Join us for our Erev Shabbat service We will be going through the weekly teachings from Monte Judah. This portion is referred to as the "Epitome of the Torah." Moses goes up the mountain to receive and record a series of laws for the people of Israel from God. These ordinances address issues such as personal injury, restitution, retribution, morality, witchcraft, widows and orphans, loans and pledges, slander and false accusations, dealing with strangers, Sabbath, and the annual pilgrimage feasts. God also explains how the Angel of the Lord will lead them and how He will deliver the people of Israel to the Promised Land, and warns them against assuming the pagan ways of the current inhabitants. The people of Israel once again proclaim that they will do all that God commands them to do. Leaving Aaron and Hur in charge of the camp, Moses ascends Mount Sinai and remains there for forty days and forty nights to receive the Torah from God.
