Our forthcoming eurorack modular complex oscillator will be available in mid 2019!
Here is a juicy bit of audio with some cool vector animations generated from the audio outputs! This is #1 in the series. We'll be uploading more audio and video tidbits as we finish getting the module into production! :)

I have been low-key crushing on Stacey since the Mutant Bassdrum. He just seems like a really cool guy I think.

Thanks! Me too! The sounds right now are being generated by a very ugly and highly unstable early test prototype, which is why it hasn't been shown at a trade show yet. But we're nearing the point of having the _actual_ prototype soon, and it should be getting out to demo artists and seen in the wild in 2019. Very excited for that. I've got some awesome artists of various backgrounds who are keen to take it for a spin in different musical contexts, so there will for sure be some good overview content to see, in time :)

can't wait for this one. very promising! very curious about your approach to a complex OSC and how it turned out.

Admittedly I was a bit ambitious with the first release date I had planned. Some unexpected turns were made to make the module better overall, and that has consumed most of the past 9 months of development. But it should be making it into a production prototype as soon as some more minor things are nailed down!

don't worry about a bit of delay with the release. So much more important to have a great module, than toss some bullshit out quickly. If it's good, it'll be relevant for years.. nobody will care about these few months in the future. There's just too much bullshit out in eurorack at the moment, so I really appreciate you taking the time to make something worthwhile.@@hexinverterDOTnet

will the black plastic face plate have a lot of flex or be pretty sturdy? Also has there been any reason for the delay of its release? its been teased for months now, is there any problems keeping note tracking using phase modulation vs fm? We don't see many analog phase modulation modules, so I'm assuming the testing period has revealed interesting conundrums. I definitely want one though, alias free phase modulation? Sign me up.

Hey there! Happy to answer your questions :) The faceplate is made of translucent fibreglass (to allow the lighting to work). Plastics wouldn't be the greatest, especially not acrylic for the whole panel, since the chemical bonds break down over time and become brittle and snap with many of the types of plastics that would be affordable. Of course we want Mindphaser to outlast anything :) The fiberglass is quite sturdy, but of course it is a bit more flexible than aluminium when you are talking about just the panel itself in your hands with none of the other stuff on it. This is however countered by the fact that all of the full size controls/pots are sturdily mounted to the panel with nuts, as well as the jacks (we don't use "nut-less" pots for the main controls - so there's no shaft wobble and they are firmly bolted to the panel). With a panel layout this dense, the actual flexibility of the material isn't very apparent, and it creates a rigid body with all of those nuts holding it in place. It is 30HP wide overall. That is a good supposition! Interestingly, most of the conundrums I encountered had to do with trying to stabilise the CEM3340 in a "free running" eurorack VCO application. As it turns out, it's sort of beating a dead horse. The 3340 was very much designed to be under microcontroller control at the CV inputs, so performs quite awfully in terms of temperature drift over time as compared to any modern eurorack oscillator, without every CV input going through a microcontroller and being compensated over time for the drift that will happen (the polysynth keyboards that used the 3340 all had microcontroller compensation algorithms in them to fix this). So after extensive testing of workarounds I had to eventually throw in the towel with that idea and work on a new ultra-stable core. All of the testing, repeated attempts and minimising the drift, and eventually reworking the inner workings (for the better), ate up a lot of time. But that's as it goes in electronics development I suppose :) The phase modulation is something I definitely encourage you to try out before tossing out your digital TZPM stuff. Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, analog PM does in fact exhibit its own distortions and oddities, which you may or may not find pleasing :) Of course you can filter it out with a VCF if you like, but in the idea of keeping things additive/raw, there isn't one built into Mindphaser. I would have to say, in my own experience, if I were to compare the sound from Mindphaser to say, a DX7 (which was in fact doing TZPM in terms of its algorithms), I would describe the DX7 as sounding cleaner, and the Mindphaser as sounding grittier and with its own oddities as you sweep through the full PM range. While there is no aliasing of course, the raw waveforms generated in the digital domain are more "pure" than analog, so it's kind of a funny juxtaposition when you start doing PM with them the way Mindphaser does. I think it sounds unique and cool, but it definitely is a different sounding creature! Anyway, forgive my babbling, hope that answers your queries and perhaps explains some stuff :)

Thanks for the response, yeah, people love analog filters because of the unique character, so if this oscillator exhibits its own inherent character then that will be awesome, something you can only get from the module itself, and has its own identity.
@hexinverterDOTnet

@@catscanmeow :D Awesome! Totally agreed there. I hope the character gels well for you when it's out there and you can give it a go! Have a nice rest of the weekend and let me know if there's anything else. Cheers!
