Hi Dr. Klim, I purchased a small private practice about a year ago. The previous owner had an MCXL (I use the 12s bur) and primescan and the patients are accustomed to same day crowns. I also have the speed fire oven. I have spent $$$ repairing the now 11 year old MCXL (I've replaced all but 1 motor at this point) and am looking to replace it. Would you recommend buying another MCXL due to the ability to use the smaller 12 bur or the primemill? Or would you recommend I switch to one of the PrograMills PM3-5? Thanks in advanced for your advice!

Food question. The Primemill performs well for zirconia and straight forward posterior ceramics. The Primemill EF bur ceramic mill is exceptional. The one hiccup is over mill for lower anterior applications and conservative anterior preps. The advantage of the MC XL is the 12 bur in Fine Mill. The Primemill does not do as well with Fine Mill due to left bur size of 1.4 mm. However, the Extra Fine Primemill is exceptional on margins and is fast and is what I us for posterior onlays etc. I am moving to the PM7 and Exocad for conservative anterior applications in order to avoid the over mill issues and Exocad has superior anterior design proposals and workflow for Aesthetic designs, starting from virtual diagnostic wax-up through the final restorations. Anterior ceramic applications can be accomplished with the Primemill, however, it requires a more aggressive prep style. All the best in your decision.

Hello James, How can I avoid shrinkage in emax crown on an implant abutment after crystallization and staining. Currently before crystallization and staining the margins are looking good. Also do u recommend ivoclar staining and glazing kit? Thanks Sushant

Make sure there is good spacer. I think there is a video on this site that address this. I use MiYO 850 over the Ivoclar stain and glaze kits. It works better. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VQPUt_Y4MVU.html

What are your thoughts on Tessera vs Emax, now I noticed Emax less prone to fracture which suprised me due to the fact Tessera has 10% zirconia in it.

Whenever I look at a new product, I gravitate towards independent studies rather than the manufacturer's ones. Zirconia does not always mean strength. It is crystal size. e.max has a larger crystal size than some of the other LD on the market. I look for fracture toughness over flexural strength for performance parallels.

Hello . How many units did you do for same day service?
@KlimDDS

It depends on the case and the patient, and I usually stop at eight, sometimes I’ve done 10, sometimes I’ll place a provisional, then bring the patient back the next day or so, most of the time, it depends on the aesthetic demands and how long a patient can stay in a chair.

I thought you recommended marginal thickness of +100microns to avoid chipping? Is this no longer the case or does it not apply when using EF milling?
@KlimDDS

Good point, 50 mp just for the Extra Fine mill, 100 (+) mp, which is now the default for the Fine mill.

Yoni, do you use the Extra Fine mill? I have for years and it is a game changer. A lot of our colleagues don't have this option. For Fine mill, then 100 (+) um margin parameter will improve the outcome. Back in the early days with the compact unit, I would use a 160-200 um routinely and then polish the margins back after the mill. The Extra Fine on the Primemill is almost as fast as the Fine mill. A lot of users out there do not know this; the mill is significantly better for margin, proximal fits, and occlusal anatomy. Extra Fine mill is the only ceramic mill I use on the Primemill. If I need to Fine mill, I prefer the MC XL with the left 12 bur, it is a better mill. All the best my friend. I appreciate your posts and energy on Keep CERECing. And thanks for the shouts.

@@KlimDDS Thank you for that! Unfortunately I do not have the ability to extra fine mill (I have a mcx) at this point in my career but maybe one day I will! Thank you for making your online course so accessible! It was such a huge confidence booster for me. The more people who know about it, the better! 😁
