This gives me goosebumps. Not much music does. I heard him play in person when I was a child. He offered me his autograph and I politely refused it! What a stupid child I must have been.
Even with the quality of the video, his violin playing is beautiful and indeed powerful. 😍🎻❤️💕 I grew up watching classical movies so it doesn’t make much of a difference ‘bout the static 😂
wonderful, no famous violinst right now- ------really nobody ----has such a qualitiy in the play. they all play expensive instruments- but they all sound the same. what Elman is doing is really art------------
Gerald Meißner Indeed, sir. Elman himself said it at the end of his days, "In our times, the level of mediocrity has risen." Today, an average violinist probably has better technique than 100 years ago, but of individuality of manner there is none.
Can you explain why you think having a big sound is more important than the players musicality and desired expression? Players now try to play more like the way the composer intended for the music to sound, compared on this recording which was played completely different from the way it was composed. For example when the theme is repeated the first time the music calls for a sub p, forte crescendoing into the next phrase but then suddenly soft. Elman although a very good player did this in his own style. Why is his style better than the composers may I ask?
Dear Mr Calgary Man, maybe I m not right. But I find it s amazing to hear somebody with such a special kind of "sound-colour".It s just a feeling... Interpretation of course is some kind of discipline. But in the the end- if everybody would just try to "draw one line in perfection" the only difference is perfection of reflexes.
Elman is standing with violin completely natural in his dress.. and not like a "todays popstar on violin"who has do do some extra show to persuade- and win the hearts ---THIS is really great--- like a great actor who is playing naturally with his charisma and charming---
@@raoultak A pretty redundant comment, if you are sure there is no real need to voice it :) Of course, everybody has their speech styles but I'm just pointing out a small detail to improve your internet-talk.
Actually while the gentleman was speaking English in quite a refined way I would say he was not English, or British, but somebody who had learned English to a good level.
@@davidrosemont9746 He is an Englishman, a Londoner with a now extinct accent, who is speaking a bit 'posher' than the accent he was brought up with, as many people did on film or radio at the time.
@Dear Mrs Mendy7952 , please dont' make youself ridiculous! writing such a nonsense!! Elman is doing real art and playing better than anybody today! Do you really think you should improve some characteristic and unique playing god of violin?? Today there exist many many players who have a correct technique- but everybody plays the same like a computer! concerts are getting more boring today Please don't answer and think.
