SWEET ! ! ! I also have the Ulterra, but haven't YET tried to park my truck and retrieve the boat. I'm embarrassed to say I've owned it for (4) yrs. LOL... The MAIN REASON that I bought it!!!! LOL.
@@jasper03511 o bought it on my new alumicraft and use it everyrime and last weekend tried it in rough weather alone and it did disconnect cause I went too far away. Wasn't a nightmare as wind just blew it in toward shore and launch but when sons with me it works great lol. Just can't go too far away
The new Dakota Boat Retriever makes this process stupid easy as well. No more wet feet, cracked shins climbing, or busted keisters on slick ramps. Plus, lots less $$!
Thanks, the newer setups can use your smartphone as controllers as well. I believe they also made the new controllers rechargeable. After two seasons with the motor I feel that it was a good investment.
He got his wish. The new iPilot remote can be charged from a USB source, of course you need the included, screwed if you lose it, proprietary charging cable. Dont think you can use the either of the two newer rechargeable remotes with the old motors. Rechargeable remotes started in the model year 2017 I think. I don't think your Ulterra is bluetooth equipped which is what you need to pair the next gen remote.
Bought one last fall and have not been out to use it yet. MN spring leaves a lot to be desired this year. I am wondering if you have anything more you can add after using the Ulterra for 6 years now
+YouWrasse IsMine (th3master69) After I posted the video I noticed it was my fault. As I was moving it up to the dock I wasn't paying attention and twisted it to the max. When it is operating in an automatic mode it will take care of it for the most part. Sometimes it does get confused and needs to be spun back around with the remote to clear line twist.
Do you feel that it maneuvers as well (for example around Lilly pads) as the cable steer models such as Fortrex? This seems to be what the bass pros think.
Now that this is "the way" it's going to be done I see people "grabbing there coffee" while other people are sitting in their trucks waiting for the boat that's parked in the way instead of ties to the dock out of the way.
Do you see any other boats around but his? I would be pretty concerned if I pulled up to that dock and that boat was sitting there in my way. Also, the time it took to remotely bring the boat back to the dock I would be on my boat and off to fish. Too many people having to swim for their boats, no thanks man. Save your money!
i have it and it has little sensors that will make it not deploy and stow. Got that fixed and now it will just shut off for no reason. Have to turn head manually and raise and lower til it starts again
It is most likely a 12 volt motor. There are two ways of figuring this out. You can hook it up to one single battery and try to power it on, if it powers on then it is 12 volt, if not then 24 volt is the probable answer. I would however just look up the model in google and see if that model in 48lb is 12 or 24. Do not hook up 24 volts without knowing if it is 24 volts, you may damage the motor and electronics.
Just heard the other day the remotes are going to run off of 3 AAA batteries in 2017, or you will be able to just use your phone with the new app, since the new 2017 models will have bluetooth capability.
+YouWrasse IsMine (th3master69) I thought that was what you were trying to say. I will tell you a funny story, I did this style of launch at a busy boat ramp once. A fella at the dock thought I lost control of my boat and jumped into the water to save it. I told him thanks for the effort and tried not to laugh.
I love to tie my boat up to a dock in windy and rough conditions, especially just from a rope in hand from the trailer. The best part is watching my boat get banged against every single thing around the launch including the shore and the ramp.
Umm why? It saves time if anything. It would take far longer to get off and tie the boat up ECT. As long as they sit the boat out of the way there's no problem
You must have never launched a boat? That's an absolute dumb statement. Take a stopwatch and time people how long it takes people in teaching videos for both, rope attached to trailer launches, and launches where the boat stays clipped to trailer and driven to dock before trailer is removed from water, vs. this method. Remember start your watch when they start backing up the truck until when they board the boat....this is faaaaaar quicker than any other single person launch I can possibly think of. Maybe faster: dumping the boat from the trailer, parking as fast as you can, sprinting back to the shoreline and swimming as fast as you can to board your boat. This method might shave a minute or two off since you don't have to control the boat back to the dock, but I'll sacrifice the minute or two.
i love mine just the going up and down alone is worth the money for me. but the spot lock is great and the remote i don't even have to use my screwed up legs anymore. best $2000 i ever spent
I have the ulterra. I have been tempted to use it the way you have iij. The video. I have read some horror stories that if the remote is to far away from the boat. It will loose connection and your boat floats away. Have you ever been in that situation? Thanks
Thanks a heap for the review and demo dude ! I was toying with the idea of purchasing the riptide model and your vid has made my mind up ! Looks like a real joy to use and I can't wait to get one on the bow of my boat now ! All the best from OZ !
Way to risky, i you lose somehow gps connection and your boat drifts out of reach you will be f*cked! And don`t say that will never happen because it happended to a friend ot mine. Spotlock lost gps connection and the boat drifted away and out of reach while he was parking his car. When he came back the boat was not where he expected and no other boat was around to help him either. Took him hours and hours to get his boat back with aid of some others. Boat was damaged because it drifted to rocks. So as a tip, never ever use this method when no one is around!
Spot lock uses an accelerometer along with the GPS so a loss of GPS will not make it go crazy and travel/drift across the lake. The chances are that he accidentally hit another button on the remote which caused it to stop holding position or he has an electrical issue. You can see in the video that I wait until the boat is holding before I leave. This allows me to drive the boat to the ramp in case the anchor mode fails to work. If you are launching in heavy current or high winds you should use your best judgement before launching like this.
+Jonathan Watts I had a Minn Kota Powerdrive on the boat and the bolt holes did line up well. The Powerdrive I did have was very old so I cannot say that it will work for you. The one thing I didn't like is the directions have you disassemble a portion of the lifting drive and it has you remove two small c-clips, they are easily lost so be carful. Also it is easy to mess up the timing of the lifting assembly, I used tape to mark it's position before I pulled the clips. The hardest part for me was removing the old base bolts and installing the new base bolts because it is hard to access underneath the bow of my boat. I spent probably a total of three hours on the mounting, so it wasn't too bad.
So the batterys only last 4 trips all day outings. The trolling motor looses programming 1 out of every 5 trips out fuck that junk. For that kind of money it should be perfect in every way.Still junk to this day in 2020
