The solo singer was born in the beginning of continuition war and those older men were last remaining veterans of Finland. I dont remember the exact number of those veterans but it was something around 2000. Also those who play the orchestra are finnish navy band. I like the way they have combined the veterans and the generation born during the wars and also the younger generation aswell.

You talked about being looked at… but you were not clear and concise with “how” they looked at you. I got looked at by white people on the train in New York USA (with no emotion attached). While in another part of the USA I got repeatedly looked at by white people and I clearly felt that same feeling you get when someone is about to through a punch at you.

The evolution video is not that great. It does feature some key moments but completely misses a whole lot of it, especially the art / backpacker stuff from the late 90s - early 2000s. It also doesn't have any of the female artists. It switches too fast and picks weird snippets from some songs, like just a couple of seconds from the chorus.

Have to say, finns really dont care colour of other peoples. We dont look that kind of things. We dont care our or others looks other ways either, like clothes. That just what kind od we are. So if somebody looks you, they are only interested to hear your story where you come from. Like that swede said earlier, people would look even if you would be white. Because they would still want to know your story where you come from. It has nothing to do with skin colour. You know what i mean? And personally I'm really glad that you are here in Finland. I love watching your youtube videos, thanks for those. 😊

Then we have 6 month sun shine when we don't sleep without booze. But we have sauna, s.., and exhaustion. Finland have been North Europe's most violent country. Russian have attached us regularily, killing all elders and children and take youth as a slaves to Russia. We are here in our own bubble. And we are Happy for every single day we are alive. So simple is the thing.

I've said before that Nordic happiness is largely about being satisfied with what you have and not constantly chasing something better. We are satisfied with less and enjoy what we already have. I thought I was in bad shape when I was walking with the dog outside and out of breath. In the end, the situation got so bad that I had to go to the hospital. Now we are thinking about a lung transplant. I say this because if you are worried about your health, go to the hospital. It's not that expensive here. And at least you get the information so you don't have to worry. Peace of mind is important.

the happiness score estimate the extent to which each of six factors - economic production, social support, life expectancy, freedom, absence of corruption, and generosity - contribute to making life evaluations higher in each country than they are in Dystopia, a hypothetical country that has values equal to the world’s lowest national averages for each of the six factors. They have no impact on the total score reported for each country, but they do explain why some countries rank higher than others.

You know Gio, you have Sisu! Lots of it for sure. You have it in common with the Finns, so explore that some more. I don't know exactly about Sodankylä, but some local person actually knows, so ask around. I have suggestions for you, IRL (or online to startwith). Devide your year into four sections as Finns traditionally (and often unconsciously) do. There is June, July, and August - these months are the exception from any rule; life is not normal and kids and students have summer vacations, and Finland only pretends to function, but in reality anything serious is postponed, for pure enjoying life so much. Then we have the season for new beginnings: September, October, November. The Finnish names say it all, September is autumn month (Syyskuu), October is the muddy, slushy month with bad road-conditions (namely Lokakuu) and November is the month when nature seems to be dead, gloomy and depressing, Marraskuu, the name based on an old word that isn't in use anymore. Fall is a season of transition, from leisurely summer with bright light, to Christmas with all the tingle-tangle and candles and artificial lights. It is a very busy season, when you pick up new hobbies and tasks, and you keep up with the old ones, there are traditions and also innovations. You need your planning calendar every day. What are the sports locally - would you join a club, as indoor sports are huge in Finland? Why not take a seasonal job in the Santa-village, they are busy preparing. Start berry-picking, or Aurora Borealis-spotting, or crocheting, or renovating wooden furniture, or prepare for ice-fishing, learn on a course or do "learning by doing". Keep busy. Join a local party, choir, fire-brigade (rescue brigade), or a cooking class. Do ask about Revontuli-opisto, info in English on their web-site, the new term starts now - anybody can take the initiative for a study-circle (study club or meet-up) consisting of laypersons, so if there is something you are interested in, just tell them! You can become a leader of such a club, too. Next are the three longest months, IMHO, December, January, February - each is different, and family-traditions play a big role for some. December is Xmas month (Joulukuu) and there are lots of events, like "fairs"(markkinat) where you could be inspired to pick up a hobby for the rest of the year, because people are very creative, do look around. In January (Tammikuu, Oak month, you need to be strong and make use of your sisu, as in perseverance. It is dark, but each day is less dark than the day before. Time to start a new term, and learn something new. Maybe take a trip to southern Europe, for a reduced price, and prepare it well, studying culture and language. Many sports have tournaments, many choirs give concerts, many firms celebrate their "pikku-joulu-juhlat" only now. February at the latest you'll start your tobaggoning career (laskea mäkiä), some start with a piece of cardbord, some with some simple plastic device, some with something more like a pro bob-sleigh (kelkka). You need to go to a long icey slope, and look for yourself. Then you celebrate the speed with "laskiais-pullat" cosely at home, these delicious buns, which you even can bake yourself. Mars, April, May, are spring months in name only, and for the most unhappy ones in Finland the worst depressing season. So it has to be proactively approached. Planned well ahead. Finns are huge planners. Bad road-conditions in many places to take into consideration. Sauna and cold dips give sisu to some. Others start planning the growing season, with seedlings on the window sill. Others plan for summer holidays, maybe they'll offer bed and breakfast in their homes in the summer, so they are busy preparing for that. Maybe you'll go to a Summer-university, and have to study in advance. Maybe you intend to visit all nearby out-door dance-facilities in the summer, so you have to keep up your groove and brush up your dance-steps, tango especially. Or train to run carrying some 50+ kg (100lb) weights over brooks and stones, so that you might have fun at a wife-carrying contest - Eukonkanto-kisat. The world championships are in the beginning of July 2025 at the Sonkajärvi "arena" (a joke), and there are vicarious wives to lend for the wifeless contestants, just for fun. Prepare with videos on RU-vid, it is both ridiculous, good cheer, and very serious. Finland is never boring, just join the fun or interesting things, that non-boring, active Finns enjoy.

