Minecraft's Mob Votes Suck (A Rant) 

It's a real shame the first mob vote ended with such a disappointing mob. Mojang probably felt the need to give the community a better idea of what they'd be getting since no one liked the phantom, but that led to the exact problems detailed in this video. Mob votes would be so much more exciting if the options were more vague imo

You mentioned how the updates aren’t getting smaller, that the game is just getting bigger, and I agree. However, the community wants more impactful updates, not necessarily larger ones. The cave update, a complete revamp of the caves and terrain, the nether update, bringing purpose to an abandoned dimension, the aquatic update, bringing life to a desolate empty space, and the villager update, bringing much needed love to the humanoids. All of these updates had an impact on the game and the player in a way the more recent updates don’t bother. Sure, the warden is super cool, archeology is nice, and armor trims are literally the definition of drip, but do they really impact Minecraft in the way that the more beloved updates do? No!

mob votes do nothing but make people feel like they are missing out on other cool stuff I mean if you work that hard to flesh out those mobs you might as well go the extra mile and actually code them otherwise a negative reaction from fans is pretty much guaranteed

What happened with the Sniffer, is it was the only one with a clear-cut purpose. The Rascal was said to give you cool items if you found it, but people tunnel-visioned on the iron pickaxe in the teaser and used that as an excuse to call it bad (oh why we we vote for that? All it gives is a stupid iron pickaxe). As for the Tuff Golem, it was basically a walking item frame and had no stated purpose other then being a statue. Meanwhile the SNIFFER has COOL NEW ANCIENT PLANTS? Its an ANCIENT DINOSAUR MOB, and MAYBE WE'LL GET ARCHAEOLOGY??? That kind of thought process is why the sniffer won.

Trails and Tales is smaller and simpler because 1.21 is probably gonna be bigger. Like what they did with 1.15. Also in my opinion the sniffer isn't very forgettable. I also feel like one of the reasons for people voting for it is because of the lore and because the other two actually looked kind of stupid. Also saying that 'modders can add all 3 mobs' is stupid, I don't think I have to explain myself because there are so many videos on this platform explaining how this is a wrong way of looking at things. 1.20 I think was also a pretty good update, the chiseled bookshelves are cool, armour trims got a lot of love and archaeology is very interesting and well done. Camels are also cute and useful, and the update also added 2 new wood types, which is more than most other updates.

I think the reason people are starting to hate minecraft more and more is because they keep adding in quantity over quality updates. They COULD have spent more time to make the glow squids actually light up. They COULD have made sniffers* drop more that TWO seeds (they are actually just textures it cant be that hard). They COULD re-introduce second place winners of previous mobvotes as a fourth addition to new ones, and just not promise all of them are going to be added. They COULD have done another biome vote OR a new vote in general where players can choose a mob or feature the community has been complaining about to fix/rework. They COULD have added more sherds. There COULD have kept the mobvote vague, or gone super specific to reduce infighting, but they did neither and now we have the problems of both sides. They COULD have decided to instead of adding mob after mob after mob, to add more features to existing mobs. Who has ever used phantom membranes to repair an elytra OR brew the potion? used turtle scutes to make the potion OR brew the potion? Its a perfect opportunity to get rid of the armadillo, reduce development time, and just add the wolf armor made from turtle scutes. Mojang is either ignorant or stubborn because no one cares about the cuteness of the animals (only wierdos do) and we just care about the single functionality it has, so just add the functionality from the mob you were going to use and put it on something we already have! end of rant. Honestly I think the trails and tales was a pretty good update for people that didn't actually play exclusively survival. *I also remember sniffer but only because I am angry there are only two plants (one of them is ugly and doesn't even produce light) and that there was a third plant leaked and it wasn't even ever added. Hopefully someone reads this and my thoughts don't just get thrown into a void of nothing. TLDR; Minecraft needs quality not quantity

honestly tails and trails was the most disappointing update in like a decade, and the forget-ability of the sniffer just adds to it. if they really have to stick to the idea of "votes" maybe they should do something like let people vote on a vague concept of the update itself like a year or two ahead of time with little detail given at the time of the vote

I voted on sniffer because i thought that the seeds would sprout into unique plants that could be used in interesting ways but when it released i was very dissapointed that those were just decorations

I can say that Trails and Tales dissapointed me. Armour Trims, Cherry Trees, And all the new Utility Blocks .. I Like! Definitely the outstanding features of the update! Camels and Bamboo Wood are okay, they serve their purpose well but yeah thats about it. The Sniffer and Cherry Biome underwhelmed me. You could have added an exclusive village/structure but you didn't. Thats a really big missed opportunity there. Sniffers could have been the key to some really great plants but we only got 2 which.. isnt bad or anything just... Archeology fucking sucked, such an objective downgrade from the features we were shown at Minecraft live years ago. You piece together these boring-looking pots with boring-looking decals found in a new boring-looking structure. You could have gone ham with the different pot designs and decals, you could have introduced some beautiful new decorative blocks/trophies, hell you could have made some damn beautiful STRUCTURES. But no, we are just left with a feature that shouldn't have really existed in retrospect with no real way to start again unless mojang looks back on it years from now. I really hope this update doesnt dissapoint. They could add in a biome vote biome again or even an end update!. Ive wanted crabs in the game for YEARS at this point and now that its just gonna be in limbo for years as mojang starts their 213th mob vote just pisses me off.

