Mini Excavator Auger attachment plate.

I C Weld

Hey guys, Well the torch is slowly being passed. My son is taking the lead on this one. He is still a little inexperienced but is making good headway. Todays project consists of making an attachment plate for a mini excavator. The customer is going to use this for attaching a hydraulic run auger motor.
He (customer) will weld the lower eyelet or attachment point. Our job is to weld the ears onto the main plate. I figured it was a good opportunity for my son to practice his stick welding skills since this part will not take too much stress or heavy load.
Also, I've been getting some questions regarding where I got my Welding hood headbands. Here is a link to my buddy's etsy page. Give him a look. They're really comfortable. www.etsy.com/s....
Thanks again for the continued support. Keep warm out there. This is gonna be a cold weekend. 12/22/22. So kick back on your recliner and enjoy .

This video literally made me cry. I remember my dad teaching me, and the hours and hours we spent together. He's gone now, having passed a few years ago. And I still miss him. Every single day. This is the essence of fatherhood on camera here, and it's sorely lacking so often today. My love to you both.

Can not top "that is why they call it stick welding"! I can't count how many times I stuck rod when someone was watching me, or it was a critical last minute repair. That remindes me of myself back in 1966 when I was 17, and learning how ro weld in a shipyard. It is frustrating at first, but after a few pounds of rods, and an old welder skeptic guiding me It didn't take long to become a good welder. Your son is doing just fine. It must be in the genes. LOL

Love the video. Love the father son thing. Have a son who is in training to follow in his old man’s path. Sorry. Had to throw that in. Was pulled over in Oklahoma one night. Told the officer I did not realize I was speeding, following my old man. Oh bad mistake. In the end, he walked up met my dad and when he returned said today’s lesson was greater than any ticket. Hats off to both of you Thank you Isaac, good example for both your son, as well as me in how to handle my welder son.

Well done. As a stick welder myself, I know what your son is going through. The finesse of setting an arc takes practice. Remember, you can always change the angle of your rod after the arc is started. If it's easier to start your arc straight on, then do so. Then, set your angle as soon as the arc starts. I also have to remind myself EVERY time I weld to SLOW DOWN. Great teacher, great student.

When I welded that first time I never thought I would ever get good enough and trusted enough to weld on that type of things. Keep up the good work!

“Stick weld they said, it will be fun they said” 😂😂 I did my very first stick weld attempt in metal shop back in 1977. I remember sticking the first rod and pulling the bench a few feet trying to break free, it also seemed like if you stick one you stick many. I have also never had a weld look as good as Isacs son did, I now know why he has a better teacher. He may not fully know it but what an amazing time they are sharing.