Beyond personal happiness, it also means what the society offers. Dummy example of failing in business, getting in debt and losing your house. What's the worst thing that can *really* happen? Well, at worst you get to live in goverment paid apartment with unemployment money and still enjoying free healthcare (I know healthcare is a mess nowadays but still). Catch a breath and maybe go back to school study something else, for free. Being in the same situation for example somewhere in Oakland, you'll probably be doing meth at streets. And winter is not that bad. Spring always comes, and nothing beats going to hot sauna after cold winter day and watching aurora borealis.

Wintercycling is twice as heavy as summer. Rolling resistance is the biggest difference, the rubber tires behave differently in the cold. First is the most common mistake: checking tire pressures in a warm room. The moment you go outside the gas cools down and its volume gets smaller, and pressure drops. The problem then of course is that if you check pressures outside and then store the bike indoors... it'll be overpressurized once it warms up. So, there is a compromise that you have to make, fill it up to the maximum indoors and just suffer from low pressure tires. The upside is that you have a bit more grip and ride comfort from slightly under inflated tires. Then there is the rubber itself, it gets stiffer while pressure is low, so you have to fight thru the tire deformation more. And last, all the lubrication needs to be winterproofed... Everything gets stiffer, but basic, cheap chain lube will be just fine... until you hit the -20C, and then things often start to go down and fast. But, even when it is winterproofed lube, you will still get a tiny bit of added resistance. After getting an ebike.. i used to hate winter cycling SO much.. You have to dress for the weather and then push like crazy, sweating and then getting cold. Or sweating indoors for an hour after cycling, in your thermal pants and shit... But, after getting an ebike.. i love winter cycling. It takes all the added resistance and eats it up, so i actually do have less pressure on my tires, i keep them close to minimum for added grip and comfort (i have a rigid bike, no suspension). I do have 40 Finnish winter with a bicycle behind me, and 38 of those.. i fucking hated. I do lose half of range in the winter, but that is small price to pay, also, below -24C.. ebikes start to struggle and if it is stored outside for more than an hour, it might not even turn on anymore. I have had to push mine once, at -27C.. that was not fun, i had to take several breaks just to catch my breath and avoid hyperventilation... Ebikes are not so light to push..

Maybe you could even do a skiing vlog next winter :D I hope you the best and enjoy Finland!

As a Finn, I have learned to appreciate our country only as older. I hated as a child how introvert and shy our culture was, but lately it has changed I think, Finnish have more confidence and are more open. Finnish are friendly and big part of happiness is a lack of hierarchical thinking. But our justice system is bad in my opinion. Criminals get just a pat on their back and a warning don’t do that again. Sentences are shortest of the world. Accused have a wide variety of rights too and that is why they are not many times judged at all. Alcohol is also an excuse to do crimes. That is so weird. Many criminals stay on the loose causing a lot of trouble. Court cases are superficial too lasting only 2 h max. They don’t give enough time to solve cases. But the crime rate is still pretty low maybe because of social security? I admire American court system although people without money are judged wrongly. The most violent criminals belong to jail for the rest of their life but that is not a case in Finland. They are not even monitored at all and can apply to most jobs without anybody knowing they have a criminal record, which is a good thing in some cases. But after 5 years to all jobs.
