It's really stunning how much fine control you have over the helicopter just using your mouse. I personally have good control over the helicopter, but being able to drag your mouse back to the exact point where you hover without gliding is just insane.
Thanks Man, these tutorials really helped me improve my flying, I think it would be great to expand onto different types of helicopters or maybe even some flight analysis. Keep up the good work!
I first got a Joystick and learned how the inputs work and how to fly decently, then followed this video and learned how to combat landings on keyboard. Don't focus so much on the controls but learn the effect they will have on your heli.
The Hummingbird is such a piece of glass that I'm not sure it should be landed in combat at all. I like it for the really tight landing zones you can use, for example on the roleplay servers. Combat landing is one thing, landing on a narrow Oreokastro street, at night, in the rain, is another. With those servers, you know people are gonna hear you, so you really want to make sure they don't see you. Very difficult to locate just on sound, if you don't know if the heli will just keep flying, or is actually coming down for a landing. Now, if you can do a combat landing, are you going to be able to do a landing on a narrow street? Definitely. The point is just that the precision is more important than those 2 or 3 seconds you shave off, with a combat landing.
The frist landing that you show (with pedaling in) i already know that one by my self with practicing but i do not know the pedal out and i will try this this night and great vid like always!
Could you show us how you have your settings in Arma 3 please? I am an amateur at best. I didn’t know you could fly or try anything in arma 3 to practice. Thanks for the information. 👍
You landings in a normal match and here in the tutorial are looking so easyly and smooth. I'll practis now for three hours and didn't match it one times. I think i didn't have the sesivity for this! ^^
Thanks to made these videos it's a great help for pilots like me their not so good at landing. I saw some of your combat landing gameplay videos. AMAZING! Ofcourse i will continue the trainig to be helpfull as much as possible to the team i'm in. Oh and I play on the EU servers of the same host as you in your videos. Most likely at EU#1. I hope to meet you sometimes at one of teir servers. ^^
When you do the landings in the first section, are you using pedals in the opposite direction that you turn in? Like if you're banking right do you use left pedal?
just to let you all know, it is different with the main little bird that every server uses now. you cant rapidly roll twice anymore and such. so dont train with the old little bird :)
What graphics settings do you use? In the editor I can do that stuff too but on a full koth server I just don't have the fps to do it savely. (by PC is pretty decent)
Tchello Silveira the controls are specific to you, the main thing to do is get a control format that is comfortable for you and watching his controls to learn the actual inputs he’s making, not the specific key presses. I use Shift,Ctrl for collective and wasd for my cyclic and q e for pedals. And also learning and getting used to your controls take awhile, I’ve engrained my controls in my muscle memory to the point I can get on ARMA and fly nearly aswell as I did before, and I haven’t played for 7 months.
How do you get your mouse to be set for steering, i lost the capability to change the settings for this during the eden update, i got to know how you enable it!!
So how do you know what a good place to land is? I can pull the landings off relatively well but sometimes me and/or my passengers get mowed down by a madman with a navid or something. Is it just down to luck?
Near the end of this video I talk about emergent landing zones - really you just let landings happen and fine tune your movements to choose your LZ based on how fast and what direction you are descending... fly adaptively while committing to the landing
I'd like to see all of that done with the P0-30 Orca. I have less than 80 hours on Arma so, I know that I still have some practice ahead of me. I play on the Olympus Life servers and mostly do drug runs with my friends but, just like with King Of The Hill servers, everyone wants to kill each other so, coming in as hot as possible and leaving asap is my task to lower the risk of dying. Since we drug run with about 5 people and/or need helicopter storage for the drugs, I have to fly the P0-30 Orca, which is no cake walk to maneuver. Could you make a tutorial on techniques for it?
xELITExMODAx actually it is very maneuverable, I think it's actually the 2nd most agile helicopter. The main thing is remembering your main and tail rotor clearance and that the orca is going to be heavier than the mh-9.
Misconduct, im playing koth on hostiletakover servers. any chance you show up there sometimes? im in ru regin so most of other servers have 300+ ping. i would like to see things that you do live
I’m starting to hate being a pilot all I do is practice for hours the. Play online and get yelled at for either landing slow or not being ten feet from the ao. Then when I do land close like they wanted they die then blame me. Wtf should I do
Fuck them. You are the pilot. Now of course if you are doing dumb stuff thats another issue, but I dont think it is since you say you practice. Just got back into arma recently and trying to get better at flying a helo myself.
How do you shove players out of your chopper? I'm aware there is a command from the scroll wheel you select, but often its only at the beginning of the flight. When i'm dropping players at an LZ its not on the scroll wheel visible. Help!!!
