Finally it's time to reveal to you the full details of Mindphaser! The latest complex oscillator/audio signal generator in the eurorack modular format revealed - bound to hit shelves in 2018 from Hexinverter Électronique.
We've been working hard on this one, trying to perfect the user interface and design for performance-oriented setups. The entire UI is designed to be intuitive for musicians performing in dark, stage-lit environments as well as making it approachable and fun in the studio for all sorts of clangorous analog FM and PM sound design!
All analog, precision triangle cores, thru-zero phase modulation and linear FM with plenty of waveshaping and voltage controlled performance features! This is no classic waveshaper design.

It's refreshing to see an actually innovative complex oscillator design. Phase modulation is a really tricky thing to pull off. Routing, modulation sections and toggle-able inverted CV attenuators are a really nice touch. Great graphics too. This thing is cool!

Thank you for your kind remarks!!! The hope is that the major UI overhaul we worked on from the early concepts in 2017 creates a more inviting interface (despite its complexity...our early renders were really intimidating looking in comparison I think). A big part of that was doing away with the regular "centre = zero" bipolar attenuators with this solution. It can be tricky to "play" the CV attenuverters in a dimly lit performance space when the centre of the control is zero - it's hard to find "absolute zero" in the centre when you want it, especially in a complex signal generator which is very sensitive to modulation coming in from the Mod Bus/et-al. Turning them into switchable full range controls made so much sense suddenly! Much appreciated that you dig the "mini features" we've tediously tweaked over the previous months!

Hellooooo there Amoeba! I should have some good news this fall. I've made some improvements to the design and massaged things around some more over the past months. The final pre-production prototype should be landing with me in late November or early December (hopefully sooner) for intense evaluation before production, then from there I'll have a production date. Don't want to spill anything else in case it gets delayed but it is VERY close!!! Can't wait to have it ready. :D

The sad part is it won't be there in "person" yet...just the Mutant Brain. The UI overhaul took so many design iterations and work (the past 3+ months) that the "real" prototype isn't ready for Superbooth in time. Ah well! Next event, yes!

That's not sad at all. Makes me feel better about missing out on superbooth. Anyone who knows about it will wait :) looks like you have done an amazing job. I am sure the Mutant Brain will do great, I assume it has a super powerful UI that can make it do whatever is needed.

Hey, cheers! I'm glad you dig it. I was impressed when I heard what my friend did with the cobbled together early prototype too - but I can only say that as I didn't have anything to do with making the track other than providing the Mindphaser ;) As soon as final pre-production prototypes are in artist hands sometime soon I should have some more bangin' tunes hopefully also qualified to tease the cochleas as well!

En fait je cherche un son qui se rapprocherai du 259..et surtout le 261..Le Mindphaser est analogique en partie?

Oui! Le Mindphaser c'est vraiment analogique! Les VCO cores, waveshaping, TZ-PM et tous les autre choses. Je pense que le son c'est différent que le 259 - but this is by design :) We did not want to create something that is a "replicant" but rather something new, totally different than anything out there! Bien, ne hesitant pas si vous avez plus de questions!

Very interesting! I wonder how many independent solutions there are to phase modulation in analogue circuitry. With the FM Aid, you basically feed the carrier input a sawtooth wave, that would be used like a phase accumulator, and any other signal to the modulator input and it would generate 4 wave-shaped outputs. You could also just send a signal into the modulator input and rase the index and it becomes a wave folder. Tell me, are the triangle, saw, and square wave outputs along the bottom of the carrier oscillator affected by the phase modulation input?

Ahhh! That sounds similar in principle. The triangle, saw and square outputs on the Carrier are *not* affected by the PM. So the linear FM on the Mod Bus happens separate from the TZPM in the waveshaper. TZPM happens inside the waveshaper, along with wavefolder feedback and the extra waveshaping through AM/diode shaping in the final waveshaper stage. So I suppose in that case it's a bit more like the FM Aid than other implementations. True thru-zero PM is indeed achieved in "rampoid mode" (the mode switch on Mindphaser) and does work kind of like a phase accumulator, yes!

Well, I think this looks and sounds amazing and when you mention AM/diode shaping I know I would have to have one. Phase modulation and AM/diode shaping, These are like ALL of my favorite things... except vactrols, if mindphaser has vactrols smoothing on bus modulations I might pass out.

Many thanks! It can sound warm and analog but it's also wild and crazy. I would say a little more on the wild and crazy side (but that's how Hexinverter does it I think). Analog TZPM has some very odd character to it as compared to say, a digital PM implementation. Well I am pleased to say that you can remain conscious for today (grin). Sorry to disappoint, at the same time, but there aren't any vactrols in the design. However, as the AM is *full range* from -100dB to full euro signal level (many 259-y complex VCO waveshaping sections aren't quite full range AM, and always make some sound out of them), it means the AM input responds *very* well to curved/slewed envelopes and modulation for making plucked and percussive sounds.

The Mindphasing is getting very close now! It will be seen at Synthplex in about a week, and then Superbooth after - ship date TBA, but should be not too long after Superbooth that they reach dealers :D We'll be making a lot of noise when they're a comin'. Apologies for the delay, had to rework a lot of stuff over the past year on it, for the better. I now hold in my hands the first pre-production units after all the inner reworkings and it's just a matter of finessing a few parameters and adjusting some user interface variables to get it ready for full production!!!
