Hiya, great little hack, I have one of the vintage versions of these and they put a wick up through the coil, so you may want to try that as well. I would be a little worried about the thin aluminium fuel reservoir but thumbs up for building it!
I have made a couple coil stoves but when i make them out of cans i have two problems: first i cant find any copper tubing small enough, and a overheating problem(i think your small lighting tray might fix that). i just use methyl alcohol(heet) and it seems to work well. the sputtering could be that your wick is to tight(needs more space) just a thought. Your work looks nice, good job - Have A Pleasant Day
@TheBeebopper Thanks, you are correct about the jetting. Someone suggested that the pulsation is a symptom of a constriction in the coil (usually caused by carbon build-up). The only thing that may have been causing a restriction in my coil was the wicks. I was lucky enough to be able to fish and pull them out. The stove burns much better.
I could use your help. I have a svea 123,like the first one you showed in this vid. The burner is fubar, and I want to make a coil burner for it. The coil isn't the hard part as much as adapting it to the svea tank will be. I also would want to us two small coils as opposed to one big coil, set a small distance apart,to distribute the heat more. Any ideas how to do this? Help is appreciated. Good job on these stoves by the way
Hi I made a few of those and the problem was that the copper pipe was too close to the top, so I lower the the coil deeper into the container and problem solve, hope this help
@shadowsaidhe Thanks, the wick was causing the problem. It was removed and the stove can be seen burning in another video. For small copper tubing, look for refrigeration tubing. The one I'm using here is from Auto Zone, sold as tubing for oil pressure gauges. Hope thas helps.
@Anon2987 Thanks Anon. The stove in this video was not running very well. You should watch it in one of my other videos after it was repaired. Cutting cans is real easy using household scissors. Plenty of videos on how to.
