notice how fast/jump the hydraulics are on that clamp, unless your having issues with the tractor running hot, the hydraulics are just about as strong at an idle as they are wide open throttle but waaaaay smoother. Just some thoughts from a wanna be Sawyer to a fellow Sawyer.

Hi, I've been a fan for ages, ever since you started virtually. I enjoy every video and can't wait to watch the next one. I do have one problem though and that seems to be the complete waste of wood by just burning all the scraps on a huge fire. I am sure there are lots of other uses for it such as using it in your wood stove, or donating it to other people for burning in wood stoves, giving it to campsites if there are any, or even any local carpenters/joiners etc that could probably use a lot of it. Just me thinking out loud really, but it does seem an awful waste of wood. Anyway, keep up the good work and much love to you and your family. Greetings from Scotland, UK.

Have you ever considered adding a slab pusher to your saw.? You make a pass and when you go back it would push the slab out and drop it onto your tractor bucket save handling just a thought. Also I commented on raising pigs video and got a comment back along with a respond and receive a gift. So someone is messing with the people that watch your videos Stay Safe
@falllineridge
@falllineridge Год назад
I try to block those guys, but they just make new accounts. Thanks for letting me know. As far as the pusher goes, this mill won't do that. It's just a simple rope and pulley that pulls the sawhead through, so there's not much extra force available for that. I have seen mills with that feature and it's cool.

Now that you have your sawmill under a roof structure, you can install a block and tackle from the roof and use that along with some straps around the log to aid in turning the big and heavy logs your milling up. Should save some manual effort even with the really long cant hook. I'm sure now that you've got a tractor with a FEL and grapple you wonder how you ever got by with out it. Certainly almost as good as hydraulic loading arms on the mill.
