This is true for many cultures. As an African American, whose family was born in Virginia, we would eat fried chicken and waffles [Now all the rage with everyone, we always ate this from Grandmama and Great Grandmama's breakfast table ] , smothered pork chops, steak and eggs, etc. for breakfast.

You should watch this guy hiroyuki terada on RU-vid lol I've made the mistake of not eating before watching his videos or late at night, and ended up very, very hungry. Also watch Food Wars! $1 banh mi has to be one of the biggest things I missed about Vietnam. Here in the states; the same banh mi, which in my opinion tastes sub par, runs me about $5.50 to $6.50.

Gotta love how Mike almost cries with happiness to express foodie heaven. Bahn Mi is magnificent. They are hugely popular in Melbourne. First their baguettes are awesome because they put a bit of rice flour in it to make it light and crunchy. Each place makes it in their own particular way. Delicious meats, crunchy pickled veggies, fresh herbs, mayonnaise and pate with delicious sauces with a touch of fresh chilli. Vietnamese food has lots of fresh flavours and herbs. Broken rice is delicious too.

Man, I discovered your channel a couple of days ago and all I do is watch your videos. I am salivating like crazy and I wish I can eat what you are eating. It doesn't help either, that I am 4 mo prego. It reminds me so much of the time I spent in SE Asia. I am living in Denver and we would need some good ethnic food here. I am Romanian and my hubby is half Thai, but I love Asian food more than anything in the world :)

I really envy asian people for this kind of food! Living in Austria you have like not even a handful of staple dishes every restaurant offers, most of the times tasting bland and/or outright bad and most "asian" restaurants serve dishes which always taste the same no matter where or what you eat! A. Leigh It's a science thing. If you eat a ton of food you put a lot of glucose into your system. Your body wants glucose and overnight all that glucose is lost, so you end up in the morning being very hungry despite eating a ton.

Vietnamese street food nowadays is mostly not as good as you think. Vendors used cheap or low price materials/ meat to keep the price down and make greater benefit out of it. So, customers end up consumed outdated meat/ seafood with lots of chemicals to keep it looks fresh. Well, not all of them like that but it's scary a lot

Where did you go in the US? There's tons of pockets of Vietnamse communities all over the US. For example, Texas, California and Louisiana for example.

Oh man you brought back so many food memories! I miss the rice and pork dish! There was a desserty rice dish my cousin made . It was sticky rice with coconut milk and sugar with what looked like black beans with more sugar and coconut on top. That was heaven.

I grew up eating alot of these foods but some I have never tried. Being Vietnamese American, I spoke much less Vietnamese to my parents and mostly only spoke to my family. Thank you Mike for sharing these foods and making me feel wayyy better about my Vietnamese.

I love the watching the videos where he travels to Southeast Asia. I’m Vietnamese, Lao, and Thai so I appreciate that he is highlighting the cuisine I grew up eating. Mike you definitely gotta try more Lao cuisines though! Definitely try out khao soi, khao poon, khao piek, mee kati, nam khao, laab, Lao sausage, and Lao jerky!