My choice in mob votes was either the most unpopular one or at least the second most wanted one. I wanted moobloom to win, then glare, now penguin.. God dammit

I defiantly agree that the tuff golem and (I already forgot the name of the other) were really forgettable but the sniffer has been was a big thing in everything I saw when it came out (also for a video with only 231 views I’d say it’s good quality and great click bait at the beginning)

Valid points but one thing many people are missing is: Mojang obviously has the capability to add all 3 mobs. It would probably not even take them more than two weeks to do so if they wanted to. They simply don’t want to add so many mobs because it also destroys a part of the games characteristics as it ruins the simplicity of the game also making it more confusing for new players to learn what mobs do. It’s probably best for the game that we don’t get 3 new mobs + some more every year.

I have some reasons right here. 1. It’s blue (the community loves blue mobs) 2. It’s the first useful mob in the history of the mob vote 3. The building community needs it (no questions asked) 4. The other ones are useless. (Seriously, nobody uses their wolves for fighting and we already have ice boats)

Obviously they dont add all mobs because the vote generates hype. That's the point. But with how fleshed out the ideas are, it feels like excluding two mobs, and not adding one. And reminder that they said mobs that lose will NEVER be added. And because of this, when they tie interesting and unique mechanics to these mobs, they are reducing the potential of the game. With this mob vote now, Mojang is telling us two disappointing realities: • Penguins, crabs and armadillos will never coexist in game. This is especially disappointing because they are all real animals. And even worse: • A tool to extend reach, dog armor and faster boats are features that will never coexist in game. We have to pick one, when many would have hoped that Mojang would eventually add all these things. The 2017 mob vote was best. kingbdogz explained why they dont add all 3 mobs since mojang has to code in 2 different coding languages have to make sure it works in every platforms they work 8 hour shifts and when modders add mob vote mobs if its bugged they say its meant to be like that or they make it in 1 version in 1 platform see this is what people dont understand

I want people to understand (as a modder myself) that the reason mods take less time is mostly because of the loaders associated with them, but is also sometimes, because of the ideas, sometimes people take the studio's plans, and add them to the game "early." Yet Alex's mobs REALLY disproves this, this mod has fully fleshed out and original ideas. However, MOJANG on the other hand has to go completely from their source code, they also fix bugs to make Minecraft playable! And they ALSO have to come up with ideas that won't overshadow others. The big reason not very much gets added is because they dont want to bog down the game. If you've ever played a modpack with more than a few mods like the all the mods series you'll notice that most of the time you barely touch the entire pack. most people who play the game don't pour their entire life into the game like youtubers do. the part of the game most people see when they play is exactly what you see in the first couple hours of gameplay. most people dont play the game much longer than that

Idk I actually really liked trails and tails, it’s the first update since 1.16 to properly get me back into playing Minecraft. That’s mainly due to the armour trims which gave me an incentive to explore lots of areas in my long-term world that I hadn’t been to before, such as ancient cities and extra end cities or woodland mansions. I voted for the sniffer and I’m pretty happy with it, it’s a bit rarer than it should be (took me 106 suspicious sand to find 1 egg) but I certainly think it’s far better than the other two options would have been. Overall pretty good video except for the fact chat I’ve seen other vids stating the exact opposite, that being that mob vote concepts should be more specific and refined so that people can be informed. That basically just confirms to me that the MC community is kinda impossible to please regardless of what Mojang does.

They should make it so that after the mob vote the mobs that didn't win go straight to the marketplace

I feel like instead of voting, they should show us either a new biome or a functionality or mob(s) that will be added in the next update. Mods have showed us that there can be a shit tone of content in the game, só ideas for updates won't end soon.

Sniffer was just sad, a big part of the community just wants more plant life! And there's the Sniffer! What do we end up with? Two plants... Silence. And ofcourse we need super hype around a secret unknown name...

i HATE that all the mobs this year are real animals. there are people who have wanted every single one of those animals for years now, but now its locked behind a mob vote and two of them wont be added, at least not for a long time. it'll just hurt more when they lose because people have been wanting them longer

I've just been wanting these buggers in Minecraft for years

gonna be honest i kinda forgot about allays i was a firm supporter of copper golems. Copper doesn’t really have much of a use outside of a few things like spyglasses, lightning rods etc. i loved the idea of the copper golems oxidising and becoming statues, mainly cause i’m building a giant lab project and they would’ve worked perfectly as an element of environmental storytelling. be honest, excluding the first few weeks of its introduction into the game, when have you used or seen ANYONE else use an allay? they are incredibly rare only spawning in woodland mansions and in cages in pillager outposts which only have A CHANCE TO SPAWN and can also have IRON GOLEMS INSTEAD in my personal opinion going through the effort of finding an allay is simply not worth it to me at least but one thing we can all agree on regardless of your opinions on the allay is that the glare kinda sucked

mojang keeps making mob vote's more complex like they could have made an entire document worth of lore behind these worked creatures just for you to only pick one of them. like in 2017 we had an unknown flying creature ,and even bigger blaze, a mob that can be an jumpscare,and a scary version of the squid. its becoming like terraria to me(no hate) doesnt feel "minecrafty" to me atleast.

