I have a survivor, 1986 SR5 Toyota pickup with only 145k miles, incredibly low for its age. Very simple and easy to work on, great for learning basic mechanical skills. Love it and hope to keep it as long as CA emission laws allow.
Another excellent video! I feel as though cars are only getting harder to work on. Wish we could go back to the basics that Toyota clearly had figured out!
@6:15 changing timing belts my ass! Both engines had timing chains, the 20R had a double row chain that was way better than the single row chain in the 22R.
Interesting...The owner mentioned replacing timing belts, but he probably meant chain. I didn't think to fact check the statement and assumed it was a belt. Good catch!
7:10 I think that explains why Sachsenring Trabants' last so long, they're on the opposite scale of reliability however, at least as for reputation. As far as maintenance is concerned just add quality oil to the gas and drive it everyday until something breaks.
