Amazing group of men. My high school principal (in the 90s) was one of them. Funny story: Principal pulled a kid out of class one day and was escorting back to his office. The kid decided to take a swing at the principal... and the principal laid the kid out in the middle of the hall. When the kid regained consciousness and his parents arrived, the dad found out the principal was a marine raider and told his son he got what he deserved for swinging at a marine, and to be glad that's all that happened. The kid got 2 months of detentions and no negative action was taken against the principal.
The Raiders became units like 1/4. Between WWII and the giving of the name to MARSOG there were still Raider companies in the MEUs. Some of which were trained up to test the concept of MARSOG. In the 90’s on such company was Alpha 1/4.
I had the honor and privilege to work alongside MARSOC Marines when I was cross-assigned to 4RECON D. Directly motivated me to put in a packet to go be a SARC HM. Didn't pan out due to getting injured, but they left an impression on me I carry even to this day
