Java Players: If you would like to know approximately how fast your horse is in meters per second, the formula is as follows: 760 / (sticks) Thanks to @Micado257 for simplifying the formula I had here originally :) Also, if you are on Bedrock, redstone can sometimes work in mysterious ways on that platform, and players have reported results that are wildly different than what we see on Java. We're not sure what the fastest horse would score, but results as low as 26 sticks have been reported.
For anyone having trouble the minecart always pulls items from the chest regardless of powered or not: make sure it's an activator rail not a powered rail!
Speed of horse in BPS (Blocks Per Second) = 380 ÷ Number of items in minecart. Its not explained in the video, and i think is the most important part. Its accurate to within around 0.05 seconds. Eg, 89 sticks from walking it would be 380 ÷ 89 = 4.269 (4.317 is the official wiki walking speed). You are welcome.
@@Luke-jr4pw Length of the tester is 38. Then cross referencing the results from this with results of walk speed and run speed which are constant, with the known speeds from the wiki, the results were very close but for 1 decimal point, so multiplying by 10 corrects for this. As i said for known speeds its accurate to within 0.05 seconds.
I have wanted to get into horse breeding in Minecraft for a while now but wasn’t sure where to begin. This is a real simple redstone contraption. Love it! Is anyone else having the problem where the sticks are going into the hopper minecart regardless of if the rail is powered or not? I’m playing on the Java
I like how this is possible to build before going to the nether, most other designs I've seen requires quarts for comparator or so. But this one I can use to measure the fastest horse to ride around my superflat survival world with to look for black smiths with lava for a nether portal.
I’m getting 28 items as my fastest horse, also in on bedrock, but I think this is intended and a Java only contraption, as I keep seeing their speeds at 40-50 items
Definitely about to make this I love the simplicity of it very easy to follow along without pausing much also that horse dropper was so wild but I know it's necessary to keep the genes strong 😅
I’m a simple man.. I see unique video idea, I click even without seeing the RU-vidr before, I hear a nice beautiful sounding voice I listen and watch. I didn’t know that horses had different speeds from each other or that you could tame them with sugar.. By chance is it similar to some games where if you breed two horses their speed is increased or decreased depending on which parent gives the most genes?
Hello! Right, so horse breeding works as follows in Minecraft: "When breeding two horses, or a horse and a donkey, the foal's stats are determined by averaging both parent's stats with a third set, randomly determined as above (i.e. add both parents' stats with the random value and divide by 3). Random values are used for the third set even when the value is not normally randomized for donkeys." Horses have stats for things like coat color, jump height, and health in addition to speed, and oftentimes when you breed together a horse that has, say, good jump height but low speed, and a horse that has low jump height but high speed, you get a foal that has mediocre stats for both. I've found that I can breed better horses if I focus on a single stat - I'll find two horses that have good speed, and then half of the babies will have a slightly higher speed, and half will have slightly lower. So, basically, it's unlikely that you'll be able to breed a perfect horse with the overall best stats, but you can get an incrementally better one if you focus on one thing.

Wow, a 59 stick horse is really good! I think the fastest possible horse would be around 54 sticks, and the average is around 78, so that's quite lucky!
I could use some help.. i did all of the things in tutorial and it didn't work. I adjusted machine by coments, it still doesn't work. Sticks are falling all the time from the chest and i have no idea what to do next...
You need more delay from the end trip wire hook bc the beginning has an offset of 1 repeater tick. Another way to fix it is just artificially add 4 sticks to your calculations. It will screw with your calculations if you get a horse that can cross it in less than .1 seconds (which you can get in BE through a glitch with speed potions and breeding). Either way, keep it up. Real high quality content.
So that repeater is there because there is a 1 redstone tick delay before the activator rail gets powered again when the redstone block is moved back, so it should be balanced on both sides.
On bedrock 1.20.50 this works with a small modification: extend the 2 redstone lines to go all the way to the pistons (remove the solid block behind each piston) and have 1 repeater on each redstone line.
Im on bedrock so i think the measurements are different, cause the fastest i can get is 26 and rhe slowest i have, which is the same number i got sprinting on foot, is 70
Tried this in the newest version of bedrock on a survival server and i can't seem to get it to work? Items dont leave the chest into the hopper minecart 😢
Wow i cant believe how franken slow my horse was, the horse i was exploring seemed a bit slow so i was like, are there horse speeds? So i found this video and my horse scored a 78, the fourth horse i tested scored a 36 😅
I built this in bedrock and I am getting 31 sticks granted this is a relatively fast horse compared to others I have ridden and it is a wild tamed not bred.... am I doing something wrong?
I also did this in bedrock and I think it's different drop rate for the hopper? I have been getting around 30 sticks for all the horses I'm breeding. I haven't gotten anything under 30 sticks though.
in these comments, I think I see the lowest number for someone in bedrock would be like 28? Just compare with the other horses you breed , the amount of sticks will be relative to your individual lag and version.
Well.. as of July 13th 2024, this does NOT work on bedrock. Lovely video, sad that I wasted my time doing all of this just for the minecart to have a seizure and fly off the track, OR the block of redstone not to function and "reset" unless I do it manually every time. Made sure I did it all correctly and even asked my kid to double check my work. I dont know what went wrong. I dont usually use redstone unless I follow a tutorial to the letter. 🤷♀️😭
dont get me wrong its a great idea but its way easier to get 15 fence gates a pressure plate a single repeater 15 redstone and finally half a stack of dirt blocks i am pretty sure that you can figure out a horse speed testing machine with just these resources on your own even without any instructions there is no need to make it so complicated because if you REALLY need it that precise just go ahead and download a mod for that

I am having the same issue for some reason even though everything is correct and the redstone repeater is in the correct direction it is not activating even though the redstone dust has activated. When I place a red stone torch it activates alongside the dust but without nope just the dust
i altered the design to remove the 2 repeaters, tho works fine the fastest horse was 26 cobble deepslates does it have to be built w them?😭 I'm pocket edition btw

Thanks to your video, yesterday I found a horse in the wild which scored only 47 blocks! Thanks to my luck, the world I found it in was randomly deleted for no apparent reason and it's backup files went with it. Fml
Oh no! That's pretty tragic, but if it's any comfort, at least you can breed better horses in 1.19.4... I have to say, though, that breeding a better horse doesn't match the serendipity of finding a fantastic horse in the wild...
This will work extremely well for me. I love writing stories and building towns/paths in my single player world. Even if I'm already at late game, I still use horses most of the time for aesthetic reasons. And I have SO MANY HORSES. I don't get rid of any horses I tame. If they are slow, I delegate them to a being used as a prop. Sitting in front of a wagon, roaming a farm field, attatched to a house so that it looks like its owned by the houseowners, ect. So needless to say, I've been curious which is my fastest and slowest horse. It might be a little bit before I start building this though, since every functional machine gets covered up and built into something (AKA, I'll probably be building a whole racecourse with stands and stables before I even get to making the speed tester;;) ((This also gave me a good idea, sell at the betting booth a guidebook with the wrong speeds written for the horses. And only give the correctly written book to whomever buildings I designate the horse racing owner's friends and family. . . I have so much work to do now, but worth it!))
I do in mcpe 1.20.41, minecart hopper cant turn off when the rail is turn on.. i try break the red stone block and still not working, is this tutorial for java?
