Finland, like all Nordic countries, is a protestant country. You have to understand the protestant and even further on, the Lutheran mindset. We are by design modest people. We do not gloat or show off our success. We do not feel confortable advertising our little quirks. We value hard work, family and, especially religious folk, God. We fight tooth and nail when our borders and threatened, but we do not make a fuss about our military strength, one of the strongest and most well prepared in NATO. We value honesty above all other virtues. Honesty, is the key to a safe society with low crime rates. Slava Finlandia!

Better name for the Happiness Report could be "Life Satisfactory Report"

AI generated videos can be so wonky. And always have to say that happiness doesnt mean the amount of laughs and smiles in the context, but quality of life, amount of corruption, access to food, water, health services and education, social safety nets, crime rate, &c. And Finnish people are in quite (well actually the most) happy position regarding those. You can pretty easily and happily live your whole life never having to think "what if..." Having access to education, and if you go unemployed or loose the ability to work, not a biggie, you dont have to turn to crime or go to beg in the streets.

The ice hotel is fully booked every winter. Why would you use money for advertisement, if you are fully booked regardless? You need to attract enough people, not all the people.
@tonibufu6103
@tonibufu6103 3 месяца назад
4:55 It's about money. When your hotel (which rebuilds every year and also costs money) only gets a certain amount of paying customers, it means that only a certain amount of money accumulates, which then goes to hotel maintenance, salaries, etc. and advertising, as much as you can afford advertise. AND how you advertise ice hotel, is challenge, and that ice hotel is advertised more to tourists, because Finland also needs income from tourism.
@HyperUTS_official
@HyperUTS_official 3 месяца назад
There are snow hotels at least in Kittilä, Rovaniemi and Kemi. If you lived in Rovaniemi, you'd think differently about the tourism and advertising Finland and its "gems". Every year the town is more crowded with tourists for like 6 months of the year. I mean, mostly I like it and it brings money to the area, but every restaurant is packed full and tourists often cross the highway, make it difficult to walk in stores as they stop in the middle all the time, go to people's yards without permission etc... Not to mention the environmental effect by all these masses of people. tourism comes with its problems. I hope Rovaniemi won't become like Venice where it's difficult to live ordinary life because it's so crowded and full of luxury shops, not normal grocery stores and all apartments are turned into hotels or airbnb's.

Actually the part about the bear is wrong. The bear was sacred, yes. It was the vessel of the forrest god, Tapio. After felling one, you were supposed to hang it's skull into a pine tree and hold a huge feast to honor the bear and Tapio. You can already see there from where the Finnish practical thinking comes from. The Forest god's form (the bear) was considered as a gift for the people to stay alive.

The wife carrying competition has an interesting history. When Finland was comprised of only small tribal vilages, men sometimes stole wifes from other tribes. They literally went in during the night and took a woman by force to be married. They understood the importance of avoiding incest, something the European royal houses never did to this day. 😅😅

Elementary school and secondary school are actually free (and compulsory) so that everybody has an equal oppoturnity for education. But we pay for it with progressive taxation. Maternity box is also equal start of life for everyone. But im interested to know what makes you think it is not free?

We had blood pancakes at school in regular intervals. Never tasted them, the idea of eating blood is revolting to me. Läskisoosi is HORRIBLE... slimy, fatty meat that is not good enough for anything else. Scraps in a stew. And "viedään saunan taakse" does not mean shut up. It is a threat, behind the sauna was the place where livestock was slaughtered. So, if someone says that to you, it is not just simple "shut up", you need to start looking behind your back.

Finland can't advertise its nice spots, they are already so crowded. No Finn believes anyone would like to visit them if there re a lot of tourists and stuff! No you had to go and spoil the Icehotel, too, by being so impressed by it. 😀 (Finns whisper about the places worth checking out!)

I didn't just pick things from my ass, like you. It is NOT clear where it came from and "suo" as root word is most likely not the explanation. The word "suomu" is one possibility, which has nothing to do with "suo" either. At least we know where the word Finland comes from, from latin "fenni".
@Randomizer939
@Randomizer939 3 месяца назад
@@squidcaps4308 Still bullshit, multiple references, they just know what it is directly referred and can't confirm it. I think we can find quite many similar countries where you can't find the exact moment someone chose the name to be something. "Origin is unknown and it's mystery why it's still used" when there are several references where it possibly derived centuries ago, but since it's not written in stone, nobody knows. To be precise video, maybe mention about those where it might have come from and not just skip it in 3 seconds....
@squidcaps4308
@squidcaps4308 3 месяца назад
@@Randomizer939 Look, it is obvious that i have actually read about this prior and you are just talking about what you THOUGH was true. A lot of us did think that it is the obvious explanation but... The studies have debunked most of the old explanations. It is ok to not know but to call bullshit what academia has so far found is just stupid. Remember that since this myth is very widely "known" you will find tons of search results that are really equivalent of "i think it is", just like you did. Now, have you or have you not taken time to read about it? Wikipedia is the first place to go, and do not say "but wikipedia is not reliable". They are sourced, you need to go and read them first. The simplest and truest answer is "we don't know for sure" but we know quite for certain what it ISN'T: "suo" is not the origin word. Like i said, it is ok to not know everything. I didn't know this but few years ago.

It is AI voiced video, the bottom of the barrel stuff. And yes, that happiness report is starting to become annoying. This is just less shitty place and the idea of what happiness is is quite modest. If you are not sick, don't suffer from hunger then you are ok, and ok is about the same as happy.
