Pete I work for the City of Raleigh, Public Utilities Department. At our treatment plant we make a product that is used for agricultural purposes for PH adjustment. We also make a nitrogen product that is liquid that we use to grow crops for animal consumption. Sometime when you are in Raleigh if you would like, I can give you a tour of our facility and show you how process works and how the products are made. Not the same end product as Milorganite but process is basically the same.

Good video Pete, I am a milorganite fan myself here in Texas. I use a lot of it because it promotes a thicker and darker green color in turf. And it doesn't promote loads of top growth like most synthetic ferts do. Good test plot and follow up, thanks.

Great looking lawn! I've used Milo for about a year now and it does great. I used it as a warm season fertilizer and the reduced nitrogen helped keep the stress down while supplementing the soil with other amendments. I'm hooked on it no matter how stinky! PS I'm with you on the 4 inch mowing! Makes it look Fuller, not over grown like some people think it does

Milorganite is awesome! Cheap too at $12 a bag and 1 application I noticed a huge difference between the green in my lawn vs my neighbors. Just did and early last fertilizer as I wasn't going to have time the next few weeks or so. Is it the best? For what it is yes, but there are better nutrients and stronger better ferts out there. The reason its the best for what it is is because its natural and safe. No burning issues or concerns with synthetic fertilizers that some folks have. So cheap, easy to apply, safe and it works. Great combination!

I've used Milorganite for years and it works well. I have to add a fertilizer with potassium in it to make up for the potassium poor clay soil we have here. The iron in it makes a lawn greener and I don't have to worry about burning. The problem now is just finding it. It's too popular now.

Got my back yard thick with Titan Rx, even in dense shade areas. Love the look of Turf Fescue it’s got that silver back. Match my silver maple’s leaves. But what I want to know on the mowing: getting an even cut with how it lays down and swishes with the length the blades have at 4in. Like making turns and that little bit bunches up....what if there was a “Comb” attachment you could put on the front of the mower so that when going over those spots that lay down the comb will bring it up and ensure an even 4in cut

Big fan of MiracleGro w sprinklers, perks up thin spots, great for grass, shrubs and flowers too....but never overdoing it, usually 4-8 weeks between applications. Use vintage MiracleGro sprayers w hose connections on input and output sides, hope this is helpful for ya!

@TheJamestat2
@TheJamestat2 6 лет назад
I just learned about Milorganite at the begining of this year. I thought "What the heck! It's organic. Throw it down!". So I did. I LOVE IT! I bought this house Nov 2015. It was built in '53 and has not had any (I mean ANY!) type of organized lawn care regimen. It actually sat empty for 1 1/2 years and the guy only came every two weeks and mowed. Not taking care of the landscaping not removing leaves nothing but mowing (and badly at that)! Okay so putting out $10K for a down and moving and blah blah blah I haven't had a lot of funds to do what I want as far as the lawn goes. I've done some over de-thatching and over seeding and what not but not to my satisfaction. So! Along comes Milorganite! I threw it down heavy four times this year along with some well placed synthetics and SHAZZAM! My neighbor directly across the street is retired and thinks his s*** is a premo lawn! He was laughing at me while I was putting it down in +85 temps this summer! He had and still has no clue! He and my other retired lawn nut neighbor are strictly "weed and feed" nuts! Anyhow I have the most dark green grass (and weeds) in the neighborhood! LOL! Cut to the chase! It's awesome for the microbial activity in the lawn! BUT! It's the slow release iron that really does it. Being high in OM with the carbon it helps chelate and hold the synthetics from leeching thus promoting healthier and more vigorous plant growth (both turf grass and weeds unfortunately). Also a couple of aps of Ironite don't hurt! LOL! Yeah; In a business environment (cost to return) it doesn't add up but for the homeowner looking for a foolproof and easy way to "dominate" with their lawn and to look out for the health of their little plot of soil it's an awesome deal. God bless!

@Mikeoz196
@Mikeoz196 6 лет назад
Yep I'm a big milo fan myself. I've been using it for 1.5yrs after using weed and feed crap and there's no going back. I just did my first full strength milo app a few weeks ago since overseeding and I'll be damned if my yard ain't "dominating" the neighborhood. lol On more than one occasion I've left the handle to "on" on my earthway spreader and had a small mound of it on my grass. I just spread it out and no harm done. If it's a synthetic, no doubt I would've killed a small patch. It's amazing how terrible the average lawn crap is at the big box store and how so many homeowners don't know any better.

