Para mi gusto personal, las más bellas fueron Miss Venezuela y Miss Brasil. Irene tuvo una actitud ganadora y una belleza clásica; Miss Brasil, Adriana, era igual bellisima y tenía una estampa más jovial. Me gustó ese Miss Universo. Para meu gosto pessoal, as mais belas eram a Miss Venezuela e a Miss Brasil. Irene teve uma atitude ganhadora, muito calma, muito altiva, e uma beleza clássica. A Miss Brasil, Adriana, era igualmente bela e tinha um aspecto mais jovial. Era uma das favoritas do público de Nova York naquele ano, sempre recebia muitas palmas quando entrava na passarela. Eu gostei daquele Miss Universo.
At final question Brazil answered spontaneously, a fast and smart answer. That's what the host BB explained before asking them five, and that is what MU was looking for. The winner's first response was incorrect, then it was more elaborated. However Miss Vnzla was very beautiful and charming.

Ese año 1981, ganó Irene el miss Universo y Pilin León el miss Mundo , un momento mágico que se repitió tiempo después con Alicia Machado cuando gana el miss universo y Yackelin Aguilera el miss Mundo el mismo año. Venezuela es única.
Este año hubo mucha belleza, similar a 1983, la ganadora hermosa e imponente. Destaco el rostrazo de Brasil, una mujer muy atractiva, muy linda también Canadá con su look fuera de lo común, Bélgica con su estilo fresco y natural y Suecia con su radiante sonrisa.
Someone please explain to me how Miss Belgium and Miss Venezuela ended up with the same composite score at this point, 8.959? I went back to the Interview, Swimsuit and Evening Gown segments and Miss Venezuela won each category. How or where did Miss Belgium get extra points?
Miss Brazil should have won, she answered correctly. Ms. Sweden was rehearsed.Misses Canada, Venezuela were given chances by Bob Barker to redeem themselves for they could not give an exact answer.Ms. Belgium's anwer to travel around the world was also correct but she was confused and distracted by Bob.
En realidad, aunque Irene empezó mal la respuesta....al final respondió muy bien y con una calma impresionante!...eso la hizo ganadora, a pesar de todo el maquillaje que llevaba, el que no era necesario en ella.
Que categoria e elegância da Miss Venezuela descendo as escadas e carregando o vestido brilhantemente !!!! Saudades desses tempos onde as misses tinham outra postura e , se preocupavam com detalhes que hoje em dia se perderam no tempo por conta da sociedade consumista e da propria educação familiar , que infelizmente prega que é melhor ter do que ser e isto nos leva cada vez mais próximos do caos social . Pensem nisso ...
Reina desde principio saben q su madre cuando se estaba murindeo le dijo que tu vas a ser una reina. Y lo ha sido y es muy humilde siéndolo. Y no soy de 🇻🇪 . Americano sin padres venezolanos pero la adoro.
Irene siempre fue una mujer de extraordinaria belleza, al final del concurso, cuando le tocaba salir la maquillaron mal , ella se lavó la cara y con un labial se maquilló ella misma . Es una mujer súper natural. Es impresionante mirarla de cerca , los que la han visto quedan impactados por tanta belleza.
Well I think Brasil gave the best answer of them five. It was a wish for HER and she said she wanted that year hapiness overall for her. She didn't say she wants peace, or meet others or to fix the world. MU didn't want a speech or an elaborated answer, just a plain and simple answer, regardless if it sounded selfish.👍
It was a relatively easy question and yet non of the Top 5 could answer it. Belgium's answer ( or rather no answer ) is the worst in history of Miss Universe. She would have won had she gave even a mediocre answer as she was the most beautiful among the 5 finalists.
Yeah....I liked Miss Belgium ... I noticed that all the stages she was in second place in the notes and there was a moment that she tied with Irene .... but if she had managed to answer the final question, she would certainly have a better placement...
Bueno, más que saber lo que se les va a preguntar muchas candidatas (sobre todo las americanas) tienen preparadas unas respuestas-comodines que pueden valer para cualquier pregunta por muy complicada que sea. Pero es verdad que en ese año 1981 la pregunta secreta las pilló desprevenidas a las cinco finalistas...
si, contesto...con alguna dificultad pero si lo hizo ....su única competencia fue la Srita de Canadá, por eso llegaron ellas dos a la final.. ah, y no soy venzolana.
Ya entiendo porque ganó Irene, aparte de su belleza despampanante, fue la que contestó con mas tranquilidad, puesto que las demas se pusieron muy nerviosas, aunque la respuesta de Irene no fue tan espectacular pero logró mantenerse tranquila. Comparando las preguntas de antes con las de ahora, las de antes iban en coche jajajaa....esas preguntas eran muy simples.
My favorites were Misses Venezuela and Brazil. They were the most beautiful among TOP 05. Miss Brazil had a very beautiful evening gown but the evening gown of Miss Venezuela was very ugly.

Miss Canadá como q era favorita , porq la aplaudían mucho, sin embargo, Irene es la más bella de todas . Los nervios atacaron a Miss Bélgica, lastima, una chica muy linda.

The deciding factor was based on the final question because it was impossible. Their answers were not convincing enough. The final result was based on the composite total score and poise under pressure.
@newreligion13 Como tu bien lo dices, fue considerada debido a una crisis y por que era la reina en curso. Y todo lo segundo, también lo sé, pero yo estoy hablando del momento del concurso, y no de la vida posterior de cada una. Eso es un cuento aparte.
@nurula007 I feel that the question is fine. However, I think the beauty contestants are over-trained in model answers like world peace that they cannot give a personal truthful answer. All of them want to be Miss Universe!

@newreligion13 Ok. Te encuentro razon en que los tiempos no eran los mismos, aunque creo que estas 5 de verdad estaban por debajo del promedio de la época. Y entiendo también que seas venezolano y por eso la defiendas tanto, pero te comento (y no es cosa mía), que segun la misma organizacion, incluso Barbara Palacios y Dayana Mendoza estan mucho mejor consideradas y evaluadas. A resposta de Adriana Oliveira foi fraquíssima e limitou-se a desejos pessoais sem ser pertinente num momento máximo de definição de notas. Creio que isso tenha dado os números finais a ela. Infelizmente.

The worst set of answers in a Miss Universe pageant ever! Don't know if the question was challenging or confusing (it really wasn't!) but not one of those ladies was able to answer it from the get go. BTW, Miss Venezuela's translator did stress from the very beginning that it was about a personal fulfillment, so she screwed up as well by answering with the old standard "world peace" crap. But she got the benefit of the doubt because most judges did not speak Spanish.