Armadillo has definitely been limited by its possibilities. In the description for the armadillo in China, it’s confirmed the armor will be like horse armor where you just slap it on an forget. A shame because it would’ve been cool to enchant it. Penguins also seem just as niche as we thought, but still sound like a very interesting mob. They are social and interact with other penguins. Nothing on if they speed up boats on land (does it speed up ice road travel???) The crab had nothing but good news. We now know it both can place AND break blocks from far away. I’m thinking the crab is my choice simply because it’s utility sounds amazing!

i have one big issue with this rant and that is the idea that they're "fully completed" designs. The only design that stayed the same was the sniffer, mojang had no idea how they were going to make the glow squid work, as you can clearly see by how it turned out, same with all other mob vote mobs. Anyone can make a fully complete mob design during recess with their friend cody, the difference is that mojang had to tweak these designs a LOT.

This whole video was made out of complete ignorance. You should really read the 9 tweets that kingbdogz made about why modding is nothing like being a developer, and the process of developing a mob and implementing it is a whole different (and much longer) ball game.

Yeah, I think that the crab is the most useful mobs of the 3. Dog armor is cool, but it's not really that useful and a penguin making your boat faster is pretty much just the dolphin's grace effect, but for a boat.

I get why speed builders would like the grab, but for normal mincraft gamers who casually build its useless maybe a 1 or 2 block length but we would still need to find the right angle to place the blocks, and move around the exact same as before. So even if its 5+ length when Mojang optimize the length for both platforms equally this tool isn't gonna help bedrock players since we probably wont even be able to see the side of the block we wanna place it at lmao

Personally I think there are things that needed updated already, like come on guys. The inventory, progression, ambience, for gods sake even palm trees!!! I feel the same way in that theyre just getting worse and more forgetable, i used to be hyped for minecraft updates but now I just feel like.... meh. it doesn't feel finished.

you're right about all of this, and you know what? They aren't ever going to change. Nothing we say or do will get to them. It feels so useless to talk about how horrible Mojang is at developing this game because this is simply how they are. I can barely stand their flowery marketing, their excited smiles as they discuss their updates AS IF they mean shit to us. They don't know what we really want, they haven't for years, and they expect us to smile along with them and shout over the hilltops "Hooray! This update is magical!" And when we don't, they play pretend and keep going. It absolutely sucks.

Yeah the problem im seeing is Mojang are creating 3 unique game mechanics and ideas and forcing themselves to only add 1. Would be a lot better if they came up with a few concepts, created a few vague mobs to vote on then gave those unique mechanics to the new mobs that win. That way mecahnics like Dog armour/Crab claw wont be removed forever if they dont win

My brain just thinks that 1.12.2 is the last version, 1.13 - 1.16 are mods and later ones don't exist, like I genuinely don't know which version is the latest.

I remember the sniffer.. as it was the only one that didn't only suite things for the fresh player. I don't need a mob to show me light levels. I don't need a mob who was going to bring me tools that I will have outgeared by the time I found one. so the sniffer being the only one that offered something passive like some plants that all be it are useless, they are there if you need them and the sniffers were not spawning in taking CPU cycles and consuming some of the very precious 20 ticks a second to compute. the GlowSquid was the best option to have won. the ink has brought life to signs. this is a use that lasts over time and just is. the allay was a total failure.. they gave the impression that you could go mining and it would collect the drops for you.. and what we got was a mob that was a even more laggy filter that can only do one item at a time, or unstackables... with a use in only VERY few farms.. so pointless that after ilmango made that furnace.. you never heard from them again. The vots are nothing more than a marketing strategy to boost engagement.. nothing more. they get people making vids about them, pushing searches.. and this is good for business.. even if they deliver a polished turd with glitter, its all ok.. There will be another snapshot soon to get people talking and as soon as the game is launched, with all its underwhelming fetures that got worn out in the snapshots and nothing new to be excited about.. there are more next update vids to drive people than there is any real content.. no one is happy with the current game.. they are just happy that there is a new update coming and there are people to fantasise with.. the creativity of what people used to be let out in game has changed to people talking about what they want for the next update.. and when it drops.. oh look whats been talked about... the same day even... the next update. 1.20 dropped and the same hour that it was released.. I saw 4 vids talking about 1.21.... gone is the time where people got the 1.12 update and had to just be happy with it because that was simply just it. you stoped wanting more and just got into what it was that you doing in game.. now it''s mob votes... speculation and what ifs that are driving the market. no more lets plays where people were happy to watch someone build a dirt up for 30 mins.. now even survival/hardcore vids are mostly creative builds slapped in with lightmatica recorded fast and chucked out.. there is no journey anymore..