I bought such a House and the Whole Front Yard was Weeds.. So, I Sprayed Weed and Grass KILLER On it of 10% acidty Vinegar, Sea Salt and Dishsoap in a Hose end sprayer( went organic since I'm on Well Water system) after 5 days, rotirtilled it, then went and sprayed it a 2nd time, then covered it in landscaping under layment, held it down with large Staples ( but both at the Home Depot) Then I had 10 yrds of nice Brown mulch brought in and had him dump it in 4 places on the former lawn.. Then the wife and i spent the next 2 seasons selecting Bushses, Bulbs and Flowers for our new front Landscape Yard.. Including 2 trees.. She Enjoyed doing her landscaping and Gardening, as did I.. Later Added Low Voltage Lighting and I use a Dye on the Mulch, so I don't have to buy more Mulch and avoid that hard work of laying it down everyother year..
@brianvillage9649
@brianvillage9649 5 лет назад
I honestly don’t even care if I have some weeds in my grass as long as it’s patch free and green. If you’re patient for a couple seasons and pick out the big ones, keep the grass healthy and long and practice good maintenance the grass will eventually take over in a northern setting.

You don’t need aggressive watering with milorganite. In fact you’re basically rinsing it away by watering too much with it. I lay it down only a couple times a year and I don’t need to water except for maybe once or twice a month. With other fertilizers you do or it’ll burn out your lawn. It’s hard to make myself not think my lawn won’t die if I don’t water it but grass doesn’t require a lot of water. Weekly or bi weekly thorough watering is pushing over doing it.

U Don't cut till after its 6 inches tall? GOOD FOR YOU! Wish I could get my Summer Home Owners ( most are them in my Neighborhood, like 9 out of 10 homes are. So whenn they do come up to their homes? They will cut that grass/weed mix, so its only 1-2 " high.. They give it a CREW CUT! Sp it will last for 2 wks! If I have enough? I will Go over to their Yards and Fertilize them! I use Jerry Bakers Tonics of Epsome Salt, Beer, Amonia and few squirts of Dishsoap. I go to our Local Feed Store and buy the Farmers Blend of Epsom Salts in a 50 lb bag..( We are On a Resort Lake and surrounded by Farms) several Feed stores around here.. and alot of Gravel Driveways..Mine is a Double Wide.. I use 10% Vinegar with Dishsoap and Salt.. Regular Salt..(Not Epsome Salt..) Sometimes Sea Salt works good. I make a 1 Gal Mix for my Hose End Sprayer.( Making extra) . I will then go take my neihgbors Garden hose, turn on his water and treat his Driveway..I usually have enough to do 2 driveways.. I am retired and want to show these Younger People how to maintain a Gravel Driveway and a Lawn.. Most Never have been shown and they appreciate it.. Normally takes 2-3 yrs for them to go thru the complete cycle..then they do it on their own. I also give new Buyers ( These summer homes Have 4-5 Owners in their Lieftime) and give them my Page of Tips to Know for their Home.. many never had Well Water, nor Septic Tanks systems, nor Don't have landscapers doing this Lawn for them, like their rich homes do..

I have. Gives it a nice dark green color as they both contain around 3% iron. Also, the milo won't burn you're lawn.

Can't handle a 4" cut. Like turf to look like the fairway not the rough. Hard to walk through a yard like that...

Steve Willey simple for me to walk in it. You must have Bermuda if you’re cutting low???

Bluegrass or fescue looks better short in fall and winter. Kids can't even play soccer in 4" turf. Ball won't even roll on it at 4". Have to pick up your feet high to walk through that. Looks like you could lose a small child in your grass.

Steve Willey funny you say that friend. I have 3 children. 12 yr old, 11 yr old, and a 6 yr old special needs son. We get many, many, many hours of use in our 4 inch tall fescue. Never had any issues whatsoever. But, we don’t play soccer either. My special needs child loves laying in the yard- he says “daddy, it’s so soft”. Man if I scalped my yard he would probably have an issue with that! 🤣🙈😂

Steve Willey also on my channel ALL opinions are welcome. I’m glad you like a short cut lawn. That makes us different....and that’s perfectly fine friend 😎

I've personally found 3.5" to be a good middle ground. 4" is a little too tall for me too (especially when you're in the thick of growing season and cutting at once a week it's at 6"+). 3" I've found to be a little short in spots especially where there are uneven spots in the yard and don't want to scalp it.