I get it pretty often, and i fly with joystick, 1PP, and I THINK this might allow it to be used. When you are dusting off from spawn, and its the spam in the middle of you9r screen ignore it until it disappears, once you're OTG, the context menu should reappear, and a quick tap of space will be all you need. It seems random other than that, but to hell with getting shot for an afk freeloader lmao.
It depends on the type or aircraft your flying, along with the type of approach your making, along with your airspeed, and altitude when you enter the maneuver. As you can guess Pilot skill will play a great deal in making the decision when you begin your maneuver, and when to transition through the different phases of the maneuver. A straight in approach has no base turn. A 360 degree approach is basically all base turn (When done correctly your just turning and descending until you land at your intended point). Their are 4 basic types of landing approaches in a helicopter: A straight in approach (As the name says you make this approach on a straight in path), a 90° approach (as the name suggests you make a 90° turn as your base leg to this approach), a 180° approach (You overfly the LZ before making a 180° turn back to land), and a 360° approach (You fly over the LZ and turn left or right while descending and bleeding airspeed until you are back at the position you entered the maneuver). All landings when done properly are no different than an Autorotation (engine off, or pitch removed completely, or at a state that allows for a constant controlled decent). When done correct the pilot can be shot out of the helicopter, and it will continue its path, and land on the ground without blowing up or killing everyone on board (This is how you know you have a good pilot, if they get killed and you don't die, fly with them again). I hope this information helps. - Noblezim711
sometimes dont be afraid to do a flyover and try to look around your intended LZ. If you see tracers and explosions, its probably a no-go (unless youre looking for a challenge lol ;)
i have spent nearly 30 hours practicing the balanced state and I still cannot stop my heli from crashing when I try to land, no clue what I am doing wrong
Damn pressing Z as "Throttle Down" Sucks. When I was learning how to fly (and Im pretty good at it) Ive changed binds so: Q,E - Roll A,D - Rudders / Yaw W,S - Pitch Shift - Throttle Up Ctrl - Throttle Down
I myself have this because im used to it from BF3 like 6 years ago when it came out: (I got Azerty keyboard) Q/D - roll A/E - yaw Z + mouse down - Pitch UP W + Mouse up - Pitch down Shift - Throttle up Ctrl - Throttle down
I think you should take the footage you get from playing in king of the hill and analyze the landings both successful and failed to emphasize the trade offs that occur in the heat of fire (i.e distance from estimated LZ) and what you have done right or wrong in a landing. I suggest this because i feel people like me will practice this religiously in an Eden scenario like you've done here but will join a KOTH server and screw up my landing because I'm getting shot at.
Good idea! I could certainly use the extra footage I have from previous tutorial attempts, won't be hard to get some fails to analyze either. In terms of getting shot at, I try to think about the game as a whole, so if you get shot you die and try again meaning: if the current landing might not work out, plan for your landing regardless of incoming fire (always landing as fast as possible) and finish it emergently (observing the available landing paths as they appear and react towards the better one). Hope that made sense.
Open up your map, go to location you want to place a marker, then its either shift+mouse button, or Ctrl+mouse button, and there'll be a marker placed. Then when you exit the map, that marker should show up in play mode......
Z is Collective Lower and shift is COllective raise, increase speed or not, u hold collective raise cuz i wanna go fast as u can to be unpredictable, Z makes u go slower and decreasing altitude
Also I’m not sure if you still have to do this, but also do it for your character cause you will still get damaged(possibly changed - haven’t played for 6 months)
See how good you are flying into DESIGNATED landing areas...rather than choosing the best place to land based on whenever your little aerobatic show ends...anyone can do that but can you do it to a specific point, over and over again? I think not.
misconduct plays king of the hill. infantrymen are always moving around the map in KOTH no pilot can grab 1 lz and stick to it the entire game. its nearly impossible shitter
ARMA 3’s basic flight model is more catered for keyboard & mouse, and is too crude to effectively use HOTAS in many situations especially if you have to quickly swap from flight to infantry gameplay. During milsim and non-KOTH style gameplay if you can use the advanced flight model and learn to use it, HOTAS is most definitely the way to go.
@@PMCJohn sure but i dnt wanna switch, i wld just fly if I fly, it s a videogame but is a heavy simulation one, not like a hero jack of all trades. It s sad that fast landing and cool piloting is shown by great players only with mouse and kb... too easy and out of the sim. I dnt like ppl breaking the sim just as developers breaking the sim.
